The Keene Public Library was one of the first, if not the first, public libraries in the country. But it is very forward-looking, as shown by the successful visit today of the Internet Bookmobile.

Gail Zachariah, head of Youth and Community Services at the library, staged a busy end-of-summer event for the children's summer reading program. We were able to tag along by setting the Bookmobile up outside. We printed and gave away lots of "Tale of Peter Rabbit," "SQUINTY the Comical Pig," and "Dog of Flanders," "Baseball ABC," as well as a few Nathaniel Hawthorne in New Hampshire books. There was a short shower but we were able to pack up in time and emerge a few minutes later. No time to take a picture though.

was it fun? Did a lot of people ask questions about the bookmobile?

Yes. A group of teenage girls wanted me to show them how to download books. But the Bookmobile was parked in between two buildings and I couldn't get a signal. The libraries I've been to have shade trees blocking the view to the SW so I have to download the books and print them out in advance. No problem, but it's not as showy.
