Spare Room Makeover

Greetings!
This small room used to be our little guy's until he turned 10 in 2017.  He moved over into the front bedroom which is a lot larger.  Meanwhile, this room became a storage space for many months.

Russian River Dacha

Since our son is getting older, his many school and weekend programs were making it almost impossible to visit our Russian River Dacha.  I have missed its layered rustic ambiance so  I came up with the idea to turn the old baby room into a "Dacha" inspired space.

I painted the entire room, including the ceiling and wood work, red.  Then I fill the walls with artwork.  Many of the oil paintings were done by Papa Dan's grandmother, Alva Chioffi.  Oil painting was a great passion of hers.  Other paintings were from antique and flea market shopping that I had stored in the basement for many years.

Initially, I wanted to a few floor to ceiling bookcases to give the room that Library or Gentlemen's club atmosphere.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find a carpenter available (in our budget). I was obsessed about enjoying the room by Christmas so I moved on from the bookcase plan to layer the wall with art..

The artwork used to hang in our living and dining room until I changed those rooms and they wound up in the basement.  It was great to be able to bring them out again.

I purchased the 6 foot red sofa sleeper  from a local seller who advertised on FaceBook's Marketplace.  By the way, that platform has lots of great finds and can be addictive so proceed with caution.

Aside from getting bookcases installed, the other next step is to have a pair of sconces installed above the sofa and rope lights on the existing ceiling shelf.  Again, unable to get an electrician(at an affordable rate) at this time so will have to wait until after the holidays.

I love the look and feel of the room.  It really does help give me my "Dacha" fix.  Now, when I'm longing for some warmth and drama, I simply head into the red room.
