When I had the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world this summer as SWISSGEAR’s Travel Ambassador, I chose to visit Malta! To hear all about my trip, head over to SWISSGEAR.com to read about my adventures in Malta!
When I told people I was traveling to Malta, many people wondered where Malta was and why I would choose to go there over any other destination. I believe my photos and stories served as enough of an explanation after my trip, but I also compiled a blog on 10 reasons to visit Malta!
Once you are convinced you must head to Malta for a trip of your own, I’ve compiled a list of 10 recommended things to see and do during your stay! All of these locations can be reached by public transportation (bus) and the things to do are FREE, with the exception of the final recommendation.
1. Valletta
What to do: Wander the charming streets of the UNESCO heritage site capital of Malta, toss a coin in the Triton Fountain, eat lunch at No. 43. Visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens for a panoramic view of the Grand Harbour (where two cruise ships were docked) and the Three Cities across the water.
2. St. Peter’s Pool
What to do: Jump in St. Peter’s Pool! Swim, snorkel, people watch! Watch the famous jumping dog dive into the pool and Pele’s artful dives. Don’t miss the little pools and salt pans past the pool.
3. Mdina
What to do: Wander around the “Silent City,” enjoy the charming little streets and beautiful flower door, eat cake and drink milkshakes at Fontanella Tea Garden while enjoying the view.
4. Rabat
What to do: Enjoy the colorful doors and charming streets. Visit St. Dominic’s Convent.
5. Bugibba
What to do: Swim in the sea, watch the sunset and party at Cafe del Mar! Eat the “Taste of Malta” menu at Ta’Pawla (15.90 Euro for a three-course meal) and the best gelato in Malta at SottoZero.
6. Ramla Bay & Tal-Mixta Cave (Gozo)
What to do: Climb up to Tal-Mixta Cave and enjoy the views in the shade of the cave. Lay on the red sand beach and swim in the sea.
7. San Blas Bay (Gozo)
What to do: Lay on the red sand beach or rocks and swim in the sea. Be mindful there is a steep walk down to the beach, but you can also hop into a 4-wheeler for a small fee.
8. Nadur (Gozo)
What to do: Explore the charming town of Nadur and cathedral, eat at The Fat Rabbit. We stayed in Nadur during our time on the island of Gozo, at an Airbnb with an amazing rooftop view. Get $35 off your first Airbnb with my referral link!
9. Malsaforn Bay (Gozo)
What to do: Stroll along the bay, people watch, enjoy a drink or meal on the bay. Walk to the salt pans nearby to enjoy the view (especially at sunset).
10. Blue Lagoon (Comino)
What to do: Kayak to the Blue Lagoon, snorkel, cliff jump, explore caves and underwater archways!
If I had more time in Malta (I only spent a week there), I would also visit the Blue Grotto, the Blue Hole, Dingli Ciffs (at sunset), the Megalithic Temples (oldest standing structures in the world), and Wied il-Għasri (Gozo). You always have to leave something to do for when you return, right? 😉
