Justin Lo - Next Time, No Next Time

Long time no see, Casual TVB readers! I am resurfacing just in time to say goodbye to 2022 and welcome 2023.

Before we bid farewell to 2022, I wanted to share a song that deeply touched me in 2022. It is Justin Lo's "Next Time, No Next Time" (下次無下次).  The song was originally released in 2015 in his Never Odd or Even album. I didn't pay much attention to this song before, but when Justin sang it at his Fresh Start concert in Atlantic City earlier this year, he told the audience to pay special attention to the lyrics.

The lyrics describes someone living a mundane, unsatisfying life.  They open the newspaper and learn about people whose lives are ended suddenly - from disease, from war, from disasters. Their last words are written hastily on scrap paper.  The song makes you realize that even if you are not completely satisfied with your life, take a moment to count your blessings.  The song is especially meaningful in a year when disease and war affected so many.  Live each day to its fullest because you don't know if there will be a next time.

Wishing everyone a happy 2023!

Miriam Yeung @ Atlantic City

Last week, I took a break from Wonder Women to see Miriam Yeung in person! She performed in Atlantic City on her My Beautiful Live world tour.

This is the second time I've watched a Miriam concert. Last time, I saw her in Hong Kong and she sang many side tracks. This time, she stuck to the classics. One thing I've noticed from her two concerts is that she does not spend a lot of time talking. Instead, she prefers to sing song after song, to fit in as many songs as possible for her fans.

Miriam Yeung - One Two Three, Three Two One

Miriam Yeung released her new song, entitled "One Two Three, Three Two One" (一二三,三二一).

This song embodies the theme of Miriam's 3,2,1 Go! concert. Life begins counting down from the moment you are born. You never know how much time you have left, but you can choose how to spend the time that you have. Even as life is counting down, you should never stop pursuing the things that are important to you. That way, when you look back on your life, you can say that you had a worthwhile journey.

I went to see Miriam's concert in Hong Kong in December. It was thrilling to finally get to see my favourite singer live in concert! Here are just some of the pictures I took:

Presidential Candidates 2016

Instead of TVB stars, I have been tracking down the 2016 presidential candidates.

#ImWithHer

I saw Hillary Clinton back in February when she held a rally in Boston. The theme of her speech was breaking down barriers in America, a contrast to Donald Trump's promise to build a wall. Of course, she talked about how electing the first female President would break down one of the greatest barriers. Her speech was more substantive, with specific details on how to achieve her policy goals rather just ideals.

#MakeAmericaGreatAgain

I saw Donald Trump at a rally in Washington DC. He gave a short speech which was clearly not pre-written. He just said whatever came to his mind. He focused on the military and veterans since it was the Memorial Day weekend. The one thing I was impressed with was his punctuality. The event was scheduled to start at 2 pm and he arrived on time, unlike the other two candidates who arrived hours late.

#FeelTheBern

I completed my "stamp collection" with a Bernie Sanders rally in DC. Since Hillary had already clinched the nomination, I was wondering if he would be dropping out of the race. He didn't drop out, but it seemed like he knew the end was looming. He reflected on how his campaign exceeded all expectations and urged his supporters to continue the revolution that they started. He talked about all the inequalities in America today.

Jeb!

Another addition to my presidential candidates collection, even though Jeb Bush dropped out of the race a long time ago. He was delivering a lecture at the Harvard Kennedy School about education reform. The crowd gave him a loud round of applause when he entered the room. He offered some good ideas to improve education in America. It left me wondering about what kind of debate we would have had if it was Jeb running against Hillary.

Wong Cho Lam and Leanne Li @ Toronto

Wong Cho Lam and Leanne Li were in Toronto for their <老表你信主未? 音樂生命分享會> tour. I was able to see them on two consecutive nights.

On the first night, I was seated quite far from the stage, so I didn't get that many good pictures.

On the second night, I had a much better vantage point.

The songs they sang (from both nights):

Cho Lam singing Eason Chan's "浮誇" (Exaggerated).

Cho Lam singing the gospel song "耶和華是我牧者" (Jehovah is My Shepherd).

Cho Lam and Leanne's duet of a Mandarin song.

Leanne sings "最重要的決定" (Most Important Decision).

They share the stage as Cho Lam performs "主.婚.人" (Lord, Marriage, Man).

Michelle Yim @ Toronto

Michelle Yim was in Toronto earlier for a Chinese New Year countdown event. Joe Tay was also at the event. What a great way to start the new year by meeting some TVB stars!

Wynners @ Toronto

The Wynners are in Toronto for a charity concert in support of World Vision. They were a popular band during the 1970s, which is way before my time, but I went to their autograph session anyways (because of my mom). There were a lot of older fans, but they were just as enthusiastic to meet the stars as some of the younger fans that I've seen at other autograph sessions.

Band members (from left to right in the first picture): Anthony Chan, Alan Tam, Bennett Pang, Kenny Bee and Danny Yip.
