My Mum is a weaver...

Mum weaves rag rugs.  And she does it really well.  She made this Pendleton wool beauty for us for Christmas.  Of course it is far to gorgeous to go on the floor so I will lay it across the top of the couch once the Christmas rag rug is put away.  Oh my word.  Soft, muted but with that wonderful soft red. Thanks, Mum!  Maybe I will just wear it!

Mum also brought me a grey and yellow rug.  It matches my sewing room perfectly... except for the 70s flooring.  You can tell it is my sewing room because of the piles of fabric and that lovely cone of Aurifil on the counter.  We have rugs from Mum allover the house.  You can see the progression from simple stripes to these complicated patterns.  Clever Mum.

Clever Mum...

I have a clever Mum.  This goes without saying.  She is a very talented weaver and she wove me an amazing scarf for Christmas.  It is beyond fabulous.  It is rayon chenille and bamboo of all things.  Each little fringe has been painstakingly braided.  OMG!  I love the grey stripes.  So classy!  It feels amazing around my neck and  is just the right length for me to double and loop.  Oh, I just am so spoiled.  Thanks, Mum.  I love it.  I wish we had touch-a-vision.  I wore it the other night when the buds and I went to see Les Miserables (what a movie!!!!!) and my scarf got much attention.  And did I say we really enjoyed the movie???

And speaking of spoiled.  Mum also gave me milk glass candle holders for Christmas.  Feeding my milk glass habit she is.  Aren't they awesome????

Off to finish the binding on the Another Star quilt... I know, how exciting is that?  Another wip bites the dust!

Putting Mum to Work!

Mum is here for a visit.  She came to the guild meeting with me last night.  It was great!  We had the very talented guest speaker, Sonja who blogs at Artisania and is an off the charts talented paper pieced pattern maker.  Check out her blog!  She has free patterns.  Gotta love that!  I have signed up for a workshop with her in September.  Happy dance!

And look at how I put Mum to work!  Not only is she an awesome blueberry picker but look!  She is busy tracing all the letters for my Proverbial quilt onto freezer paper!  This has saved me a ton of time.  I was busy sewing away while she was busy tracing.  Oh.  And talking to herself.  Yep!  But I won't tell. You go, Mum!

I love this dahlia.  It is called Wheels.  Just so you know.  Happy Friday!

Happy Birthday Mum!

Think of these as lovely flowers as birthday candles!  I don't think that there are enough (tee hee)

My Mum is one special lady and she is celebrating her birthday today!  I won't tell you how old she is but I bet she wouldn't mind if I shared her age because I think she is proud of each and every one of those years.  So big giant hugs.  Much love and happy wishes to my very best mum.

Mum received the blue beast for her birthday.  Her early birthday present.

Tuesday in the rain!!!!

Oh Man!  It is really raining today.  I have to go back to school in a jiffy for parent-teacher conferences but I wanted to take a minute to share what Mum was up to, while I was quilting this weekend.  She doesn't just sit around.  Nope.  Not my Mum.  She is all about the have loom will travel idea.

Here she is weaving away on her Inkle loom.  I think that is how it is spelled.  She is cranking out some bookmarks for her weaving guild.  Something about give aways for a big gathering.

I was sharing my big table with her.  And before she started the bookmarks, she finished this length that will make a perfect handle for a bag from fabric that I picked up at the thrift store the other weekend.  She is just too darned clever.  Perfect colour match or what?  Now I just have to make the bag!
