Summer fun
EEP! Milk glass! I just returned from a road trip to Alberta to visit our daughter and our son-in-law. They understand my obsession with milk glass and picked this set up for me a month or so ago. Oh my goodness. So awesome!
I have lots of pictures of my trip and will get those organized soonish but how about a vintage sheet? I found this one with mum last week. It is in excellent shape and really vibrant. And I think it was only $2. Thrift store score!
And don't these awesome socks look great on the sheet? Our neighbour's mom knit these for me and a pair for Husband. His are much more sedate. Love them!
Even in the land of big trucks and wild animals, daughter and I found a great little quilt shop. She loves to pick out fabric for me to buy. There was a sale and the fat quarters were $2. ANd I found a great black and white print.
And this beauty at another quilt shop on my way home!

Works in Progress...
I started doing something with the MQG Michael Miller Cotton Couture challenge bundle. I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the bundle but it was a selection of muted pastels. Lovely but not my palette. I ordered some brighter fabrics and finally took the plunge. And this is what happened. A whole lot of little blocks. It will be a baby quilt. Nothing too innovative for sure but there it is.
I also started a Christmas gift and this is a sneak peak. With a monogram on Kraft-Tex no less. And if you look closely you can see a golden retriever hair in the centre of the photograph. Good grief. What a fur ball!
A new thrift store opened up in our town last week. I went in for a peak and left with 2 hats for my costume box, a bag of buttons all in pinks and some perle cotton. The pink buttons were awesome with lots of vintage lovely including the buckle and some wonderful pink glass buttons. Thank you, thrift shop.
And I picked up this amazing calender at the local book shop. Seriously. Weeks and Ringle and it comes with all the patterns. Squeal! Perfect for my sewing room.
Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for Work in Progress Wednesday. Have a super rest of your day!

Some Thrifty Finds...
MMMM, milk glass. Picked this up at the thrift store for a modest $2.99. It was seriously grubby but a good scrub in some sudsy hot water set it right. It looks so nice on this mossy log in the big woods. And I now have a matching pair of these milk glass candy dishes. Nice!
I also found a great set of vintage sheets and a pillowcase in good shape. People sometimes wonder how you tell if a sheet is vintage. It has to have the vintage vibe. Like this set. Crazy, bright florals and then the label will look vintage and will often state "percale". Yep. Vintage. I don't usually buy the bottom sheet but in this case the bottom was in pretty good shape and the store was selling the sheets as a set. I guess they are wise to those of us who typically leave the bottom sheet behind.
Have a lovely rest of your Saturday!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day! Yesterday we actually went to a Church Garage Sale. They are the best! I picked up 3 vintage aprons for 50 cents each! Seriously! How much fun are they blowing on the barn wall? Can you see that the yellow gingham one has smocking? The seamstress even smocked the rick rack around the hem. Very fancy! Husband bought a giant pussy willow tree for $3 and we laughed about the Lily of the Valley plants that had been potted up individually and were for sale. I look out the front window at the Lily of the Valley taking over our universe! I have to get out there and attack them with the shovel and the wheelbarrow.
Have a super Mother's Day. I am actually going to get some sewing done today.

Look at them all!
My Mum and I went out to visit the biggest "junk" collection we have ever visited. It's on an old dairy farm out in the country not far from our wee farm. It's called Granny and Grumpa's and there is building after building full of stuff. Unbelievable quantities of stuff. These photos were of all the mini and toy sewing machines. Would you look at them all!? The funny thing was that even if I wanted to buy one of these little babies, we never did see anyone that might want to sell one to me. But we were escorted around the barns and buildings by a very friendly orange cat.
Thanks Carla for reminding me about this place and you will have to check it out for yourself because my description will just never do it justice. You have to see it. Really! Which little machine would you take home?

Eeek! Blogger has a new format!!!!
Eeek! Blogger has been offering up a new interface but I most politely declined by ignoring the nice little invitation showing up on the dashboard. And then Blogger became most devious last evening by forcing the new interface upon me. Good grief! It certainly looks pretty and up to date and fancy and all that but where the heck is the new post button! Eeek! I found it. I will just have to cowgirl up and get used to it!
Husband and I were out and about this morning but thrift stores were more or less a bust. I even overheard the worker bees saying that they had no new stock in the back. They were tossing around ideas on how to entice more donations. Come on people! Clean out your unwanted crappola! I did, however, find two lovely vintage sheets but I have not yet taken any photos of them. I think they will both come in handy as potential quilt backs.
And finally, I did want to show you what happens when Aurifil thread grows up. The big cone is HUMONGOUS and I am so happy to have such a GIANT cone of lovely white thread!!!!! The spool on the right is the 1500 metre spool. You know, the one I used to think was a large spool of Aurifil.
Happy March 31st!

Flea Market Finds with Mum!
Mum's shabby chic stool=$5 |
Mum and I spent an awesome morning at her famous Kiwanis Market, several garage sales and some thrift stores. It was a morning guaranteed to have driven Husband around the bend sideways but Mum and I had a blast. We even punctuated all the thrifting with a stop at a fabulous gelato place. Oh my goodness. It was heavenly. It is located in an old church of all things and the gelato and coffee were so good that they should be illegal. Even the washroom was to die for. Yes, I am serious.
I have added a selection of our finds. And this is a mixture of Mum stuff and my stuff. Feast your eyes!

Goodness Gracious Flea Market Fancy!!!
Husband and I were on a quest this afternoon chasing Daughter's birthday gift. On our way, I needed to drop off a bunch of leftover lost and found from school at a thrift store. Hmm. Opportunity arises! I suggested to Husband that I might like to run in and check for vintage sheets. We were several towns over and at an unfamiliar thrift store. In I went and not only did I totally score in the vintage sheet and pillowcase area but look at the pillowcase that was just waiting for me. It looks like it has never been used and it has been lovingly made with Flea Market Fancy!!!!!! Yep! OMG! My second Flea Market Fancy thrift store score! My first was way back when. I will be spending this evening unpicking the seams and rescuing this lovely fabric from the fairly atrocious orange that it is attached to.
I will pick a giveaway winner later this evening!

Flea Market Finds on a Sunday
We went over to visit my Aunty for her birthday. We gave her the pillow I made the other day for her birthday gift and she gifted me with some thrifted goodness. My relatives are feeding my twin addictions for milk glass and vintage sheets! Thanks Aunty! I love it! The taller vase is a match to one I already have, but the other one is totally new to me. I have never seen that shape before! Woo hoo!
And a lovely sheet to add to my vintage sheet stash. Just so you know, I actually have been doing something with all these vintage sheets. I have not just been hoarding them. Sneak peek alert! I finished my vintage sheet Sparkling Cider quilt. It was raining too much today to take a proper picture so you just get a sneak peek. Totally made from vintage sheets including the back and the binding. Free motion quilted in loopy loops by yours truly!
A thing of beauty! Soft and lovely, it passed the snuggle on the couch test early this morning. Happy Father's Day!!!!!!
And I will be linking up with Sophie's flea market finds. Don't forget to check out all the lovely treasures found this week!

Weekend Thrifting....
What did I find? On the way to the Quilt Show, I convinced Husband to turn around and zip into a thrift store I don't often visit. We were a bit ahead of time anyway. And there, waiting for me, for the grand sum of $1.50, was the sweetest sewing basket. Round and little. It came home with me. Happily.
I also found a tray cloth or doily, whatever you wish. Nicely embroidered with pussy willows and daffodils and finished with hand crocheted lace. So pretty! In perfect condition and only $1.
And from a while ago and I don't believe I have mentioned them, some really great vintage table cloths. One embroidered and one not. There is a local shabby chic designer, who is often written up in Canadian design magazines, who makes really snazzy pillows with just this type of printed floral table cloth. For the perfect shabby chic room, of course!
I will be linking up with Sophie's Flea Market finds! Check out what other clever people have found this week. And I will get back to my sewing machine, where I will finish a delightful day of quilt making!

Sunday Thrifting...
Found some vintage stationary at the thrift store on Saturday. This box of notecards is complete and came with a sheet of lick and stick stickers which can transform the pretty little notecards into a card for just about any occasion from "A Party Invitation" to "Happy Father's Day." How cool is that????? All you have to do is pick your greeting and stick on the little blank banner. All for $2. I love them!
It wasn't all about the stationary as I also found a wicker laundry basket but that is already in use and didn't get a chance to model for a photo!
Another sunny day. The poppies are starting to bloom!
And I will be linking up to Sophie's Flea Market Finds! Check out what everyone has found this past week...
And some really bright 70s blank notecards.
