Shades

We've been keeping busy lately with a variety of projects. Among the pieces we've recently finished is a 22" Geometric shade, made for a client in North Carolina. This large shade is quite striking when made in deep red tones - in this case the color shifted from a dark red at the top to a brighter cherry red towards the bottom. The shade is being used as a large table lamp on the Large Stick Base.

We also completed the 20" Waterlily for our showroom. Using "Monet sunset" colors with lots of gold pinks, purples and yellows in the rippled water glass, this shade looks like it is reflecting the evening sky at twilight. This piece is currently available for purchase in our showroom.

We are very excited to be profiled in the April 2010 issue of Old House Interiors Magazine. Check local newstands now for this issue.

16" Fish Shade

We completed and shipped the 16" Fish shade we were working on for a client in Pennsylvania. This unusual Tiffany Studios' shade design remains a favorite of ours to work on.

The shade is being used as a table lamp on the Lily Pad - Blown Glass and Bronze base. This base is a collaboration between Lundberg Studios and our studio. Lundberg has created the blown glass insert to our specifications, giving the base its unique look.

Magnolia Windows

Followers of this blog will know that since January we have been working on a large set of Magnolia windows (pictured left). Now completed, crated and shipped to our client in Ohio, the windows are ready for installation in their home.

In the photo, the windows look somewhat somber and moody because they were photographed on our light table. Once installed, sunlight will bring up the blues in the background glass and pinks in the flowers and the panels will be light and airy.

After unpacking the panels over the weekend, our client wrote, "Thanks for blessing me with these wonderful items from your skilled hands. I no longer have to contemplate how extraordinary Tiffany's five-part magnolia window looked in his Manhattan home: for you have fashioned me a work of art that rivals them. They will be cherished by me for years to come."

Irwin finished laying out a new showroom lamp this past week - a shade he began working on in December and had to put aside while the magnolia windows were under construction. This 20" Waterlily shade is being created in "Monet Sunset" colors. We will show the completed lamp in an upcoming post.

Multitasking

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of multiple projects with Bill and Irwin leapfrogging back and forth from one to the next.

After Irwin finished soldering on the Magnolia Windows for our Ohio client, Bill began cleaning and patinating the panels. While the cleaning was taking place, Irwin got to work laying out a 16" Fish shade for another client.

Once the individual panels of the Magnolia Windows were cleaned, we had to lay them out for one final check before boxing and shipping them to Ohio. These windows were so large that we had to use our layout table on the lower level of our studio to check them. The windows will arrive this week at the client's home, ready for installation.

While these projects were being completed and started, Bill was also taking time to draw cartoons for upcoming window projects. Now that the drawings are completed and the Magnolias are shipped, things have calmed down to a more reasonable pace with only two projects being worked on at the moment! Irwin is completing the Fish shade and Bill is working on a suite of small windows for a local client.

Multiple Projects

Last week, we were working on several ongoing projects at the same time. Soldering on the suite of Magnolia Windows for our client in Ohio is nearing completion and took up almost all of Irwin's time. Meanwhile, Bill was busy foiling the Magnolia panels so Irwin could keep soldering. Once the foiling was completed, Bill started attacking his backlog of window drawings which he has to complete for upcoming projects. We also were busy pouring waxes to take to the foundry for several bronze bases that are on order.

Last week, phone orders were brisk for the 2010 Ephraim Faience Pottery/Century Studios Limited Edition Dragonfly Vase (see our posting from February 5, 2010 for more information on this vase). The edition is selling well, and there is only a couple more weeks to place your pre-order (or a maximum of 50 pieces, whichever comes first), so if you are thinking of ordering this vase...call now before the edition is sold out!

16" Pomegranate Shade

Winter is the season for pomegranates - both the fruit and the lamp shade! We recently completed a 16" Pomegranate shade for a New York client, and around this time last year we had an order for a pomegranate shade. For more information about this design, see our posting from Feb 28, 2009.

The shade we just completed was made in specific colors for the client, with a mottled green background and the pomegranates were rendered in a soft blue/pink tone with hints of green. The shade is shown on the Small Stick Base.

After receiving their shade, our client wrote, "Received the shade today, it looks great, you guys do wonderful work!!! We will definitely use you for future purchases and refer anyone we know that is looking."
