Malaysian Night

A week after my stay in London, there was this big event called Malaysian Night. I was told about the event by my aunt who will be opening a stall there. She opened a Malaysian cooking restaurant at Chinatown.

The event was held at Trafalgar Square, Greater London. To come here, you can go by tube to Charing Cross. I went here with my friend from Griffon. I had class earlier that day, so I just met up with her at the event.

There are many stalls opened selling all kinds of Malaysian food such as roti canal, satay, nasi lemak and many more. There are also stalls selling cooking products and fresh produce that can only be found in Malaysia.

There's also a cooking demonstration when we arrived. I forgot the name of the cook. He was cooking 'ayam masak merah'..=D

I managed to take a picture with him. But I won't put it here. hihi....

There are displays of arts and crafts as well. I don't really understand the purpose of this car in front of KL city centre. The car is smokin' though...=P

I bought roti canal just to try. Not the same though...=(    and craaaazy expensive.

I also tried Char Kun Tow from Rasa Sayang Restaurant, due to recommendations of people here who said the best in London. It was ok, I guess (me and my high standards...huhu...)

There were also performances of traditional dances (what else) and singers who sings with the native languages that can be found in Malaysia... Malay, Tamil and Chinese.

Check this out... my fav oldies...

Sadly, even though this event is Malaysian Night, organized by Malaysians. The awareness to prepare a place to pray for Muslims are still non-existence. We had to pray at the side of a stall that's secluded. But it is still loud (because of the performances) and open for a female. I truly thought they would at least have one place for prayer seeing that Malaysia is so proud to be called an 'Islamic country'.

After praying, we received this bag from the tent beside our prayer place. It is Malaysian Tourism stall. As we finished praying, suddenly they're handing these bags away. Alhamdulillah...lucky! =D

All in all, it was a fun evening. We went home at around 10pm, then off to bed.

1st Outing

The first time I went outing was with a friend of mine that is staying at Griffon Studios as well. Lucky me to find a malay that is staying here. She's doing her PhD in Engineering at Imperial College. She has a friend that has been working and staying in London for 5 years. So, she asked me to come along for sightseeing around London with her old friend.

We wired for her friend here, at the London Bridge Station. It's fairly easy to go there from my house. I took an overgrown train to London Waterloo and took an underground tube.

The building that you see at the back is called The Shard.

I don't really know this friend of hers, and I can't even remember her name *shoot*. So I'll just refer to her as 'the friend'.

So the first thing, 'the friend' took us for some coffee... to kick of the so called tour.

Just beside the café was this market that sells all kinds of fresh bread, veges, poultry and much more.

The markets here are not at all like 'pasar malam' or 'pasar tani' in Malaysia. It's very clean, doesn't smell of meat and blood. urgh~~ The floors don't have puddles (unless if it's raining..duh...) and aren't as dirty.

This is a wabbit...eaa....what's up doc? (not funny when they're dead...isk3...)

I don't really remember the chronology of our sightseeing,  but I do know that we walked... all the way! So I'll just show you pictures of the places that I've been to.

People always  confused this with the London bridge. This is actually the Tower Bridge. Mind you, it is not easy to get a picture or a video of this bridge going up like that. 'The friend' who has been here for 5 years got to see this for the first time with us. Jolly good!!!

The London bridge is actually this one...

.
.
.

Yup! This is it. Dull right? Haha... it is famous... so...* full stop*

This is a castle (obviously...haha). Just beside the tower bridge.

 Inside the castle.

 Outside the castle.

Beside the castle.

Now what building is this again??? (@_@)

I only care of this. cheese...

Hi horsie... Not a good view.

The murky clouds is a normal situation in the UK.

Again..I don't know that building. Google it!
I do know it was featured in Detective Conan comics. heee~~

The bullet shaped building. The ball is just a sculpture which happens to be there for the picture. =P It's made out of scrap metal (screws, pipes and stuff)

Then we went on a rooftop of some mall to take a picture of this...

.
.
.

Then... we kept on walking....

Do you remember this bridge? Those Harry Potter buffs out there might know. Recall Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. =D

The Death Eaters didn't attack today. Yippee....

This street is filled with street performers. Guess what is this guy sitting on? Thin air?

Wooden architecture.

Mommy always say don't play with fire. Maybe this guy's mommy never told him that.

Good day Sir!

This is the LONDON DUNGEON! It's like a haunted house + museum of London history and legends like Jack The Ripper.

You know this one. The Big What??? The girl at back is my friend. Interframe much? Haha... just kidding.

London EYE... Spectacular at night. During New Year, fireworks came out of it.

The Westminster Abbey... where Prince William and Katherine got married. <3

And last..but not least... a go to place for people like us....

Where else if not CHINATOWN. Chinatown here is not like in the US, where all the criminals go to. It is perfectly safe... and loads of Asian/Malaysian food. You can find durian here as well! Haha...

During this hours of walk, we actually managed to see a shift change for the guards (on horse and on foot) at a military centre. But I kind of lost the video.....nooo....

So, this is all that I can dig up from my gallery.

Until next time....http://eemoticons.net

Winter Walk 4 Gaza

Salam y'all!

The day of the actual event had finally come. Walkin' the chillin' cold for a great cause: To help the people in Gaza. You know, just because we are million miles away from Gaza, that doesn't mean that we are unable to help them. A simple donation means a great deal to those people.

This event actually was a while ago. My weeks here has been hectic, and only now got the chance to update my blog.

The winter walk was held at Hyde Park, London. There are 4 other venues for this walk will be held. In Manchaster, yesterday (1st Feb), Birmingham (8th Feb) and Leicester (15th Feb).

As in my previous post, I asked all of you for donations. That's what they ask from those who registered. To raise minimum 100GBP per person. I didn't get that much though, as you can see. But, Alahmdulillah. Jazakumullahulkhair for all your donations....=)

The walk as I said was held at Hyde Park, London. We needed to go through the Hyde park corner gate to go to the registration. Because Hyde Park is soooo big, there are various entrances. So you can imagine just how big it is. Google map it!

The program starts with registration, where they already printed the registered names and arranged registration counters alphabetically according to the surname.

After the registration, the participants will receive a foam hand, a bag filled with bottled water, a banana and an apple (for breakfast I presume) and a map of the route which we will need to return to get our certificate. The map stated our participant number, which I thought to be quite neat and organized.

The registration was from 10.00am to 11.00. We arrived around before 10.30, so we needed to wait for almost half an hour. It was quite chilling when you're just standing and doing nothing.

So... we took pictures to kill the time.

After freezing our tootsies off... the walk finally start. Before that there was a briefing, but I couldn't hear or see anything. So, I'm guessing it's not that important. heh~

During the walk, we enjoyed the most amazing and beautiful scenarios of Hyde Park. If you're ever in London, Hyde Park is one of the place you should visit. Chekidout...

The walk actually takes your breath away, not because of the scenery...5 miles feels sooooo far!!!!!
It took a lot of my energy (just proves how out of shape I am).

These signs were put for each mile and there are many volunteers waiting at checkpoints to show us the right path.

Cute eh? *wink* Gives you motivation to walk. Hahaha...

You cannot imagine the satisfaction to be seeing this sign. Fuh~~ All the walk makes you so hot that you don't fell cold at all. I even felt like taking off my coat, which some participants did!

After finally finishing the walk, we can collect our certificate and FREE lunch.. Yeah!!

This wraps are sponsored by the generous company that made it (I forgot the name).

It was delicious after a long and tiring walk.

After the walk, the organizer prepared a little show for all of us from a BMX biker and a football player. Don't ask me who, I haven't got a clue! They told us, but I wasn't paying attention due to the tiredness. Haha..

Enjoy

My own personal present. Hahaha... big blue balloon!!
