Thanksgiving, Shopping and a Puddle

For some reason this year, Thanksgiving felt kind of weird. Perhaps it's because it was the first intimate small affair I've had for Thanksgiving in forever! We didn't even have all of my immediate family and there was no second dinner. We've become used to cooking a large affair with Steve and Heather and even having dinner with her family. So, having dinner with my parents and only two siblings with their families was a little strange. Maybe next year we'll plan a big one or go up to Utah. (don't worry Heather, I'll definitely do the cooking and only impose on your living space!) After getting fat and eating thousands of calories, my sister and I planned Black Friday. It has become a tradition for me and is something I actually enjoy. We decided I would drive to Chino at about 3 am so we could go to Wal-Mart before it started its deals. Dave had to work at noon so we weren't sure what to do about the baby and I finally decided to take him with me and allow Laura to do all the running and pushing. At about 9:30 Thanksgiving night, we decided it might be better if I just spent the night in Chino so I didn't have to drive in the morning. After getting to bed at 11:30 at my sister's house in Chino in my niece's bed (which was not comfortable at all) I ended up getting about 3 hours of sleep between waking up with the baby. We got a late start and got to Wal-Mart around 4ish. We saw a line outside and were confused...Wal-Mart generally just has pallets in the aisles and people crowd around until they're opened at 5am. This Wal-Mart decided to do things differently. (I say this with a very bitter look on my face) They sectioned off the food side of the store and placed all of the doorbusters in the aisles there. They then formed a line (which snaked around the entire store and out the door at least 50 yards). They then allowed people in a few at a time to do their shopping. They were not given limits and were able to grab as many of the doorbusters as they wanted. We were not in line very far out of the store, but by the time we got to the doors people were coming out with PURCHASED doorbusters. Miraculously there were a few items left by the time we got in there, but the one thing we wanted and needed (I didn't even buy movies) was the Samsung camera and they were all gone. I HATE the way they did it because it was horribly unfair. People should have had to pick what they wanted. My theory is that had they not done it that way I would probably have gotten my camera. Somebody who had the camera 5th on their list would not have arrived at the cameras by the time I got to it as my first item. However, as they were walking by them to pick up their GPS they threw it in their cart. BOOOOO. So mad we didn't get it, but whatever. There's always next year, right? On to something with a little humor value... Later that day we went to Tom's Farm in Corona so my parents could look for a TV stand in the furniture store. We were walking around outside with my sister and her three kids waiting for the train to come around so they could ride it. It arrived and a family got off that had two kids. One was like 3 or 4 and the other looked around a year old, 18 months at most. He bent down to inspect a puddle and I watched him put his hands in it (it was pretty little, like 8 inches in diameter and on the dirty cement). I turned away for a second, while my mom turned to watch him. Suddenly he got down on his hands and knees, put his face to the puddle and started slurping. My mom said "Oh my goodness" and his parents rushed to him saying things like "No, if you're thirsty we'll get you something to drink!" and "Dude, don't do that". It was really one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. It was a good end to a long day.

Be careful when shipping packages this holiday season...

Sooo, our camelpak tube melted on the drive down from Utah, so Dave called Nalgene to get another one. It's apparently got a lifetime warranty, so they said they'd send one for free. Then he told them that the bladder is hard to close because the piece to hold onto pulls off from around the cap and breaks the seal. She said they'd send us a whole new pack. Luckily it wasn't a fragile item, because this is how it arrived...

Baptism and Great Grandpa's Visit

A week and a half ago we had another fun-packed weekend. My brother-in-law, Dana was baptized. His conversion was rather sudden and unexpected (although he doesn't think so)and occurred over a 3 week period. He was baptized by his home teacher on a smoky Sunday afternoon and was confirmed this past Sunday. The next day, Grandpa Peterson (my mom's dad) arrived from Oregon and stayed here for a few days. We got to see him quite a bit and Dave was actually able to spend some time with him (he's only met him once). Before he left for home we snapped a picture together with his newest great-grandson. At dinner this past Sunday, Dave taught Dana how to tie a tie. He will be receiving the priesthood on Sunday and passing the sacrament in a couple weeks, so he'll start wearing a white button-up with a tie. It was cute so we documented the lesson.

My niece, the Patriot

This is my beautiful niece Emma who turned 3 today. She's been doing this for about 6 months, and I finally got it on video. They say this in her preschool class that she attends 3 times a week.

The babies

David and his cousin, Hannah were born only 18 days apart...and they must remember each other. From the first day Hannah was born, when we put them together they just stare at each other! Even now, we'll sit them up facing each other and they just laugh and smile! They are super cute together. I just know someday they will be great friends.

An old video...

I have wanted to post this forever, but can never get it to upload. This happened while we were watching TV and playing with the baby. I just love how it doesn't really affect him...he just keeps watching TV. (this is by far not the loudest or longest... he is such a boy!)

Gorilla Scare

Last week while watching my niece, Emma, she got a good scare. Dave has one of those gorilla costumes with the mask, hands and feet and saw the mask while we were in the baby's room. Emma was happily playing while Dave and I had been practicing a song he will be singing in a couple weeks when he found it. He thought it could be funny, so he pulled it on and kinda started dancing around. She didn't see him right away and even stood up while he was doing it...but she still had her head down. But then she looked up when he cleared his throat or something and she started screaming and ran out of the room and down the hallway. We're not talking a normal scream here, we're talking blood curdling, piercing scream that could wake the dead. My mom came racing up the stairs to see what the heck happened and Emma's now sobbing with a terrified expression. She talked about how Dave scared her for like 2 days and kept bringing up the monster head. After telling my sister Laura, about this, she said it would be funny to do it to her girls. So, our cousin, James, was roped into it. After getting Emma out of the room (she had already been traumatized enough) James growled his way into the room with the gorilla mask on and scared Kaitlin, Kinsie and Kourtney. Kinsie is always good for a scare...she's the one who like runs and shrieks. Kourtney just gets sad (thus her pitiful "You scared me" to James). This is what James looked like with the mask on, and it is followed by a video of the event...

Halloween...a little late

I was super excited for this year's Halloween. It's David's first one and it took forever to find the right costume, but we finally picked a lion. He looked absolutely adorable! Dave got his schedule for that Friday just two days before and found out he had to work from 2p-10p...which doesn't exactly work to go Trick-or-Treating. So, I decided to go trunk-or-treating in Chino in my sisters' ward with them and my parents. All day on Halloween he was super fussy. He would sleep and whined basically the entire day. Miraculously, he fell asleep in the car on the way there! He even slept through getting his costume on and then continued to sleep for the entire thing! He took like a 3 hour nap and missed his first Halloween! I was so bummed! Fortunately though, Dave got off early and was able to join us. I'm going to take him to get some pictures done and I'll post them when I get them. For now these will have to do, but more will come later. This is what a sleeping lion looks like....

My Men...

I just needed to take the time to express how much I love my men! I am so blessed to have them in my life. They light up my life and give me my purpose, and I wouldn't have it any other way. PLUS....they're dang cute!

Update

OK, so it has been forever since i posted. Horrible, I know. David now rolls over. He did that for the first time on Oct 14. He loves his tummy time and gets up on his toes and on his knees and holds his head up great. He started talking this morning, well, he found his voice. My mom heard him from downstairs, which means church might be very fun this coming Sunday... He also loves to chew! David grabs your fingers and pulls them to his mouth to gum them. Cute, but slobbery. I kinda think he's starting to teeth. I don't feel any teeth yet, but he'll like rub your knuckle across his gums. Wouldn't it just be my luck to have an early teether?
