there is only one word that describes la isla tortuga--beautiful. We took a 45 minute boat ride from montezuma to "turtle island" where we went snorkeling, ate lunch and laid on the beach. this one was especially nice because there were so few people, but all the beaches we went to were gorgeous! it's amazing how the jungle extends all the way to the coast and meets the sandy beach! when we got back we started our crazy adventure to catch the ferry to puntarenas. the first ferry port we got to had a huge line of cars so we knew we wouldn't make the next one and we thought we might even miss the eight o' clock ferry too. devon decided it would be smart to drive to the next ferry port in playa naranjo, so we did. after thirty km on a bumpy road speeding like crazy, we got there, surprisingly in one piece. we were about the fourth car in line and found out the next ferry we could catch was at nine pm. with three hours to kill we decided to go to the car and put on more comfortable clothes. as devon shut his door i said "do you have the keys?" but it was too late. devon left the keys in the ignition with the battery on (he says he turned it on to check the time because i lost our watch so ultimately it's my fault). we were in a major bind because the cell phone that came with our rental car and the emergency phone number to call were locked inside of course. the only person we knew was the guy that worked at the ferry port office so devon explained what had happened and asked for help in his ever so polished spanglish. the guy knew just what to do i guess. he grabbed two sets of keys and a screw driver and began testing his keys on our locks. we were standing there watching and thinking "we're in trouble." but when he got to the back door of the car he lifted the handle and the door popped open! devon and i both distinctively remember locking the back door when we left montezuma, so we know the Lord was watching over us. we ended up having dinner at a bar. it was interesting because the bar was connected to the family's kitchen and their television was outside in the bar area. so, we sat there and ate our hamburgers and watched tv with this family. it was actually pretty cool but we almost felt like we were intruding on their little family night sitting around the tv. we watched a couple episodes of house on granny's portable dvd player and then got on the ferry at nine. we made it across to puntarenas and drove to manuel antonio...finally!

COSTA RICA

so we went to costa rica for 8 days and it was amazing! it was our belated honeymoon and perfect timing after our much awaited graduation. on april 29, we flew from slc to dallas, and then on to san jose, costa rica. we stayed the night in san jose and left in the morning for la fortuna. we stayed there two nights before leaving for playa samara, where we stayed one night. then we drove to montezuma for another night. after a day there, we took the ferry across the gulf and drove to manuel antonio for two more nights. then we drove back to san jose and stayed one more night before returning to utah.
