Summer Sweet Time

Summer Sweet Time promises the pleasures of Persian-beloved cakes and cream puffs, channelling the charm of an Iranian bakery for all seasons.

The Napoleon Cakes are irresistible - fresh, thin layers of puff pastry, beautifully flaky to the bite, soaked and smothered with whipped cream frosting for mouthwatering layers of crispness and moistness. If you're storing them, these taste even more indulgent a day later, when the pastry soaks up the cream. Available in Original (RM35 for eight pieces), Chocolate (RM40 for eight), or both (RM38 for eight).

The cream puffs are a dream too, with crunchy choux yielding to a full-bodied creamy centre, lovingly home-baked. The classic clocks in at RM32 for 16 pieces; chocolate is RM48 for 16; a mix is RM40.

A sampler box comprising Napoleon cakes, cream puffs, and Latifeh soft cookies is available for RM75.

Calowries Burger, Petaling Jaya

Calowries is worth the calories: PJ's new burgers-for-delivery joint offers not only full-portioned burgers but slider-sized ones too. Customers can savour a taster box of two mini burgers for only RM18.90 - the Braised Beef Burger is bursting with beautifully succulent chunks of unprocessed meat, like a bowl of stew in a burger, while the Classic Beef Burger promises a pleasurable patty that's thickly house-made, tender and tastes like real, honest-to-goodness meat.

Calowries does justice to fried chicken sandwiches too, with battered thigh that remains satisfyingly crunchy and juicy after a half-hour delivery, warmly gooey with melted cheese and mayo, crisp with cucumbers and lettuce (RM16.90). We appreciate how Calowries doesn't compel customers to order a margins-padding set with fries and an unwanted soft drink, but it's worth adding on RM3.90 for the PGR (paprika, garlic and rosemary) fries.

Calowries Burger

Delivers Monday-Saturday, 10am-8pm, from Millennium Square, Section 14, Petaling Jaya.

The Queso: Churro Cream Sandwiches

Spanish churros, turned into cream sandwiches: The Queso's home-baked beauties hit the cinnamon-sugar sweet spot, fresh from the oven for a delicately crisp bite that bows out to a delightfully creamy chew.

Doughnut-shaped delights (box of three for RM25): The light churro contrasts beautifully with the custardy cream in the middle - flavours include the Strawberry Custard and Mango Cream (with real fruit slices, plus strawberry jam and mango puree respectively for a balanced, textured experience) and Biscoff Cream, with everyone's current favourite biscuit spread infused into a luscious layering of cream.

MYCha: Merdeka Series Kombucha in nasi lemak & kari laksa flavours

Nasi lemak kombucha and kari laksa kombucha? MYCha puts a madcap Malaysian spin on the fizzy, fermented beverage that's increasingly popular among health buffs. If you're seeking kombucha with uniquely local inspirations, try MyCha's limited-edition Merdeka Series, available throughout August.

MYCha’s kombucha embraces its effervescence, making them among the most refreshing drinks around, buoyantly bubbly without tasting too sugary, radiating clean, clear and natural-tasting nuances.

The Nasi Lemak Kombucha channels the non-spicy notes of nasi lemak, with cucumber being the surprisingly fragrant cornerstone of this bottle, bolstered by Japanese cucumber bits, with a delicate but distinctive through line of coconut and pandan. If you love aromatic allure in your drink, choose this.

The Kari Laksa Kombucha is punchier and more complex. The curry and kaffir lime leaves hit hard at first sip, well-balanced ultimately by an infusion of toasted coconuts in a kombucha of cinnamon and star anise. It might sound like a strange brew, but it works harmoniously, sultry but somehow soothing.

The Merdeka Series can be purchased together: Two 300ml bottles cost only RM18 in total.

You can also order the two Merdeka Series 300ml bottles together with three bottles of MYCha's regular one-litre kombucha for a total of RM100.

MYCHa's regular kombucha comes in large one-litre bottles, eliminating unnecessary packaging.

The regular range spans the herby (Ginger, Ginger Turmeric, Lemongrass Kaffir) to the floral (Rose Lychee, Lavender, Lavender Dragon, Jamine Goji) to the fruity (Pine Coconut, Guava Dragon, Passion Lavender).

The Guava Dragon (RM30 per litre) is fab in fizz and flavour, groovy in the honest-to-goodness sweetness of lohan guava and red dragonfruit, a true treat for fans of fruity fun.
