Vietnamese graduate at YNU recommends studying in China

Nguyen Phi Long, a young Vietnamese man who graduated from Yunnan University or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – recently visited the Phong Phong Chinese Language Center in Lao Cai, Vietnam, to explain Chinese study policies to local students.

This summer he joined his brother, who works as a tour guide, in welcoming tourists going on cross-border tours between Vietnam and China.

Nguyen majored in Chinese Language and Literature during his time at the School of Chinese International Education at YNU.

Speaking fluent Chinese in a recent interview with the Yunnan Daily, he said that his decision to study the language was not only driven by his love of Chinese but also by the belief that mastering it would be a crucial stepping stone for his future career.

He said studying in China has become increasingly popular in Vietnam in recent years. In fact, the number of Vietnamese students enrolling at Yunnan University this year was several times higher than when he first started, he added.

While at YNU, Nguyen consistently received the Yunnan University President's Scholarship for International Students and the Taetea Excellent Scholarship for International Student Projects.

He also served as a translator for the entire 2023 Lancang-Mekong International Film Week hosted by the Yunnan Film Bureau – and won third place in China's poetry interpretation competition at the fifth Chinese Classics Recitation, Writing and Speaking Competition.

The School of Chinese International Education at YNU has always been committed to cultivating highly skilled Chinese professionals with a deep understanding of Chinese culture and strong global competence and leadership.

This September, Nguyen will begin his studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University, where he hopes to achieve even more of his dreams in China.
