A different present

If you have time and will, you can do something different from the usual presents ^__^

Here's what I've done for my Mother, who loves family's photos.
It's a wood board about 35x60 coloured with acrylics and with some cardboard for leaves and flowers.
The leaves need to support the photos. You can use it as a genealogic tree, if you have pictures of your ancestors
 

I've found a wood board in my cellar, coloured it with a base of acrylics and then I've drawed a bare tree (very simple indeed).
The day after I took some cardboard and I cut from it some leaves (coloured with green) and flowers and I sticked them on the branches, but be careful to put the glue only on an angle of the leaves, because there must be some (thin) space between the leaves and the board, where to put the photo.
The grass too support photos ^^

WAITING FOR SANTA CLAUS pt2

Not only kids wait for Santa Claus. There is something else who wish to meet him and I'm sure he has a present fot them too ^__^

Buon Natale

Questa volta mi prendo per tempo!!!

Night can be long and despites the impatient vigil, heads become too heavy to stay awake.

I'd like to know if someone ever tried to wait for Santa Claus.
Once, maybe I was 6 or 7, in the very night of Christmas, I had to go to the toilet and I heard someone walking between the corridor and the dining room. I stayed in the toilet for a while, listening those footsteps, truely believing it was Santa.
I was a bit scared, because I was sure there wouldn't be any presents for me, if he'd discovered I was awake ^^'

a FAMILY tale

Alcuni di voi che passate per queste pagine vi chiederete "Ma che le è preso che ora scrive in inglese???"
Beh grazie a Deviant Art e ai lavori esteri ho tirato su qualche lettore straniero, quindi per far capire qualcosa anche a loro vedo di scrivere anche in inglese.

Lo scorso post non ho avuto voglia di farlo in italiano ^^'
Vabbè.

Comunque, la pagina qui sotto appartiene ad una storia su cui sto lavorando (pochissimo, lo ammetto) da un anno circa ed è la storia di mia nonna. E' la seconda versione, un po' più raffinata rispetto alle precedenti.
(The pages below belong to a story I'm working on since... one year I think, and it's about my Grandmother. This first page is more refined, a nearly definitive version. )

My Grandmother loved dancing. Even when she was old she went out twice a week to go dancing with her "boy"friend Gigi, a guy she met when they both were young and met again in a elder age (becoming fiancee).

 

This page and the next one have been re-designed.It's about a story happened when my Grandmother was a kid of 3 y.o.

My Grandmother got Alzheimer when she was about 70 y.o. but we learnt she was ill only several years later. In those years we really didn't understand what was happening to her :(

 I don't know if she was aware of what was happening to her. Scenes like this were daily scenes. She felt like she was loosing herself and her mind.

A life through pictures, fading away, the last ones are the first to fade. She thought my Mother was her mother. She had lived a life full of lies, at the very end she couldn't lie anymore.

SOME NEW WORKS

In the last months I've barely uploaded something new, because I'm working on some illustrations I still cannot show (I'm awaiting for the print). They are two books, one about two kids visiting their Grandparents during the Summer holidays (I've drawed a lot of animals!!! ^__^) and another is about the same two kids having a magic adventure during the Christmas-time (a lot of decorations and Christmas trees °__<

Since two weeks or so, I'm working on another book, not for children but for the youth, commissioned by Thomas Nilsen, the head of the technical committee in the Norwegian Karate Federation and assistant principal at a vocational college.

This is a non commercial project and the idea is to focus on morals and ethics for young people, giving them a friendly-looking book with many illustrations.
The story is about a boy, Jojimbo, who meets a old karate Master and learn not only the martial arts but also the meaning of life and how he can face the difficulties.

Just for Fun

Sto facendo delle prove col digitale, per trovare uno stile personale nonostante la tecnica diversa.
Questi personaggi son tutti fatti di stoffa ma cercano di vivere lo stesso come persone normali, nonostante il loro sia un mondo molto limitato.
Ma mica lo sanno. Non ancora, comunque ^^

I'm trying to find a personal style even with the digital tecnique, these are samples of the direction I'm exploring.
These characters are made of wool and cloth, still they try to live a normal life, though their world is quite limited. They do not know it, not yet.

Una Carriola di Disegni

Un blog interessante che mi ha passato mia sorella Anna, vi invito a visitarlo QUI

"Siamo una parte del movimento mondiale degli Urban Sketchers, persone che osservano descrivono, disegnando dal vero, la realtà sociale, artistica, architettonica delle città e dei luoghi che vivono.

Noi vogliamo raccontare L'Aquila e il terremoto come nessuno ha ancora fatto, con matita e taccuino disegnando dal vero, vogliamo raccogliere le immagini dei disegnatori che attraversano le strade, le piazze, le nuove periferie di questa città silenziosa, ma non ancora ridotta al silenzio, vogliamo raccontare i luoghi comuni e non comuni del terremoto.

Dopo la giornata del 4 luglio a cui hanno partecipato 12 artisti siamo tornati in azione, a disegnare a L'Aquila il 25 luglio, tutti perfettamente muniti di caschetto, scortati nella zona rossa da due preziosi vigili del fuoco, con una persona che conosce e ama la sua città a farci da guida e a raccontarci di ogni angolo, per riempire la "carriola di disegni" che sta già facendo il giro della rete.

Il virus della verità, su questo pezzo di Italia squassato dal terremoto prima, e dal silenzio menzognero poi, sta cominciando a spandersi e a richiamare sempre più gente.

Sul blog, come mattoni a ricostruire memoria, gli artisti che sono stati a L'Aquila continuano ad inserire i loro disegni, capaci di evocare dense sensazioni, le stesse provate per le strade, per i vicoli e per le piazze".

TIN-PLATED HEART: WORK IN PROGRESS

Ebbene sì, ogni tanto mi capita ancora di fare qualche fumetto. Eccone uno a cui sto lavorando in questi giorni, TIN-PLATED HEART scritto da Ian Struckhoff (The Deathlings).
Questa è la pagina numero 2 e ho pensato "perché non mostrare l'intero processo creativo?"

YES, I'm still drawing comics, even if I'm posting just illustrations ^^'

TIN-PLATED HEART is written by Ian Struckhoff (the Deathlings), who already have worked with Michela and Manuela.
This is the 2nd page of the story and I like the idea to show the entire working process, from sketch through pencils till colors and inks.


LA BOZZA: mi serve più che altro per avere una base per le matite, anche se poi queste ultime vengono abbastanza diverse.
THE SKETCH: it's the rough drawing of how the page will appear, as you can see, it's quite different from the pencils.



MATITE: Uso una mina blu perché è meno invadente di quella nera ed i colori poi la possono nascondere. Da notare l'uomo nella vignetta 2. Nella versione a colori cambia. Come mai? Perché la sceneggiatura prevedeva un uomo bello e giovane e io mi sono sbagliata e ho fatto un vecchiotto (che ci posso fare, mi diverto a disegnare i vecchi ^^).
PENCILS: I use a blue graphite because is more soft than the black one and colors can hide it. Please note the gentleman on the right ^^ He will change in the colored page. Why? Because in the script he is young and handsome but I had forgotten it ^^'


COLORI: DALLO SFONDO AI DETTAGLI:
Quando coloro, parto dallo sfondo, usando di solito il colore che mi serve per dare "l'atmosfera" alla scena. In questa pagina siamo all'interno di un laboratorio steampunk, ho immaginato una luce verde, marrone e gialla. Nelle prime due vignette c'è anche del blu, percé lì la scena è esterna.
COLORS: FROM THE BACKGROUND TO THE DETAILS:
You can see in the last two panels that I start coloring the background, usually with the color I need for the "light" of the scene. In this page, the set is inside a workshop so I decided that everything is green and brown, with some yellow. In the first and second panels there is some blue, because the scene is set outside.
The panels 1 and 2 are almost finished.

Ora che la pagina è colorata, salta all'occhio il fatto che molte cose sono confuse e in effetti il risultato non sembra granché. No problem, lo devo ancora inchiostrare.
Now the page is colored. As you can see, there are many things confused, the page doesn't look so good. Don't worry, I'm going to ink it.


Beh man mano che inchiostro, la tavola migliora.

Ho lasciato alcune parti del fondale senza inchiostri, così le figure in primo piano risaltano meglio. Inoltre così la vignetta risulta più leggera.
I've left some background without inks, so the figures in foreground stand out.


Pagina finita... quasi, mancano ancora alcuni effetti con Photoshop, ma il più è fatto.

The Golden Path

Il Mago di Oz è sempre stato un bellissimo libro, il preferito di mia sorella Michela. Io invece ho sempre adorato le illustrazioni di Denslow *___*

Mi è capitato di domandarmi, abbastanza oziosamente, il motivo di alcune scelte dell'autore e, cercando in rete, ho trovato un interessante articolo sulle interpretazioni politiche del romanzo.
Ne raccomando la lettura ai curiosi ^___-

I remember, as a kid, how I loved the drawings of W.W.Denslow.

E' trascorso un po' dalla prima puntata, ma questa è una storia che Manuela Soriani ed io portiamo avanti nel tempo libero, più per noi che per altri ^___^
Un antico progetto che ci siamo stancate di tenere nel cassetto e che vogliamo spartire con chi ha la pazienza di star dietro ai nostri tempi biblici.
Un altro tassello che si aggiunge ad una storia molto introspettiva.
