Teeth Extraction + Brave Boy = Fun weekend with Daddy

I'm glad the pediatric dentist was able to fit Truman's appointment in on Friday morning so he could have the weekend to heal. The whole procedure was rather quick and easy. The dentist doesn't like having parents in the same room as the child while the doctor is working on their teeth, which I totally respect. But I have to say the hardest part for me was hearing his scream in the back ground while I was in the waiting room. I was glad to find out later that the screaming was not from feeling pain, but from knowing what was coming. I made the mistake in telling Truman he was getting his 2 front teeth pulled, so any time the dentist got close to touching those teeth, he would scream. They had to find a way to distract him by the nurse messing with his back teeth while the doctor pulled his front teeth.  I love how a few days later while I was talking with a friend about how he got his teeth pulled, he corrected me and said "the doctor was just brushing his front teeth and then they fell out."

After his procedure, he got pick out a toy from the treasure chest along with a few stickers. He looked pretty miserable when I greeted him, but it wasn't long until he got back to normal.

As in he was well enough to go camping with Daddy at the Fathers/Sons campout that same day. Luckily the hot dogs, potatoes, and marshmallows were soft enough for his gums.

He didn't forget about leaving his teeth under his pillow for the tooth fairy and was thrilled by the 2 $1 bills.

On Saturday afternoon, Truman had his first soccer practice/game. His team named themselves the "Jailbreakers." I was glad Mark could be there to watch him.

At the beginning of practice, Truman was in tears, not wanting to play. Part of it could have easily been lack of sleep after a late night camping with Daddy and early to rise that morning. But the main reason for his emotions seemed to be caused by fear of not knowing what to do. Luckily Mark was there to comfort him and let him know if he was ever worried or needed something that Mark was right there on the sidelines. He came running to him once, but after that he was fine. He scored a goal and was very proud of himself. It actually happened after the ball went out of bounds, so it didn't really count, but it was fun to see the excitement on his face.

It turns out that Truman's coach is also an architect.

First week of School, First loose teeth

Truman was very excited about starting up Kindergarten. Right after his first day, he reminded me that we needed to call Aunt Marci and tell her how his first day went. He told her all about his class pets and how the tortoise and fish were still on their summer vacation.

 Showing off those handsome teeth-

His first day was only 1.5 hours, which increased to 3.5 hours... then 6.5 hours. Talk about a huge transition from not even 3 hours last year. I'm pleased with how well he has adjusted to his new schedule/routine. It didn't take him long at all to get comfortable with his teachers and class mates. After picking him up on his second day of school, he mentioned that he has to give his teachers a good bye hug before he leaves. Mia and Lisa really are amazing teachers and so great with kids. Not only did we win the jack pot for best public school in NYC, but the best teachers.

After a week of school, came "crashing in a surprise" to all of us. So the truth is, Truman came crashing down some stairs just about knocking his 2 front teeth out. This happened Sunday afternoon at church during our linger longer when he got running around with his friends (Lesson learned: no more running around in church on Sundays). Mark and I were both talking with friends and all the sudden I heard Truman's voice crying. I ran over and saw his Sunday clothes drenched in blood and more of it rushing out of his mouth. Thanks to a few friends there to help out with the rescue. We rushed him to an urgent care that was just 7 blocks up the street. I could go into more detail, but for the readers sake, I'll stop there. The doctors were great and we feel blessed that he didn't have to get stitches. After his appointment at the pediatric dentist, we surprisingly found out that his 2 front teeth will have to be pulled to avoid getting an abscess.

Truman's reaction: EXCITEMENT! What child isn't excited about loosing their teeth only to save if for the tooth fairy in return for the treasure they will find under their pillow? I'm a little sad that he won't have his cute 2 front teeth for the next couple years, but things could have been worse off. After viewing the x-rays, his new teeth are a head of schedule and on their way in 1.5-2 years. Now Truman will be seeing "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" for the next couple years. Or will he? Will he enjoy not having 2 front teeth?
We shall see.... I'm just glad he isn't acting miserable and has been very brave through this whole ordeal.

Before...

Truman loves pushing the stroller. It feels weird to be hands free with 2 kids in NYC.

Now with Truman in school, Chantel and I have plenty of extra one on one time together. Sometimes I don't know what to do with myself. In the mornings after Truman goes off to school, she'll start pulling books out and reading them out loud. I think she's reminding me that we need to have our little at home preschool on a regular basis.

After...

Truman is scheduled to get his teeth pulled tomorrow morning. :( It makes me sad. He sure had nice front teeth.

And just to add to the drama going on in our house hold, Mark and I attended a funeral of a sweet 96 year old man in our ward who passed away. He was a member for about 4 years and was so diligent at attending his church meetings until his health took a turn for the worst this past year and a half. We will miss his energetic love and spirits he showed to all of us.

Here's a picture of what they used for his obituary. Mark used his amazing photo shop skills and did some major editing. If you look closely at the original, someone had drawn all over his eyes and chin giving him a nice goatee.
