Dessert Recipe Linky Party: Thanksgiving Recipes

With Thanksgiving approaching so fast, I've selected a couple recipes to highlight which you might want to prepare for your family this holiday. Each year our Thanksgiving just wouldn't be right if we didn't have some very specific dishes like sweet potatoes with marshmallows (click for an interesting bit of trivia about this famous dish), but I also always prepare some brand new dishes to keep the menu fresh and unexpected. These recipes would make great additions to my menu -- and yours.

First up, Candy linked up her Apple Pear Cranberry Honey Cream Mini Pies.

Alessa linked a very special tried and true recipe she has been preparing for her family and friends for the last 20 years, a Pumpkin Cheesecake.

What are your Must-Prepare dishes for Thanksgiving? What kind of new dishes will you be trying out this year?

You're invited to this Halloween Linky Party

 Happy Halloween!!

Trick or Treat! No tricks about it, I'm sharing two of your own treats from last week's linky party, and I have a sweet giveaway to save your precious memories too.

First treat: Apple Pumpkin Muffins shared by Karen at Trilogy Edibles. Don't they look scrumptious? Such great flavors for the entire fall season.

Second treat: Banana Bread from Paula, one of The REAL Housewives of Riverton. The recipe makes enough to share several loaves.

Next treat: Yours! Won't you share one of your sweet recipes for this Halloween linky party?

Vintage Recipe: Magic Coconut Orange Loaf Cake

Happy Thursday to all! It's time for more vintage recipes. I try to preserve these gems for another generation. You are invited to preserve your own vintage recipes, your mom's, grandmother's, aunt's or vintage recipes from old cookbooks, postcards, adverting, etc. So many are quite delicious, some are hilarious. So whether you want to honor a loved one's recipe or give us a "what were they thinking" chuckle, please link up your vintage recipes below. I can't wait to see what you have to share. Today, I'm taking a break from my vintage cookbook to share an old advertising recipe for a tasty coconut orange cake. It's a Canadian brand since 1897.

Magic Baking Powder Coconut Orange Loaf

Magic Baking Powder2 1/2 cups once-sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons Magic Baking Powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon mace
3 teaspoons orange rind
1/2 cup orange juice
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tablespoons Planters Peanut Oil
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 cup seedless raisins
Preheat oven to 350 F. (moderate). Sift together into a large bowl the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and mace. Add orange rind. Make a well in center. Combine, then add the orange juice, milk, eggs, and oil. Stir until just blended. Stir in coconut and raisins. Pour batter into a well-greased 4 1/2" X 8 1/2" loaf pan. Bake for one hour or until done.

BEFORE YOU LINK YOU MUST:
For basic linky party etiquette you MUST: Follow the linky party theme; link directly to your participating posts; link back to all your hostesses on each participating post (NOT a different page), and don't just link and run. Please do your best to visit fellow participants and leave them a comment. Because of those who don't follow such etiquette, I'm saddened to say that for the first time in almost 4 years of blogging, I will have to resort to deleting those who abuse the use of the linky parties here at Joy of Desserts. Thank you! If you follow basic linky party etiquette, I thank you. All your hostesses and fellow bloggers will appreciate it and you will benefit too. You will find that you are helping your own blogs become more popular and helping the foodie community remain a friendly community.

Recipe: French eclairs and cream puffs

Today is Bastille Day or French Independence Day so I thought I'd share a French dessert.  My Household Searchlight cookbook which I use each week for Vintage Recipe Thursday is definitely all-American.  There are very few foreign recipes and fewer French recipes, but I did manage to find cream puffs and eclairs.  You can click on the link for the Cream Puffs Recipe which I previously shared.  You'll need it to make these eclairs.  I also have the cream filling recipe at this link.

Both cream puffs and eclairs are very easy to make, so don't be fearful, just go for it.

Make this recipe for any petit chou in your life, and don't believe anyone who tells you that this term of endearment means cabbage.  The French call children or loved ones their little cream puffs.  Much more endearing and romantic than a cabbage, don't you think?

I will be sharing this recipe with Sweet Treats Thursday, Full Plate Thursday, Food On Fridays, Fresh Food Friday, Savory SundaySo Sweet Sundays, Sweet Indulgences Sunday, Weekend Showoff Party, Party Mindie-Style Weekends, Mingle Monday, Creative Creations Tuesday, Tea Party Tuesday, Tea Time Tuesday, Domestically Divine, Made it on Monday (Wed-Sat), Share the Love Vintage Wednesday, These Chicks Cooked Recipe Spotlight Wednesday, Whatever You Want Wednesday.

French Eclairs Recipe
Prepare the recipe for cream puffs.  Shape the mixture with a pastry tube into 4-inch strips on a well-oiled baking sheet. Allow 2 inches between the rows of eclairs. Bake as cream puffs. Cool. Cut a slit in the top of each.  Fill with cream filling. Ice by dipping into any desired icing.

Vintage Recipe Thursday: Raisin Squares

Come link your family recipes and other vintage recipes.  The linky is below so that we can all preserve these time-honored mini treasures.

This recipe isn't called a brownie, but that's exactly what it is.  It has raisins and nuts, but if you don't like nuts in brownies, you can of course omit.

Don't forget to enter my latest giveaway if you haven't yet done so.

I'm sharing this recipe with Sweet Treats Thursday, Food On Fridays, Fresh Foods Friday, Savory SundaySo Sweet Sundays, Sweet Indulgences Sunday, and Mingle Monday, Penny-Meal Monday, Creative Creations Tuesday, Domestically Divine, Made it on Monday (Wed-Sat), Share the Love Vintage Wednesday, These Chicks Cooked Recipe Spotlight Wednesday, Weekend Showoff Party, Party Mindie Style Weekends.

Graduation cake inspiration

I'm always a proud mom, but this year our son is graduating, so that makes me a bit more proud.  I was searching for ideas for his graduation cake and I'm sharing for any of you who might also have a graduate in your life, but some of the cakes could work for other occasions too.  There are cakes for Super Grads of all ages from elementary school to university and graduate school.  Congratulations to the Class of 2011.

This post is shared with What I Love Wednesday, Wordless Wednesday, Thursday-13. If you are participating in Wordless Wednesday too, be sure to add your post to the linky at the bottom.
