the last seven days

in what may or may not become a regular feature here at maison21, at the close of every week, i'm going to repost some instagram highlights from the last seven days (more or less- i think i might have nine days here). i see and do so many fabulous things over the course of my week, why not share them one last time? but don't worry, i'm not going to share everything with you, cuz if i shared the reality that 90% of my week was spent in the office writing PO's, submitting invoices, sending follow-up emails, and making phone calls, you'd get the idea that interior design isn't glamorous at all, and that's the last thing we want to do. ;-) so just the fun, pretty, chic or cute bits of our week. enjoy.
we relaxed around the house a bit
and sat in the sun
enjoyed a groovy lunch and viewed new product at natural curiosities with my lovely friend, ginna christensen, creative director for marc phillips rugs.
tried a cute new artisan ice creamery in the 'hood, carmela's.  my friend, kathy's fab frenchy-french shop, vintageweave, is right next door and she's been raving about it. and when kathy raves about something, i pay attention- girlfriend is in the know.

did some shopping for accessories at the ok store, amongst others in the 'hood (love to shop local!)
visited my friend, emily henderson, who was hosting an etsy pop-up shop at teh west elm store
where we saw these adorable baby things (ps- we LOVE buying handmade and supporting artisans  & small business owners)

went to a chic dinner at designer michael berman's glamorous home
took a hike in teh great outdoors
went to a party at woven accents, where i fell in love with these shaggy beni ourain style moroccan rugs
went to a glammy dinner hosted by duralee fabrics, where i laughed until my sides hurt, courtesy of tobi fairley, amongst other delightful guests.
went to cost plus just to see what they had and couldn't resist styling this vignette (designers, can't take them anywhere) leather butterfly chair, $199, printed purlap pillow, $25, flokati, $99, and fakey african table, $149
took some walks in teh rain with ted when the weather turned
and finally, hosted a giveaway for a chic john robshaw book on the blog (thanks duralee!)  ps- have you entered?

duralee john robshaw book giveaway! (lucky me, lucky you!)

the last few days have been rather extraordinarily fun- as many of you know, there was a design blogger's conference here in los angeles, and though i didn't attend the conference (have to work and pay the bills!), i was lucky enough to be invited to some chic parties, dinners and events surrounding  the conference. seriously- lucky me- amongst them was a fabulous dinner at one's of LA's top designers, michael berman's glam home (we'll be taking a field trip to his new "bronze studio" on beverly soon), as well as an incredibly fun dinner hosted by duralee at the chateau marmont (one of my fave LA places).
glammy!
fancy!
now i ain't laying out these dinners as a humble brag, i know just how fortunate i am be invited to these events, and part of that reason is because of you, my dear readers, who keep visiting here day after day, year after year.  if it wasn't for you, i would have had been goin' thru the in n' out drive thru monday night instead of attending a glam chateau marmont dinner hosted by one of my favorite fabric houses. as you are also probably aware, duralee has a partnership with design heartthrob, john robshaw, and so at the dinner, we were each given a signed copy of his book, "john robshaw prints", and here's where the lucky me, lucky you, comes in- you have a chance to win a *signed* copy of the book for your very own!
pretty!

signed!
so how do you win? simply like duralee  and maison21 on facebook via rafflecopter (if you've already "liked" us you can still enter), and then get an extra entry if you tweet to your friends about the contest! easy peasy!

thanks, and good luck!

design 100 book giveaway!

if you are anything like m21, you are missing the modern design coverage provided by the late, lamented, metropolitan home magazine. well, some of the best design from the last few years of that sadly shuttered title has been gathered in a great book, Metropolitan Home Design 100: The Last Word on Modern Interiors by michael lassell. no tassels, swags or ruffles in sight (well, maybe a lil bit); just good, contemporary design- some of it a bit cutting edge, and some a bit wacky- but always interesting.  so much preferable in our opinion then seeing some musty old period decor recreation (if we see one more 18th century farmhouse, we'll scream- swear!)

here are some of the fabulous interiors contained within that caught our eye:

like what you see? well, you can own these images forever, as we are giving our reveiw copy away to a lucky reader!

so how do you enter to win this lovely book?  there is a bit of a catch, but it's not so bad: simply follow our new tumblr blog, maison21: i'll tumblr for ya by clicking the RSS button under my picture on the right-hand of the maison21: i'll tumblr for ya page, and entering your email (US residents only please). once you subscribe,  you will be automatically entered to win. (don't worry, you'll only get one email a day from the blog, and you can unsubscribe at anytime- easy peasy!)  alternatively, if you already follow via tumblr, and don't wish an additional email in your inbox everyday,  email me the tumblr name you follow under, and then i'll go ahead and enter your email in the drawing). i'll draw the winner in a week, contact you via the email you've signed up under, and then ship your book out sometime after (warning, don't be in a hurry- you'll get your free book when ya gets it! it took me over a month to drag my sorry butt to the post office to get nita's book to her, after our last giveaway!).

see ya on the tumblrs to get your free stuff!

and the winner is...

first, thank you to all who entered our "the irish country house" book giveaway! the last time we had a giveaway on our blog, a couple years ago, we only had a couple dozen entries, so we were positively shocked to get 134 entries for this beautiful book! and we truly wish we had a copy to give to each and every one of you for coming here and to participating in the silliness of our blog! (we also wish we had whole libraries to give to those of you who said the sweetest things along with your entries- you may not have won a book, but you sure won my heart- thank you!)

last time we had a giveaway, we printed out each email address, then cut them into strips and crumpled them into little balls, which we threw in front of richard in the hopes he'd single one out to play with... unfortunately, we just scared the bejesus out of him, so this time we used the random number generator at random.org, which spat out lucky number #3- fellow blogger and dog-lover, nita, from mod vintage life!
congrats nita- your book will be on it's way to you soonish- we love you, truly we do, but we hate the post office, so it will have to wait for a trip in which we can combine mailing a couple of things. ;-)

and again, to the rest of you who played along, and who visit this ridiculous little blog of ours regularly, we sincerely thank you, and invite you to come back for another giveaway soon- this one was so much fun, we've decided we need to do more!

free stuff! giveaway of "the irish country house"

a lil bit before xmas, the nice people at vendome press were generous enough to send maison21 a review copy of their fab new release coffee table book, "the irish country house", and instead of reviewing it, m21 did what one does with a coffee table book- put it on his coffee table, where it languished, until today...
so having somewhat shame-facedly having rediscovered the volume in a bit of spring cleaning, we'd like to make up for our lack of a review and host a giveaway of our copy! that's right- absolutely free stuff, from me to you!

here's a taste of what's inside this beautiful book:

to enter the giveaway, just click here to send an email (don't worry- your email will not be shared). please put "book giveaway" in the subject line, so we know it's not one of the dozens of spam emails we get daily, and provide your address so we can mail your copy to you should you be the lucky winner.  also, since we are hosting this giveaway ourselves, we are going to request that entrants live in the US- no offense to our international friends, but we'd like to keep shipping costs down. we'll pick a winner march 5th and send out your book! easy-peasy!

good luck!
