More fun in 2011....sort of

For Adam's birthday this year the boys and I made him a very different kind of cake. We made three different kinds of cake balls which we then dipped in chocolate, white chocolate, and vanilla flavored frosting. then we loaded on the candles! The boys thought it was tons of fun and in the end, I'm not sure if it was more for Adam or the boys. =0). For one of his gifts we surprised him with ski tickets to Mnt. Bachlor and a two night stay in SunRiver for him and three of his good buddies. They had a great time skiing, snowshoeing, playing the xbox and just having a guys weekend in general. However, while traveling home on very icy roads, they rounded a corner only to discover a snowplow stopped in their lane. In the middle of the opposing lane another vehicle was stopped with the driver actually attempting to put on chains right there. The seven foot walls of snow on either side of the road made maneuvering around them impossible so his only option was breaking like crazy which as you can see from the picture, didn't entirely work out. The most frustrating part of the whole thing for me was getting that call, knowing that it was going to add on a least another four hours before he got home. Normally not a big deal, but I had caught the stomach flu AGAIN and had been throwing up since just a few hours after he left. By day three I couldn't even get out of bed. Luckily the boys did a great job of fending for themselves, but I think even they were getting a little tired of PB&J sandwiches!

Trip to OMSI

For spring break, we met Uncle Troy and his boys at OMSI in Portland. It worked out great because for history in homeschooling this year Calvin is learning about ancient Egypt. He's totally fascinated by history and loves to memorize facts. OMSI had an Egyptian exhibit going on with an actual mummy on display. On the trip over, I looked back and saw Seth contently looking out the window while snuggling "Big Bear" and I couldn't resist taking a pictureThis was the only place in the Egyptian exhibit that they allowed photography.Once a week I have been teaching Calvin and his friend, Clara, history in school. I really enjoy it. This is a picture of them working on their cuneiform and hieroglyphic carvings.
