Michael found out that he got the 4th and 5th off of work so since we had a long weekend we though it would be fun to travel to some of the parks in Utah that we hadn't been to before or hadn't been to together. We needed to be in Northern Arizona Monday night so we just slowly headed south. We ended up leaving Friday(5th morning) and went to Goblin Valley. Michael had never been and only time I was there was on a Geology field trip, so it was nice to visit not having to draw rocks or identify them. We arrived at the park in the heat of the day. It was so blasted hot, but we had a fun time walking around all the "goblins"
Friday evening we then drove down to a hotel outside of Capitol Reef. Saturday we went into the visitor center and asked what they would recommend if we wanted to spend the day. She suggested a few different ones, so we headed out and did the Grand Wash. We were told to watch the sky because the Grand Wash has a slot canyon in it so it if started to rain we should leave before it flashed flooded.
As we were near the end of the trail I looked up and saw the clouds all coming together, so I decided that we should probably head back. We turned around and it started sprinkling and then raining pretty hard. We got out of the slot canyon and then found cover in an overhand, and waited till the rain calmed down. When we got back to the car, the rain had stopped and the sky looked pretty calm so we decided to do another hike. This one was an old pioneer trail and some natural water tanks.
As we were hiking out it started pouring again. As we drove out we saw the ranger closing both trails due to potential flash floods!
That night it cleared so we went back to watch the sunset
The next day we drove Highway 12 down to Escalate. Highway 12 is one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken. It was crazy how the landscape changed and the different views along the way
In Escalate we hiked Calf Creek falls. It was gorgeous! There were even some pictographs that we could see.
We then went to the petrified forest state park
That night we drove to a hotel outside of Bryce Canyon
That morning we went and did a small hike to a waterfall
We then went into the park. It was incredible. I had never seen anything like it! I hope we can go back and spend some more time there. We did the queens trail and then the took the Navajo trail back up. It was so cool to start on top then descend all the way down then hike all the way back.
