Lucky Number Seven

So, as I've mentioned in the last two posts, Landry's seventh birthday was this past Thursday.

In the past few days we have heard this:

This is the best birthday ever.
Today was the best day of my life.
You are the most awesomest parents ever.

Oh yeah...mom of the year here. (not)

Most of this has everything to do with her birthday surprise from PopPop and Gigi.

We met my mom & dad on Abilene on Wednesday (you know, the day it got down to 9 degrees here and school was delayed because it was icy?) so Landry would have her birthday present by her actual birthday.

Meet Baxter.

Or, as Korley pronounces it--Bastard.

We have been telling Landry for as long as she's been able to ask for a dog that she wasn't going to get one until she was eight. So, needless to say, she was VERY SURPRISED that she got a dog. Gigi picked out the perfect pooch a couple of weeks ago and took care of him at her house until we met in Abilene. It was a GREAT surprise!

I have to admit that I'm not much of a dog lover (or any animal for that matter), but Baxter has been a pretty good pup so far. He doesn't bark or shed, which is a plus--and, once he figures out the whole potty training business then we've got it made. Fortunately, since he's only about 3 lbs right now, his "potty" isn't very substantial!

Landry had school and gymnastics on her birthday, like she does every Thursday. So, since we didn't get finished with all of that until early evening and didn't have time to go out to eat for her birthday, I told her I would make whatever she wanted to eat for her birthday. She chose her favorite dish--macaroni and meat.

Macaroni and meat? Yeah, I wouldn't have chosen it, either, but she LOVES the stuff. Actually, it was "discovered" by accident. I made beef stroganoff one night and didn't have any egg noodles, only macaroni noodles. However, it was an instant hit with Landry and Korley--and that was the beginning of macaroni and meat.

Landry and Jeff fist-bumped over mac and meat.

After mac and meat, we had birthday brownies--again, Landry's request.

During dessert, Landry asked, "who likes brownies?" It was unanimous.

Then, Landry opened her two presents from us.

And read her card. She's so good. She ALWAYS reads the cards. Even amid all of the chaos at her birthday party with her friends, she would stop and read the cards that came with her gifts. I'm so proud that she's so thoughtful.

Landry--happy birthday, sweet girl. We love you so much and are so proud of you! We are so lucky to be your parents!

Happy 7th Birthday, Landry

Today is Landry's birthday. In fact, about an hour ago, it was seven years to the minute she was born. It just doesn't seem like it's been that long--time has gone by so fast.

Landry has had a great day. In fact, she said earlier that the past couple of days have been the best days of her life. More about that later, but for now, a look back at how my baby has gone from an infant to a caring, thoughtful, loving young girl.

Birthday Party!!

In just two short days, my oldest baby will turn seven.

SEVEN!!!

I can't believe it. It's cliche, and every mother says it--but, I can't believe how fast time has gone by. It just doesn't seem possible that she can already be seven!

Her birthday party was this past weekend, and it was a lot of fun. In some ways it was pretty much like her 5th and 6th birthday parties. She chose to have a gymnastics party, just like her 5th birthday--and, she wanted the same exact horse cake that she had last year at her 6th birthday party. If it ain't broke....

Many of her classmates came and Landry had so much fun playing with them outside of school. But, the highlight of the weekend was that her cousins came in from Dallas and spent the weekend with us. Landry LOVES playing with her cousins, and this was their first time to Lubbock, so it was a special treat for Landry (and Korley!).

INTENSE game of dodgeball!

Nobody had more fun than Korley.....

Thinking about it.....

Happy Birthday!

Blast from the past....from her 5th birthday party.

6th birthday party cake!

Randomness

Update--FYI, Landry has no idea about the puppy and he's currently living with my mom and dad until we can surprise her for her birthday. So, if you see or talk to Landry in the near future, don't spill the beans!! Thanks!

I had good intentions of posting a couple more times since my last post, but it just didn't happen. Ugh....

And, I don't really have anything particular to blog about so I'll talk about some random stuff from pictures I just downloaded from my "back-up" camera. :)

Feel free to bow out now because trust me--this post is going nowhere.

Every year, my closest sorority friends have an After-Christmas-Christmas party. This year, my friend, Christie, hosted on New Year's Day. We were all there except one (we missed you Angie!) with all of our families. It's so fun to see everyone each year and see how big our group is getting with all of the additions!

We're even missing 4 kids from this picture!

The following day we went to the Cotton Bowl. Ugh--it was good for about 8 minutes and then it was all downhill from there. I've been to all (of my lifetime) Tech Cotton Bowls and we have lost every time. I'm starting to take it personally. And, holy cow it was HOT. It certainly felt more like June and less like January. But, we had a good time and it was great to be at the last Cotton Bowl in the original Cotton Bowl.

Also, I had a star sighting at the Cotton Bowl. See that gray-haired dude right there. That's Buddy Garrity from Friday Night Lights--my FAVORITE show! I mean, it wasn't Tim Riggins (unfortunately!), but I'm easily starstruck!

In other news, Landry's 7th birthday is next week. This is what she's getting......

Reflecting

Wow. We're thirteen days into 2009 and this is my first post of the year.

I've said it time and time again, but I definitely didn't intend to take this much time between posts. But, things have been busy!

I have lot to catch up on, but for now I want to review 2008 in pictures (yeah, even though we're 13 days into 2009!). Since I use this blog to journal and document things that have happened with our family, I want to remember the important events from last year.
