A weekend treat

Last weekend we were invited by our Swiss neighbors to spend a night in their chalet up in the Swiss Alps. We've heard so much about this place. They have rented it every winter for the last 9 years together with two other families. It is their true haven. Never did I imagine it being this cool and beautiful. True haven indeed.

It was 2 degrees Celsius when we arrived. But the ambiance in this spacious old chalet made us warm (and our jackets, hats and slippers...). I love this place!

Jay brought some homemade chili for dinner. I brought Cava (I've decided to celebrate my 50th birthday at any opportunity throughout the whole year of 2019). A glass of bubbly is always adding that little extra to any occasion. :)

A few bottles of wine later (!!!) and lots of deep conversation about life (kids growing up, marriage, rediscovering ourselves, our future plans and dreams) the temperature had crawled up to a good 13 degrees Celsius thanks to the wood pellet heater. around midnight we tucked ourselves into beds with woolly socks and flannel pyjamas and the blankets pulled up to our ears. I slept like a baby.

We spent Saturday on the hill skiing and then we were invited to stay another night. Yes please! If I only could have a grand kitchen-social-space like this at home. A swing! Shouldn't we all have a swing in our homes? I mean - helloooo! That big dining table was fitting us all at breakfast as well as dinner. And all the windows made this room so light in the day. The charm of this chalet definitely lies in its simplicity. Nothing is fancy. It is more rustic and unpretentious. Such a homey, joyful and tranquil place. No stress allowed... Did I say I love it?

Big Thank You to our dear neighbors who invited us to this magical place. It is a true gem.  This weekend will be remembered.

Rambles in May

The cows are so relaxed, sun bathing on the field next to our garden. They are young ladies, quite temperamental. At times the run up and down the hill like crazy girls.

Emmy Bo and I are putting up laundry on a sunny day. It has been grey and rainy for a long time. I feel my energy levels switch in an instant when the sun comes out. I want to get things done, tackle projects.

A big project that was started last week was a re-arrangement of Luca Bo’s room. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long long time. His room is a stress trigger for me... He is a typical teenage boy. Dirty laundry mixed with garbage, school books, magazines, half eaten fruit, empty soda bottles, cups and bowls that has been brought up but never found their way back into the kitchen… And then there is of course all the creative stuff like tools, glue guns, fabric strips and foam, string, tape, wood pieces and cardboard… Right now he is heavily into puppet making. I’ll show you his creations one day. For being a beginner (I would say he’s been into this for a good 3 weeks…) I’m amazed by what he has managed to create. Can you hear I’m a proud Mama?

Anyway, Luca Bo went on a school sport camp for the whole week and I took my chance to dive into his boy cave. I just held my breath and got started. It was now or never.

Emmy Bo turned 11, quietly. She doesn't want to turn eleven. It is hard. There has been tears. Comfort hugs. Reassurance that growing up isn't a bad thing. It's hard. For her. And for me. But when her two BFF's came over and gave a full box of slime ingredients including Borax, happiness was in full swing. Birthdays are not that bad after all. Not with sleep over party including sweets, ice cream cocktails and movies until midnight.

The garden is in full swing and I'm discovering new blossoms every day. It is beautiful. I can't help but being fascinated over half dead plants that are now coming alive. I'm soaking it all in to the full while taking regular moments on my bench with coffee and crochet. Sounds like a lovely life, doesn't it? It is. It is a great life. Its' not perfect, but it is great. And who wants perfect anyway? Perfect is so boring. Naaah, I'm all for simplicity and the beauty in imperfections. There is beauty in everything.

This and that on a Sunday

A lot has been going on here lately. Time is running so fast I find it hard to keep up with all the happenings. So here is a little round up of my "lately".

There has been lots of granny square makings here. All the pieces for my crochet patchwork project are done and nicely blocked. Now the joining can begin. It is a very satisfying project and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I'm also working on the Daisy square blanket and I've just started on the border. All the squares are made by Nelly Bo and I will hold on to it and give it to her one day when she might have a baby. At least that is what I'm thinking as I don't just want to give it away. It might take 15 years or so, but it will be worth waiting for. It's a nice thought. :)

As many of you've seen on my Instagram, I made an attempt to crochet outside. It didn't last for long, the sun was very seductive at the time but the air was still to chilly to enjoy. I made one daisy square and not even the many layers of fleece and duvet could make me stay for longer. The coffee got cold in just minutes. But it was a nice try. :)

Nelly Bo has been making dream catchers. They are everywhere in our living room, dangling in windows and on walls. She is very good at it and I will list them all in my Etsy shop for you to buy. She is saving up money for world travels once school is over. I'm a proud Mama I have to admit (smug face!).

We had school break and took a short trip to Lucerne. What a beautiful place. We strolled the streets, visited museums, had coffees and donuts. I'll share more in a Lucerne post another day, but you can see some sneak peeks from the beautiful architecture and charm this small town has.

Last week I released my latest pattern the Olivia's shawl (read about it here and buy it on Etsy and Ravelry) and I'm so happy to see so many of you are liking this latest design of mine. Thank you so much for supporting me and my Rose Valley through your purchases. My cheeks are blushing of pride. :)

And the snow. Shall we talk snow. Really? We had our fair amount. I've shoveled the front of the house more than once (see video on Instagram). It is a hard job but a job I kind of like. Afterwards there is always the joy of indulging in coffee and crochet all warm and peaceful with red cheeks. That is the best part.

Well, that was a glimpse into my life lately. More is to come. This week I'll share some more crochet inspiration and I'll try and get those dream catchers in my Etsy shop pronto. I'll let you all know hen they are going live. Happy Sunday and until next time - Stay cozy & warm!
