A little scare
Lilia gave us a good scare last week. On Thursday I got to work and suddenly started feeling a lot of cramping and tightening in my stomach and sharp pains near my left ovary area. It seemed to get worse if I stood up or sat, the only thing that helped was laying down which isn't easy to do at the office. It finally got bad enough that after about an hour and a half my boss decided she was taking me to the hospital herself. I was freaking out. I have no idea what's normal and what's not, but this was definitely not normal. I couldn't even stand up straight. I got to LDS hospital Emergency at about 3:30 and they took me right up to labor and delivery. Nate was on his way and got there just a few minutes after I got into my room. The nurse (who doesn't normally work at LDS and couldn't find ANYTHING) hooked me up to the fetal monitors and told me she couldn't check my cervix without an order from the doctor so she went to track down the on-call doctor. Lillia was kicking and moving like crazy and her heartbeat sounded fine, but I was still having tightening and pain. About 2 hours later the nurse came back to say she finally got ahold of the on-call doctor but they were just changing shifts, so that doctor told her to find the new doctor. It was probably another 2 hours before she came back with instructions to swab my cervix and run a few tests. For some reason they thought I might have a UTI. ha! I've had plenty of those and this was not a uti. She even seemed surprised when that test came back normal. The other tests to determine if I was in labor took more than an hour to process. Around 9 they came in with the result that I wasn't in labor and then the new nurse (shift change) said the doctor (who I still haven't seen) wanted to test for kidney stones. One excruciating catheter later, and another 45 minutes.. and another negative test result.. the nurse came back in and discharged me. Not a thing was wrong except maybe some irritation on my kidney from the baby pushing against it, and after I'd been laying down for so long, I felt a lot better.
I spent 6 hours in a hospital bed, never once seeing a doctor. Luckily, Nathan was with me, and before the first nurse even walked through the door, he gave me a blessing. I know it was that blessing that put an end to whatever was wrong, even before the nurses could figure it out. I'm so thankful for his priesthood and his comfort and support. Nate isn't one to be cold, ever, and he froze his butt off sitting in that hospital room with me all night.
My OBGYN saw me early Friday morning. He checked my cervix and I was not dilating and then he had me get an ultrasound to make sure my cervix wasn't thinning either just to be extra sure everything was good. The internal ultrasound looked really good, and the ultrasound lady did a regular ultrasound to look at Lilia some more. She started laughing when she saw our little baby girl is head down, with one leg and foot high up over her head :)
My doctor thinks Lil may have been squishing my colon (causing the sharp pains on my left side, and my muscles may have been working overtime to move her over).
Whatever it was, I'm glad it's over, and I'm glad that Lilia was never in any distress.
We're 2 1/2 months away from having our first baby and I'm feeling so many different feelings, but overall I just want wait to have her here, and have this pregnancy over with!

How I Told Nate
The morning I found out we were pregnant I had told Nate to pick up some cupcakes from the Sweet Tooth Fairy since it's right next to his work in Draper. As I spent the morning deciding how I was going to tell him, I thought this would be perfect, since he was already expecting to grab cupcakes. So I called the bakery and asked them to help me out. I ordered four cupcakes in different flavors, and had them do pink and blue frosting with little baby things on top :) So cute right?? I thought so too...
So I told Nate I called to see what flavors they had that day and just placed the order over the phone so all he had to do was pick it up.. So he goes over there and she tells him they aren't done. He's a little confused, like 'just give me the cupcakes that are in the case'.. anyways, he went back to work and came back a little later to get my order. He opens the box, looks in, thinks 'whatever' and leaves.
HA!
So he comes home to take me to work and walks in with the cupcakes like any other day. I'm a little confused at this point. I ask him if he looked at them and he said yes, once again, like any other day.. So I look at him funny and ask him real slow if he looked at them.. while I open the box and hold it in front of his face :) A few seconds later he goes "ooooohhhhh!!?!! You're pregnant???"
CLASSIC :)
I will never forget that day :) We are so excited to start this new adventure!!
I love the sticker on the box "Sweet Wishes Granted" .. and this really is a sweet wish granted for us.
