Bitten

Breaking Dawn is almost here!  That's right, the fourth installment of the Twilight book series releases tomorrow (at midnight)!  For anyone who hasn't read these books, I must insist that you do.  Although they should come with an "enter at your own risk" disclaimer.  I started reading the books last summer.  A friend had suggested them to me, and at the time I didn't think much of it.  So one day I was at Borders, looking for a book that would catch my eye.  I saw a display for Twilight and I thought I would try it.  Well, I ended up staying up all night reading, and the next day I went out and bought the other two books.  I became completely engulfed in these books, every spare minute I had was spent reading.  Nick started to worry that I was loosing touch with reality.  So, the reason I am posting this today is because I will most likely spend the next few days doing nothing but reading, I am even thinking about re-reading the first three books.  So Saturday after work, I will sink into the couch, with food and drink at my fingertips as to avoid getting up, and I will be sucked back into the world of Edward and Bella.  But I promise, I will return to reality in a few days (until December 12th that is :)

Cupcakes Everywhere

So I am still taking the cake decorating classes, and have continued to bring my creations into work.  A couple classes ago, we just used the class to practice different flowers, and we didn't make a cake.  I didn't want to waste all the frosting so I decided to make some cupcakes to bring to work.  I practiced making roses and chrysanthemums to put on the cupcakes.  As usual they were a big hit at work.  So this past Thursday, my boss called me to talk about some business at the salon, and then she asked me how I was enjoying my cake classes.  I thought that that was very nice of her to be interested in what I was doing.  Well, it turned out she asked because she wanted to hire me to bake some cupcakes for a baby shower that she was throwing for a friend on Saturday.  There were going to be about 50 people at the shower.  So I agreed and started brain storming about what I would do.  Since my skills are limited at this point, I decided to make 30 cupcakes with roses and the other 30 with a new spiral technique I had learned, thinking that it would be a good way to practice.  So after about 2 hours of rose making I had to head off to work.  As soon as I got home from work, I finished my roses, baked 72 cupcakes( I only decorated 60), and started frosting.  So long story short, I was surrounded by cupcakes and frosting for a total of about 6 hours.  Frosting was everywhere and my wrist was throbbing.  But all said and done, the cupcakes turned out pretty cute, my boss was thrilled and I was able to put my new found skills to the test (and I made 50 bucks).  But I learned that I would need a better system (and a bigger kitchen) if I plan on doing anymore "catering" in the future.

Why So Serious?

Everyone, stop what you are doing, and go see the DARK KNIGHT! (WHAM!) Being that I am the biggest movie nerd in the history of movie nerds, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. (KAPOW!) Ashleigh and I went to see it on opening day and I have not been able to stop talking about it. (ZAP!) Now that I have seen it, I am not sure what to nerd out on. I guess I should focus on school, or maybe I will just see Batman again in Imax. (BAM!) Since the Dark Night build up is over, it's Ashleigh's turn to be the mayor of geekville. Twilight the movie hits theaters December 12th. So long Bruce Wayne, hello Edward and Bella.

4th of July

We had a good 4th of July this year.  I am on the activities committee at church, and we put together a barbecue for the Boulder and Flatirons wards.  The festivities included three legged races, water balloon toss, water gun fights and face painting.  One of my duties was face painting, and the little kids had a blast.  Eventually there were kids walking around with their cheeks, foreheads, arms and anywhere else they could think of, painted.  It was the perfect day to be outside and have a water fight.  This was initially intended just for the kids, but the adults decided to get involved as well.  Nick got ahold of someone's giant water gun and proceeded to squirt me in the face while I was unarmed.  After the barbecue, Nick and I decided to pick up dinner from Carrabbas, watch some 24 on dvd, and watch the Louisville fireworks from our bedroom window. Go America!
