OCC - My Favourite Card Colours

It's that time again! The OCC Challenge is up and it's to use your favourite colours on a card! What a fun challenge! It should make for some very fun colour combo's dontcha think? I chose to use Riding Hood Red and some soft buttery yellow designer papers. These colours are very rich and right up my alley as I am an earth tone girl at heart :)

I decided that it was time to do something wild and crazy for a change. Something that is almost unthinkable for me. Something that it usually monumental in my card making... I bypassed my sewing machine while creating this card. *Shocking* I know! My card actually is a 4 1/4" square, so you can imagine how tiny those little squares are. I wanted to get my card finished up earlier this evening so I managed to stroll right past my sewing machine that was glaring at me from across the room! I also managed to restrain myself from threading some of the buttons! ...might be the lack of linen thread in my possession but I can't say for sure ;)

This card has been paper toled and sponged and I also added some piercing for extra texture and interest. To see the rest of the Design Teams creations you can either pop by Our Creative Corner or click on the individual DT links below :)

Before I end this post I would like to take a minute to thank all of the OCC ladies for making my stay on the team so enjoyable :) This is my last sample as an OCC Designer as I have decided to give up my position on the team to concentrate on spending more time with my family. Spring is here and so are the many requests to go to the park, ride bikes and go camping. My little ones are determined to make me spend less time holed up in my craft room and more time enjoying the great outdoors. Please....help...me! lol

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Hero Arts Cupcakes

Accessories: Cuttlebug, Emobossing Folders, Clear Embossing Powder, Linen Thread, Buttons, Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Edge Punch, Mat Pack Piercing Tool, Distressing Tool, Sponges, Glue Dots, Dimensionals

OCC - Way to Recycle!

Time for another OCC challenge and this week in honor of Going Green we are to use something that was recycled. I recently did a Dirty Dozen Gallery that was titled Going Green so I still had a few collected recycled items laying around waiting to be used :)

This is just a short post today as I am feeling really crummy, but the netting on the lower half of my card actually came from holding plastic easter eggs (you know the ones Peter Cottentail uses to hide little chocolate eggs in). I thought it would be perfect for an under the sea themed card :)

OCC Sketch Challenge - A Yellow Rose

Where have I been? I just noticed that I haven't posted on my blog since last Saturday's OCC challenge! Crazy! I must have been busy working on my Dirty Dozen projects *wink* Our Challenge hostess Silke cooked up this sketch challenge for you all to try this week.

I must admit that I did struggle with this one...although it might actually have to do more with the fact that I completely forgot to make my OCC card until late yesterday afternoon! Oh, well! It's been one of those kind of weeks! lol

Once I figured out what stamp I was going to use on this card, I pulled out my new Tombow's to play with...they might just be my new favourite colouring medium! I am always so amazed at what you can achieve using them with very little effort (and I do mean little). For those of you who are not familiar with a Tombow marker they are a water based dual ended felt tipped marker that you can use for watercolouring or colouring directly on your stamp. These are not to be confused with Copic Markers or Prisma Markers, both of which are alcohol based and permanent (do not colour on your stamps with these as the will stain your stamps and will not transfer the ink).

This card seems a little "flat" to me. I didn't paper tole it because I wanted a simple but elegant card with the watercolouring to stand on it's own...and I cut my finger and it hurt to fiddle around with small pieces. This is what happens when I rush something...I get even more clumsier that I already am! The gold patterned paper was embossed with the Swiss Dots folder and and I have sponged all of the edges of card stock.

Don't forget to pop by Our Creative Corner and link your creation there for a chance to win some goodies :) Feel free to pop by the OCC Designers blogs for more details on their cards!

OCC Challenge - Use your favourite....

This month our new Challenge Hostess (Silke Ledlow) over at Our Creative Corner challenged us to use our favourite Easter Set! A perfect challenge for the upcoming holiday :D I chose to use a very old, retired and hard to find set called Elegant Eggs. I know that it is hard to find because it took me almost a year to get my inky little fingers on this set! I absolutely adore Faberge Eggs and this set reminded me so much of them so of course, I *needed* it! - I'm pretty sure that they are the only Faberge Eggs that I will ever get to own *grin*

Earlier this year, while at CHA I had the opportunity to take a watercolouring with Tombow Markers class taught by Jerri Jimenez (Jerri Kay). She is the sweetest lady with a taste for everything elegant and her watercolouring usually stops people in their tracks! She makes an excellent enabler too - Jerri sold me on buying the entire set of Tombow's! My markers just arrived the other day from Clear Dollar Stamps and I finally had a chance to sit down and play with them...I think I'm in love!

I decided not to do any paper tole on this card and to just the the watercolouing stand out on it's own...that and the image was much too detailed for me to even think about layering! Really! It was starting to give me a headache! lol

Enough about me babbling and onto what the rest of the OCC Designers have to show you! A little birdie told me that there is a giveaway this week so you will want to link your creation back to the OCC blog :) If you upload to SCS, please use OCCC as your keywords so that we can see what you made!

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Stampin' Up - Elegant Eggs
Paper: PTI White, Chocolate Chip, Basic Grey DP, Watercolour
Ink: Versa Mark
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug, Nestabilities, Ribbon, Kaiser Pearls, Gold Embossing Powder, Tombow Markers, Watercolour Paint Brush, Dimensionals, Sponges, Martha Stewart Scallop Punch

SC222 - Morning Glory

I am so going to regret staying up this late when I have to get my booty out of bed in a few hours to take my kiddos to preschool! I was going to write this up after I had gotten some shut eye, but decided against it at the last minute due to the earth shattering noises coming from my sleeping husband! I'm delaying the inevitable as long as possible...gotta love trying to fall asleep next to an over tired husband who I'm pretty sure can register his snores on the Richter scale!

Anyhoo, onto the card. Today is the Sketch Challenge over at SCS (SC222) and I took advantage of participating because I desperately needed a long over due Thank You card. I feel badly because this should have been in the mail a week and a half ago, but life and the flu got in the way *groan* I'm not used to doing "off kilter" cards so I'm not really sure if I like how it turned out! Maybe when I wake up in the morning it will look better to me!

I coloured the Morning Glory before I had picked out my designer papers and then realized that I really didn't have any coordinating papers. I did my best with some Basic Grey and pulled out some hoarded ribbon to add some more flair. I used one of the Button Bouquet buttons and added a half pearl from the Pretties Kit to make it a little more elegant. The main image has been watercoloured, paper tole'd and cut "out of the box" style :)

*whistles* Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to bed I go....wish me luck! lol

Card Recipe:

Stamps:
Stampin' Up - Morning Soft
Paper: PTI White, Watercolour, Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Grey DP
Ink: Basic Black, Versa Mark, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Perfect Plum, More Mustard
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug, Button, Ribbons, Sponges, Dimensionals, Scalloped Edge Punch, Aqua Painter, Re-Inkers, Pretties Kit

OCC - Colour Challenge with Chicken Soup

It's time for another challenge at Our Creative Corner. This week' s challenge was pick by yours truly and is a colour challenge. Are you ready ladies? Here are your colours: Bashful Blue, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy and a neutral of your choice. If you don't have those exact colours, don't fret! Simply choose colours that are similar and carry on with your fabulous creation :D

What came first, the chicken or the soup? *snicker* Sorry! I couldn't resist! I made this card with one of this season's new releases from Whipper Snapper Designs! This cute little fellow just happens to be one of Anna Wight's designs :)

Soooo, do you like this card? Wanna chance to win this card, and this one...oh and let's not forget this one? All you have to do is make a donation to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal to be entered in the non-raffle for a chance to win one of over 100 prizes! I donated a couple of my cards plus a stamp set and would love them to go to a generous person who is able to help out other's in need. For more info on how you can help please click here.

This Chicken Soup card has been watercoloured and paper tole'd. I coated the beak and cup n' saucer in crystal effects to give it a ceramic glazed feel and for added texture :) Let me tell you, over the past week I have been drinking a lot of this stuff! If you were by chance wondering where I have been since last Saturday, I was nursing my flu bitten kids back to health and in the meantime have been laid up with the flu bug myself! With 3 of us now on the mend my poor husband is down for the count! Hopefully all the germs will cease to exist soon!!

Card Recipe:

OCC - Sketch Challenge

It's a beautiful day for another challenge at Our Creative Corner :) I am today's host and it's a sketch challenge...I figured that you all needed a break after last week's Limited Supply Challenge *wink* You're going want to play along this week for sure because there is a giveaway!! Lori McCroskey, owner of Clear Dollar Stamps has generously donated this week's prize of $25 worth of the stamps of your own choosing :)

And since there is a big Clear Dollar Stamps prize being given away, I decided to use my CDS Thankful for You set. I paper tole'd the flowers and coloured the centers with my glitter pen so that they have the slightest of gold shimmer to it. The vase has been coated in a layer of crystal effects to give it a little bit of gloss and pizazz. *grin*

I wanted to show you my interesting ribbon treatment. I am always trying to think of different fun things to try on my cards and today's ribbon treatment was something of a happy mistake. The swirls are actually some of the long Spellbinder's Doodle Parts Dies that have been die cut, embossed and then sponged with close to cocoa ink. I was trying to arranged them on my card and it just started to look a little too busy, so I started giving them a haircut :) I arranged so that they looked like they were actually one die cut and then hid the cut off parts behind the layer of ribbon. I really wanted this card to be feminine, so I added the gemstone brad to the center of my metal filigree flower.

So now that you have seen my card and know that there is a lucrative giveaway, please check out what the OCC girls have put together for you :) For all the info on how to enter the contest please visit Our Creative Corner!

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Thankful for You
Paper: PTI White, Close to Cocoa, Watercolour, My Mind's Eye DP, Basic Grey DP

Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug, Nestablilities and Doodle Part Dies, Scallop Edge Punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Aqua Painter, Re-Inkers, Dimensionals, Sponges, Ribbon, Filigree Brads, Gemstone Brads, Crystal Effects

OCCC - Limited in Every Way....

It's Saturday today and that means another challenge for you at Our Creative Corner! This week's challenge was thought of none other than me and that means that you get to place all the blame right here! lol This week's challenge is a Limited Supply Challenge and the rules were to use a maximum of 3 layers of paper, 1 type of embellishment and your stamps (sentiments are optional). I'm a big 'ol meanie! Bwahahaha!

So let me just explain that when I thought of the challenge I figured that it was a great idea because everybody loves a good challenge right? Then I sat down to make up my sample and...um...well...it was harder than I thought it was going to be! lol This card actually took me longer to make than some of my other more detailed cards that have been paper tole'd and sewn on! Remind me never to post this kind of challenge again! lol

So are you wondering about my card? Let me explain my layers. The base of my card is watercolour paper that has been masked and then inked with Not Quite Navy ink to make it look like another layer of paper. The next layer is my designer paper that has been sponged like no other. I have sponged around the edges, masked, sponged and stamped the rectangle and then masked off the scalloped circle. I then cut out my inner circle with my nestabilities so that I would have a "window" that would show you my original base layer of watercolour paper. The flowers and butterfly have been stamped right onto my base layer, coloured and then sponged. I then glued my designer paper to my base. My third and final layer of paper is the popped up butterfly :)

You can see from this picture the slight colour variance from where the inks overlapped each other to create darker areas when I masked off the shapes. See this pretty bow? I learned how to make it from a very helpful tutorial that Kittie Caracciolo posted on her blog :) Thanks Kittie!
You can also tell by this photo that I added some raised lines around the perimeter of my designer paper with my score pal - such fun!

Are you ready to give this interesting challenge a try? You can stop by the OCC for all the details and you can see what the other girls made for you to feast your eyes upon here:

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps (Beautiful Butterflies), Inkadinkado, Essence of Love

Accessories: Cuttlebug, Nestablilities, Taffeta Ribbon, Clear Embossing Powder, Score Pal, Sponges, White Embossing Powder

OCC - Add a Doodle

This weeks challenge at the OCC is to add a doodle! Yes ladies, that does mean pull out some pens and start to scribble, or use a doodley stamp or a doodle chipboard...the possibilities are endless! We would love it if you would link your creation back to Our Creative Corner so that we can see your wonderful creations :) If you are uploading your card to SCS, then please use the letters OCCC in the keyword box so that it automatically loads into the OCC gallery there.

March usually brings change and it sure has at the OCC. Some of the girls have moved on to other commitments and we wish them the best of luck, but will miss them deeply :) With that said...we have some surprises for this month over at Our Creative Corner. We have welcomed 5 new girls to the design team! Please help me extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the OCC:

Now for some info about my card :) I used my new stamp from Whipper Snapper Designs to make this card. I love this particular stamp because every time I look at it, he makes me laugh! The sentiment was computer generated and then cut out with my word window punch. I choose to use the sketch from this weeks mojo challenge and I actually made a regular A2 sized card! Whoa, nelly! I can't even remember the last time I made a card that size!

My main image is watercoloured and then the jar part was coated in crystal effects. I added some texture by embossing some of the designer paper, stitching with my sewing machine, adding eyelets and adding hemp twine with some knots for some fun.

Just a reminder about my 100,000 hit blog candy! If you haven't already entered to win it, you can do so here.

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Whipper Snapper Designs
Paper: PTI White, Basic Grey CS, Basic Grey Granola DP, Watercolour
Ink: Basic Black, Versa Mark, Baja Breeze, Creamy Caramel, More Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Basic Grey, Bordering Blue
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug and Embossing Folders, Crystal Effects, Eyelets, Hemp Twine, Dimensionals, Sponges, Re-Inkers, Aqua Painter, Corner Rounder Punch, Word Window Punch, Computer Generated Sentiment

OCC - A Rosey Sketch

We have a fun sketch challenge for you over at Our Creative Corner! This month's hostess Laurie Schmidlin selected this beautiful sketch for us to play around with, and as usual, I tampered with mine! It accidentally got flipped upside down...well, maybe not so accidentally *grin*

I combined 2 Stampin' Up! sets to created the images for this card. The sentiment is from the Morning Soft set and I decided to try another non-colouring card with A Rose is a Rose. I bought both of these sets last year and I haven't had many opportunities to use them *pout* I wanted to paper tole the roses so I chose to use 140lb cold press watercolour paper because it is nice and heavy and it doesn't bend easily.

I'm really quite taken with how this card turned out! I was a little skeered at first because I don't generally use a lot of images that don't require colouring, but these had just enough detail in them for the card :) I'm loving the Bella Rose DP too...wish I had ordered more of it!

We would like to invite you all to play along with Laurie's sketch and there is a wonderful prize to be drawn! OCC's very own Jennifer Meyer just opened up a brand new stamp company called Stamps and Smiles and she is sponsoring our prize this week with one of her own stamp sets!! Be sure to check out the blog for details and pop by the links below to get all the deets on the design team's samples :)

Card Recipe:

Stamps: A Rose is a Rose, Morning Soft
Paper: PTI White, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Watercolour, Bella Rose DP, K&Co DP
Ink: Versa Mark, Basic Black, Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug, Nestablilities, Buttons, Pearls, Sponges, Dimensionals, Sizzix Sizzlet, Scallop Edge Punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Clear Embossing Powder

OCC - Tag Challenge

Today's challenge over at the Our Creative Corner Blog is to use any sort of tag on your card. The tag can be large or small and it doesn't have to be the focal point of the card if you don't want it to be :) I decided to go with the Spellbinder's Tag Dies because I needed something that attached across the width of my card.

I pulled out my Pressed Petals set from Artful INKables and borrowed this sweet sentiment to go with my new Hollyhock Bittybloom by Stamping Bella. I adore the sentiment and thought that it fit very nicely with my bella :)

I added some dimension to this little cutie pie by popping her up and added an "out of the box" balloon with some crystal effects for shine. The image has been watercoloured with an aqua painter and some of my re-inkers in various shades.

Pardon me while I keep this post incredibly short. It's very late here and I am off to bed after prepping 56 cards for 2 card classes that I am teaching. My hands hurt from cutting up so much paper...you know me...I can't just leave it at one or two layers! lol

Don't forget to pop by to see what the the rest of the OCC DT has created just for you :)

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Stamping Bella, Artful INKables
Paper: PTI White, Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla, Watercolour, 29th Street & Scenic Route DP
Ink: Basic Black, Versa Mark, So Saffron, More Mustard, Creamy Caramel, Always Artichoke

OCC - Sketched Valentine Challenge

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope that you all enjoy your day get spoiled by your special someone :)

Today the challenge over at Our Creative Corner blog is a sketch challenge provided to us by our very own Laurie Schmidlin. The sketch was only half of the challenge! Because today is Valentine's Day we were to mail our card off to someone special....so one lucky person is going to be receiving this sweet Valentine :)...Oh and it already went postal earlier in the week *wink*

I decided to try something a little different with the sketch. I ended up flipping the design upside down to fit with my Whipper Snapper Bear Hugs set. I needed the comment bubble on the right hand side so of course the whole card had to be reversed to fit. Apparently I like to make things more difficult than they need to be! lol

Isn't this little bear cute? He's been accented with Pink Pirouette and Rose Red to fit right in with my new Bittersweet Basic Grey Collection that's perfect for Valentine's Day! I just love this paper with it's hint of soft pinks. Mmm...pinks and browns, it has sweetness written all over it *wink*

We would love for you to participate in this week's challenge, so just pop by the OCC Blog to see the sketch and when your done your card pop back in a leave a direct link to your blog or gallery so that we can take a peek too! If you are uploading your challenge card to SCS then don't forget to add OCCC into your keywords :) Now that I'm done babbling, click over to see this week's guest designer Tosh Leyendekker's card and all of the fabulous samples that the OCC Design Team has come up with :)

Sweet Morning Glory

I was leafing through my photo archives and found this sweet Morning Glory card that I haven't posted yet, so here it is :) I made this card last summer not long after the "Morning Soft" set was was released. I was so excited when I finally got this set that I ripped open the box, grabbed the stamp set and went to town...I left the box with the rest of my Stampin' Up! order still sitting in my entry way...in the middle of the floor....ask Bill...he tripped over it when he opened the door after picking up the kids from preschool! *chuckle*

I purchased this set not long after it came out and used my markers to watercolour it with. Like most of my cards, the image was embossed, watercoloured and paper toled. I added these sweet gemstone brads to the center of the flowers, just because I could *wink*

The pretty paper border along the side is a Fisgars embossing punch that I used on some vellum cardstock and I created the overly large photo corner by drawing it up free hand. I also got a chance to play with my new Stylized Silver Hodgepodge Hardware :) Ahh, I {heart} embellishments! They make me happy! *grin*

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Morning Soft
Paper: PTI White, Bazzil Bling, Soft Sky, Watercolour, Vellum, K&Co. DP, Always Artichoke
Ink: Basic Black, Versa Mark, Soft Sky, Always Artichoke, Perfect Plum, Regal Rose, SU Markers
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Fisgars Border Punch, Dimensionals, Sponges, Hodgepodge Hardware, Gemstone Brads, Aqua Painter
