PALM SUNDAY

YUP. EASTER IS NEXT WEEK

Which means that those who gave up something for Lent are nearing the end of their endurance.

METEOR CRATER IN NH?
Full story
The only question that bothers me is when did it happen? New England is hard granite, having been scoured by assorted ice ages. Ask any farmer in New Hampshire and he'll tell you that his most abundant crop is rocks. Every year, massive amounts of glacial debris is forced to the surface in the Spring. If the crater is from a meteor, it had to have occurred within the last 10-13 thousand years. Prior to that it would have been erased from the face of the planet. Prior to that the ice sheet was a couple of miles thick. It'll be interesting to see what develops from this. Using the size of the nearby buildings as a guide, this isn't a very big crater.

I must vacate my place for a few hours this morning. Its time to "bomb" the house for creepy crawlies. This is something that must be done every 1 to 2 years. No matter how tidy you are in the tropics, dem critters always come back. There is not a structure on the island that doesn't suffer from this. My kitty, Bear, will go into the storage shed and I'll hang out in the hammock in the front yard or under the canopy covered picnic table in the back. Have to be gone for 3 hours and then let the place air out for another hour.

We'll be picking up dead (or dying) bugs for the next week or so.

Thanks to Lugosi for posting this at Mirth, Musings & More yesterday

George pretty well sums up my feelings.

Enjoy your Sunday. And if you live in Dublin, you had better start stocking up on booze. You know why. Another place where religion runs the country.

BEWARE...

THE IDES OF MARCH

I had promised to at least post THE PICTURE GALLERY, even if I was going to be late with everything else. Turns out there are minor issues about doing that. See, if I fall asleep before midnight, there won't be a simple post. And if I am asleep, there won't be a simple post. The problem is that , unless I start "sleep posting", there is no way to make a post when I am sawing logs. I am going to have to work on this.

Unless things drastically change, we probably won't go to war with Iran. At least not during Dubya's shift. Why? Because the logistics just aren't in place to do it.

Look how long it took to get a minimal amount of troops on the ground in Afghanistan and how much longer for Iraq. Amateurs talk about "tactics", professionals talk about "logistics". Besides, an attack on Iran would set off the fuse that most of the Islamic world is waiting for. This would become a global Jihad and no modern nation is capable of dealing with massive guerrilla attacks on their own soil. There aren't enough cops, or soildiers to be everywhere at once. The Nazi's learned this in France, we learned it in Vietnam. Certain hawkish elements in the Bush Administation haven't. Which is one of the reasons that Adm. Fallon was not discouraged from retiring by the end of this month. He had the guts to tell everyone that the "Emperor had no clothes".

So, what are your plans for the weekend? Plan to do anything, that you'll remember, for St. Paddy's Day?

Enjoy yourselve's.

POKE FUN AT MUHAMMAD

AND GET YOUR ASS SUED

In some countries, this might work. Here in America, we make jest of every religion, especially Mormons, Catholics, Jews. Thats just the way Americans are.

I enjoy people who are spiritual but can't stand those who are religious. There is a big difference.

Wasn't it Muhammad that said:
"Speak loudly and carry a big sword."
Maybe the Queen of Hearts was an Islamist. I mean, where else did she come up with the phrase:
"Off with their heads!"
Just my 2-cents worth.

THE NUTS & BOLTS...

OF DAILY LIFE

Mau'i makes the news, again. And again.

They don't mention that a box of Cheerios goes for about $8 or that generic sliced white bread is $3.50 a loaf. National brands go for $1 more, at least.

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE:

Planet Of The Apes
This is the remake starring Mark Wahlberg. Many disliked this version but it does follow the original book. The first version did not.

Question for my readers from outside the USA. Can you view this if you use an anonymous proxy server?

Television ads do whet your appetite. We don't have Chili's, Applebee's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, TGI Fridays, and a multitude of other "national" chain restaurants, here on my island. But we do get to watch their ads on national TV. If the food only tastes half as good as it looks, I am missing a lot.

There is a good chance I'll be back with more crap later today. Check back. If not, I'll see you tomorrow.

HONEST ABE

GETS A "MAKEOVER"

The Treasury Department started circulating the new $5 bills today. This one's color scheme will be purple and gray. STORY

The way gas prices are going, it'll take a lot of the bank notes to fill the tank. People are cutting back on other expenditures so they can afford to go to work.

HULU.COM

IS "ON THE AIR"

Turns out that you can also embed their programming into your blog/website.

Here is the animated sci-fi feature film Titan, AE, with limited commercial interruption. It has a pretty good cast. It is also a very smooth blend of CGI and Cel animation

If you would like to watch this feature in "full screen", just click this link and then "mouseover" the dark area at the top of the page. A series of buttons will appear on both sides of the viewing area. Select the one that says FULL SCREEN. Then sit back and enjoy. You can also select options like "Hi-Res".

As some of you know, I am an avid sci-fi fan.

SHE'S CHANGED...

BUT THE YEARS HAVE BEEN KIND

So, "Mary Ann" (Dawn Wells, 69) was/is a "stoner". If I had spent as much time on a desert island as she did, I think I would be too.

I recently mentioned about what would happen if man disappeared from Earth. The only remnants of humanity would be what was left on the moon. Well, that is on someone's agenda already.

Received this from my son yesterday

A politician involved with a prostitute? How quaint. So what else is new. Hell, now-a-days a big deal is made about all the different houses that George Washington slept in during the revolution. I am sure he wasn't always alone. I forget which James Spader movie it came from but I always loved this one line:
"The only two things that can kill a politician's career is getting caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."

Well, its "hump day". We are half way through the week.

See ya tomorrow.
