Industrial Vignettes #4 - Gold Mirror Gallery Wall

This wall has been planned for months...at least the idea of it; mostly vintage (or faux vintage) gilded framed mirrors...except for a few key items.

Such as the numbers I have been collecting for years. (I have been so happy to feature some of my favorite scripture as a way to use them!)

Anyone know this reference? 14...6? It was the one that got this woman on the right path.

My gilded M is from TJ Maxx years ago...antlers were from a friend years ago. The two larger mirrors on either side were some of my first purchases when moving into my home 12 years ago. The others are from thrift stores here and there...some are vintage, some are not. Some I toned down with a wash of greige paint. Some are picture frames with faux vintage glass made with Krylon Looking Glass paint.

Getting things spaced properly and level is the hardest thing about a gallery wall. I use a combination of measuring and eyeballing, with a healthy dose of patching nail-holes-gone-wrong.

This is the first thing you see when you walk into my living room...sort of. It feels good to get it finished!

I still have plenty to do in this room...paint the French chairs, style the desk and primitive hutch on the opposite side of the room, and figure out how to make a coffee table from the crates I found last month. First, the mantel needs tweaking...

Word for the Day:
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Industrial Living Room Vignette #3 - The Left Side Shelf

Opposite the Psalm 91 corner shelf, past the mantel, is another shelf.
The top shelves of both shelves have an architectural wood piece, vintage books and finials in shades of white.

The second shelf contains similar elements to the opposite shelf...

A photograph of Ethan, a small white finial, a vase with a moss ball, my 3 box and a vintage Brownie box camera. An artist figure stands in front of boxes wrapped with Bible pages. There is another Bible verse reference using numbers in a different way...I'm really enjoying this part of the revision! Everything except the artist figure is from a thrift store.

The shelf below holds a vintage wire basket with deconstructed books. A chalkboard tray and rusty wheel add texture. My vintage M from Donna hangs above glass containers of board game pieces, and a small antler.
Everything on this shelf is from a thrift store, except the M from Donna. (I'm sure she bought it somewhere good...it's vintage.)

Even the antler was from a garage sale. :)
I'm sure you've guessed my scripture reference...it is one of the most well loved scriptures of all time!

Word for the Day:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Satisfaction in Small Doses: A Revised Pillow and Mirror

Sometimes, you just need the satisfaction of a quick project or two...especially in the middle of a longer project.

Today, I got a couple of small doses of satisfaction by taking a few minutes to do two quick projects.

Dose #1: Hand Stitching Trim

Subject: an existing pillow I picked up at the thrift store a few weeks back.

Time required: 15 minutes

Here's an after shot...

A before shot:

It had tassels...snip...snip...snip...snip.

But it cost a buck, and the fabric was right and the size was right...
So a spool of twill ribbon from Hobby Lobby was all I needed.

I like it much better.

I left the old trim on...lazy, but hey, it works.

A dollar pillow and a $3 spool of ribbon (should have remembered my coupon.) 15 minutes while watching "Midsomer Murders." Not bad.

Dose #2: The Rub 'N' Buff Treatment

Subject: a mirror I found last week at a thrift store last week.

Time required: 5 minutes

It was a a wood tone...I thought it was wood, but it is resin.  I thought I had a before photo, but no. Oops.

Working on my Major Gallery Wall today...behind the sofa. So far, so good.

Word for the Day:
1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Thrifty Life Thursday #37 with Features from Last Week!

My next projects...two French chairs.

Any sewing people want to barter to make drop cloth
slip covers for the two chairs below? (Just the seat part.)

I have lots of fun junk to trade for your sewing skills...just let me know.

This week's features from last week's party:

Sharon from The Blue Willow House shared some very cool thrifty treasures, and the one that caught my eye was a brass barrel side table.
(I just saw a similar one at chairish.com) Of course, she had to put some elbow grease into it (and gold rub'n buff) to get it to look like the photo below...but it was a great deal.

Brass Stool foyer

Erica and Hanna from The Adventures of Two (Pyrex Crazy) Thrifting Sisters shared a boat load of vintage mostly kitchen goodness. I learned more about Pyrex while visiting them...always a good thing to know your vintage stuff if you frequent thrift stores! Thanks, ladies.

Jann from Have a Daily Cup of Mrs. Olson shared her fall front porch, which is chock full of great ideas and fall vignettes. She uses her vintage goodies in all of them in very creative ways. It was hard to decide what photo to use!

      24
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some,
but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see
      the Day drawing near.
