Gambling Raid: Sixteen Arrested, Rs. 2,783 / seized

On 16/04/2007 at 1700 hrs on credible information PI Surathkal PS along with his staff conducted a raid on public place near Sharada compound at Surathkal Idya village Mangalore Taluk. At the time of raid Police found 16 persons were found playing “Ander - Bahar” with cards. The Police seized cash Rs. 2,783/ and playing cards from the spot by arresting Moosa @ Cheriyan, Narayana Shetty Katipalla, Ramesha Bangera Mukka, Hasan Bajal, Selvester D’Souza, Donald, Vijaya Karkera Mukka, Deepak Katipalla, Narayana Palimar, Shankara Moolya Katipalla, Kumar M.B. Madya, Bashir Haleyangady, Sathish Kulaigudde, Lingappa Mukka, Usman Katipalla and Sundara Padupadavu who were indulging in gambling.

In this connection, a case has been registered against the arrested persons in Surathakal PS U/s 87 of the Karnataka Police Act.

No. KA-19-AC-4559 drove his vehicle in rash and negligent manner and dashed against another bus bearing Reg. No. KA-20-8163. As a result Victor Pinto (34) R/o Mooduperara village Mangalore Taluk, Dayananda, Premalatha, Koraga, Prashantha, Sundara, Vittal Shetty and Vaibhav who were traveling in the bus bearing Reg. No. KA-19-AC-4559 sustained grievous injuries and both the vehicles got damaged.

As a result scooter rider one Venkatesh Kanaka (53) R/o Yelluru village Udupi district sustained simple injuries. The scooter also got damaged.

As a result one Iqbal (25) R/o Lalia village Ujire village a cleaner of said lorry sustained simple injuries. The lorry driver escaped from the place with his vehicle.

• A case of Unnatural Death Report has been registered in Ullal Police Station. In between 12/04/2007 and 14/04/2007 one Vijaya D’ Souza (34) R/o Maniyampade Yenmakaje village committed suicide by consuming poison in his house owing to personal problem.
  
• A case of Unnatural Death Report has been registered in Venoor Police Station. On 08/04/2007 at 1000 hrs one Poulin (60) R/o Baidarlagudde Naravi village attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself owing to personal problem. She got serious burn injuries and was admitted to Wenlock hospital at Mangalore where she succumbed to her injuries while under treatment on 14/04/2007 at 1600 hrs.

• A case of Unnatural Death Report has been registered in Puttur Town Police Station. On 14/04/2007 at 1645 hrs one Prakash (18) R/o Padnur village Puttur Taluk while playing at Kodange Padnur village Puttur Taluk due to heavy lighting he got electrocuted and died.

• A case of Man missing has been registered in Bantwal Town Police Station. One Shivananda (30) R/o Chikkayya Mata Bantwla Town went to Baikampady Mangalore on 13/04/2007 at 0600 hrs and did not return to his house there after. He has been found missing since then.

On 12/04/2007 at 1700 hrs on NH 48 at Periyashanthi Kowkardy village Puttur Taluk one Prashanth Raj driver of bus bearing Reg. No. KA-01-F-8261 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against a Bajaj M-80 scooter bearing Reg. No. KA-19-M-8119. Further the bus driver lost control over his vehicle due which the bus capsized. As a result scooter rider Vittal Shetty and pillion rider Sunandha sustained serious injuries where in Vittal Shetty died on the spot and some passengers who were traveling in the said bus also sustained simple injuries.

The said Alfas was seriously injured by a Tipper Lorry in a road traffic accident on 10/04/2007 at 0830 hrs at Gurupura Mulur village Mangalore Taluk and admitted to the hospital at Mangalore. On 11/04/2007 at 1715 hrs at Lingappayyakadu Karnadu village Mangalore Taluk one Mohammed Shafi driver of auto rickshaw bearing Reg. No. KA-19-B-5479 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against one Nagaraja (06) R/o Karnadu village Mangalore Taluk a pedestrian and caused him serious injuries. Further he succumbed to his injuries while on the way to hospital.

Further he was admitted to the hospital at Mangalore where he was declared dead while under treatment.

On 11/04/2007 at 2000 hrs one unknown male dead body aged about 50 yrs was found in Arabian sea near Baraka Factory at Ullal Mangalore Taluk. It seems to be a case of drowning. Rao (61) R/o Kere Mane Manchi village Bantwal Taluk by breaking the front door lock and committed theft of gold ornaments and cash Rs. 3,500/ all in worth Rs. 27,000/.

• A case under Burglary has been registered in Bantwal Rural Police Station. On the intervening night of 10-11/04/2007 some unknown culprits gained entry into the house belonging to one Khatheejamma (32) w/o Abdul Hameed Kukkaje Manchi village Bantwal Taluk by breaking the back door lock and committed theft of gold ornaments. The stolen property is worth Rs. 1,44,000/.

• A case of Non Fatal Road accident has been registered in Mangalore North Police Station. On 10/04/2007 at 1215 hrs near Krishna Bhavan circle at Mangalore one unknown driver of bus bearing Reg. No. KA-20-4455 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against a Maruti Alto car bearing Reg. No. KA-19-P-8481. As a result the car got damaged. No casualties reported. The bus driver escaped from the place without stopping his vehicle.
  
• A case of Non Fatal Road accident has been registered in Bajpe Police Station. On 10/04/2007 at 0830 hrs at Gurupura Mulur village Mangalore Taluk one driver of Tipper lorry bearing Reg. No. KA-28-5229 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against another Tipper Lorry bearing Reg. No. KA-35-1460. Further the driver of Tipper lorry bearing Reg. No. KA-28-5229 lost control over his vehicle and dashed to a car bearing Reg. No. KA-19-MF-988, a Maruti car bearing Reg. No. KA-21-N-7786 and another car bearing Reg. No. KA-21-N-7786 due which the said Tipper and the Maruti car capsized. As a result one Madhava S.N. driver of Maruti car bearing Reg. KA-21-N-7786 and cleaner of the Tipper lorry sustained grievous injuries.

No. KA-19-B-6683 fell down from the bus and sustained simple injuries while getting down as the driver of the bus one Lawrence Ronald Pinto moved the bus in a negligent manner.

On 10/04/2007 one Mary (36) who working as housemaid at the house belonging to one Sathish Rao C/o Padma complex Bantwal Taluk was suffering from fever and was admitted to Govt. hospital at Bantwal Taluk. As her condition deteriorated, she was being shifted for further treatment to Wenlock hospital Mangalore. However she breathed her last enroute.
  
• A case of Unnatural Death Report has been registered in Kadaba Police Station. In between 09/04/2007 at 1000 hrs and 10/04/2007 at 0600 hrs one Suresha (25) R/o Perabe village Puttur Taluk committed suicide by hanging in his house owing to personal problem.

• A case under Murder has been registered in Vittal Police Station. On 09/04/2007 at 1430 hrs a dead body of one Anni Poojary R/o Nirkaje house Kepu village Bantwal Taluk was found in his house. As the dead body was having some injury marks on the body, some foul play has been suspected. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased had enimity with the local people. However the exact cause or motive for the offence is still to be ascertained.

On 06/04/2007 at 1930 hrs near K.P.T Mangalore one unknown motorcycle rider drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against another motorcycle bearing Reg. No. KA-19-L-8788 driven by one Manohara A.P. (43) R/o Padavinangady Mangalore Taluk. As a result Manohara A.P rider of said motorcycle bearing Reg. No KA-19-L-8788 sustained simple injuries. The other motorcycle rider escaped from the place without stopping his vehicle.

No. KA-12-M-655 on 05/03/2007 at 0600 hrs and did not return to his house there after. He has been found missing since then.

Arrack sachets seized by Kadaba Police

On 06/04/2007 at 1230 hrs on credible information PSI Kadaba PS along with staff conducted raid on shop at Rajatha complex Yeladka Kaniyoor village Puttur Taluk and seized 110 arrack sachets (each 100 ML) that were stored illegally there for sale by arresting one Chandrashekara Gowda (32) R/o Navoor Kaniyuur village Puttur Taluk.

The total value of seized property is worth Rs. 1,600/.

In this connection, a case has been registered in Kadaba Police Station under the Karnataka Excise Act.

• A case of Servant theft has been registered in Mangalore South Police Station. On 05/04/2007 at 1930 hrs at Falnir Mangalore one Vijay Kumar who was working as a driver of car belonging to one U.K Monu, President of Kanachur Group of Society Deralakatte Mangalore Taluk committed theft of cash Rs. 2,00,000/ and other documents kept in the the owners car.
  
• A case of Ordinary Theft has been registered in Urwa Police Station. On 05/04/2007 at 1515 hrs on credible information PI DCIB apprehended three persons viz. Sudharshan (23) R/o Haleyangady Mangalore Taluk, Nagaraja (20) R/o Haleyangady Mangalore Taluk and Jagadish Shet (42) R/o Sagar Shimoga district who were found trying to sell stolen gold ornaments. It is learnt that the gold ornaments have been stolen somewhere else. Accordingly a case has been registered in Urwa PS and gold ornaments seized. The seized gold ornaments are worth Rs.80,000/.

• A case of Fatal Road accident has been registered in Bajpe Police Station. On 05/04/2007 at 1730 hrs in front of Popular farm Maravoor village Mangalore Taluk one Swamy driver of Tipper lorry bearing Reg. No. KA-13-4342 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against another lorry bearing Reg. No. MEG-1843 due which driver of Tipper lorry lost control over his vehicle and dashed against a Maruti Omni car bearing Reg. No. KA-19-P-6385 and a motorcycle bearing Reg. No.KA-19-U-7206 that was behind lorry due which Tipper lorry and Maruti omni car capsized. As a result Suresh (54) R/o Munnur village Mangalore Taluk driver of Maruti omni car sustained grievous injuries. Further Sabitha @ Rama (55) R/o Munnur village Mangalore Taluk, Shaila, Mamatha, Danush, Savin, Rakshitha and Pavan who were traveling in the said Maruti omni car also sustained simple injuries. Of these Suresh succumbed to his injuries while under treatment on same day.

No. CNX-8524 drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against one Dheeraj U.K (25) R/o Vogga post Bantwal Taluk a pedestrian and caused him simple injuries. The motorcycle rider escaped from the spot without stopping his vehicle.

The following are the crimes reported in D.K. District during the last 24 hrs as at 1600 hrs on 04/04/2007.

Murder: 01

• A case under Murder has been registered in Belthangady Police Station. On 31/03/2007 dead body of one Rama (18) R/o Puduvettu village Belthangady Taluk was found in Neriya River at Puduvettu village Belthangady Taluk. As there was some suspicion regarding the cause of death, it was taken as death under suspicious circumstances and investigation taken up. During course of this investigation, it was revealed that the deceased Rama was actually strangulated by his friend Tiruma R/o Puduvettu village Belthangady taluk in a drunken brawl. Hence the case has been altered to that of Murder. The said Tiruma has also been arrested. .

As a result motorcycle rider one Nooruddin R/o Uppala Kasaragod district Kerala State sustained grievous injuries and succumbed to his injuries while on the way to hospital. The alleged incident has occured in the year 2005 where in accused one Sigbathalla Shareef @ Shareef took a Rs. 6,00,000 advance amount from Vishnumurthy for sanctioning a loan of 10 cores from Al-Amin Investments. Later he cheated the complainant by not sanctioning the loan and by not returning the advance amount either.
