Pages I did for a comic anthology for classic literature. You probably guessed that I got the poem Kubla Kahn. You guessed right.

Sculpt I did in Sculptris, free software from Pixologic.

Sketch for fun. It's also a birthday sketch for a friend, Tim McCrackin (no, not the one from the movie Slapshot (obscure reference)).

I fixed the tree-demon dude (odd perspective in the previous post), and I painted-up one of my other drawings (duh). Makes me want to paint more!

I liked the face of the snake demon sketch my girlfriend helped art direct me on, so I did a close-up study of his face. He's become more of a straight-up tree demon, but I'm fond of the result. :)

So here are a couple of new sketches. I started them on the 7 hour flight home from seeing my girlfriend in the UK. They were actually mostly finished on the flight, but you can only get so much detail as a 300+ lbs giant hunched over in a cramped, slightly turbulent space. I did the rest of it at my desk at work. I like both of these guys (all 3, if you count the forehead of the 2nd piece).

Sketch my girlfriend art directed me on. :) I love her for zillions of reasons, but a big one is that she takes an active interest in my art, and loves my dark stuff! Epic win!

Notice 2 of them are the front and back covers of a book. It's a sketchbook I recently bought that allows you to draw on the covers as well as the pages within. NEAT-OH.

Here are 2 new pieces. They both deserve to be revisited I think. I'll post here so I'm reminded of that. The aquatic "eye" piece is one I'd really like to flesh out. Hmm... ideas?

This was inspired by yesterday's visit to The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History... and a bit of a dream I woke to this morning.

Did another one today. Started at lunch and finished tonight. Sorry if it's too deliriously upbeat.

10 new sketchbook pieces I've done over the past couple weeks.

Did the fish-looking guy for an art trade. I got a wicked sculpture in return. I'll have to remember to photograph and upload it.

The baby is the result of an idea I had when I was thinking of cramming to finish "The Punisher" theme last night for DrawerGeeks.com. Frank Castle as a brooding infant, already holding criminals in contempt.

Here's what I finished up today... I noodled away on this longer than anticipated. It was fun, but I wish I had designed it at least a little bit instead of running with random shapes entirely. Still, here's a creepy bugger I can be fond of.

These two are for a forum activity called "Draw My Character." Simply put, you draw a creature someone else has drawn, with your own spin on it, then draw another creature for the next artist to do the same, rinse & repeat. You can see the critter another artist drew that I redrew, then the last image is the creature I drew for the next artist to take on. Hope that all made sense. If not, tough luck. I'm too lazy to fix my explanation.

More from my sketchbook. Went a little heavier with the Photoshop "enhancin" on this one.

Monday, August 10, 2009

Went to a coffee shop at Borders with a friend yesterday and started this one. I finished it on his couch, watching a movie. This went quickly, which is why it's not particularly inspired, but he was still quite a bit of fun. I have an idea for a new one. Can't wait to get started. :)

Just having some more fun with the marker washes/pencil/pro-white. Snuggly little guy.

Got another one done last night. Title: "Decoded"

This guy is much closer to what I've been shooting for in style. Man, progress feels good.
