9.25.08 - 3/D, 4/D sonogram attempt

So today I had my gestational diabetes test. I was given an orange drink (tasted like flat orange soda) and then had my blood taken an hour later. They are going to check for anemia, gestational diabetes and something else that I can't remember. All went well.

However, silly me scheduled to have a 3/D, 4/D sonogram done 3 hours later. The sonogram tech said either Aiden will be hyper or asleep from the sugar crash but she could make it work. So, I went for it.

Mike, mom and a good friend from church Chris and her 3 girls (who by the way are loving this whole baby thing) came for the sonogram. Aiden kept his hand near his mouth and kept covering his face with the other one. The tech tried everything to make him more. He would kick, but that was it. Then we got a 1 second glimpse of his face and he looked like he was crying. She said she could tell he was sleeping and did not like being poked and prodded...my sweet baby.

So, in the end, we got a picture that showed him being upset and a refund. We are going to go back to do it on October 8th. NO SUGAR for me that day...well, unless ice cream just happens to fall into my mouth and into my tummy. = )

Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk

I just wanted to say how proud I am of my 2 sister-in-laws; Meg and Susan. They are currently participating in the 60 mile, 3 day walk for Breast Cancer. They have been training for this for awhile and Mike and I wish we could fly out there just to cheer them on.

Way to go Susan and Meg! We are so proud of you!!

9.09.08 Meeting the President

The President came to the Department of the Interior to visit with the Secretary. Many colleagues were able to shake his hand and have a great experience meeting him. I was one of them. I was invited, among others, to greet him.

Secret Service asked all of us to keep our hands out of our pockets. Since I didn't have any pockets, I just kept mine on my God-given prego shelf. The President started shaking hands and when he got to me, it was funny, he immediately looked at my tummy and gave a smile. He asked me all kinds of questions about when I was due, what baby this was for me, etc.. I told him I was due at Christmas and he said that babies are such a blessing. I told him I agreed and proceeded to tell him that while he will be opening presents at Chrsitmas, I will be pushing. He smiled and laughed. It was a great experience and I am happy Aiden was able to be a part of it. Even though he was in the tummy, he made it very clear how happy he was. He became extremely active...which was neat because he had been not as active over the past couple of days.

Me at 25 weeks pregnant!

OK, so I knew I was getting bigger...my waddle has turned almost duck-like, especially at evening time, but I had NO idea I was this big until mom took a picture of me. Holy cow, batman, no wonder it has been harder to tie my shoes!

The nursery

Of course, seeing as I knew I was having a boy before they told me, I already had an idea of how I wanted to paint the nursery. I wanted someting he could grow up into and since we live near Annapolis, a sail boat/nautica theme seemed perfect. So, here is the nursery as it stands. I am very pleased with how the stripes came out. Oh, did I mention that it took me 5 hours just to tape it for the stripes. It was worth it.

Here is the Nautica kids crib bedding. It is perfect and quite adorable, I think.

The day we found out it was a BOY!

I have to admit to you that I knew I was having a boy the entire time I was pregnant. I can't explain how I knew other than I knew. We had Ryan with us for the month of July. It was great. He did so many cute things. One day I was talking to Nana (my mom) and she told me to tell Ryan that the baby had ears so he should talk to him/her. I told Ryan that and that was the day he began talking right into my tummy and reporting back to Mike and I what the baby said. Apparently, the baby told him he/she was 6 weeks old one time.

I will say, however, that one of the cutest moments was when I was laying back in the recliner with Ryan cuddled next to me. He turned to me and told me to open my mouth so he could talk to the baby - apparently, that is the only way the baby can hear a person's voice. Now is that cute or what?!

Fast forward to the 31st. Mom drove up and we all went to Annapolis to find out what we were having. She took a picture of us before we all hopped into the van.

Here is us in the lobby waiting to go back. I was SOOO excited!

Here is when we found out we were having a boy. You can see how excited Ryan was.

Apparently, sonogram gel is fun for future big brothers to play with. = )

Here is the sonogram where we can see our precious son. His name is Aiden Michael Libby.

First day of blogging...EVER!

I have been wanting to do this for a long time. I want our family and friends to be able to know what's going on in the Libby world. I am going to make an attempt to post some photos and sonograms of the time so far during my pregnancy. Should be fun.

So, let's start with some sonograms of baby Aiden. The first two are from Shady Grove Fertility Center. They had very detailed equipment and the others that follow are from Annapolis OB-GYN.

This one was done on 5-2-08, when I was 6 weeks pregnant.

This one was done on 5-16-08. The doctor told us he/she would look like a gummie bear... He was right.

These two were taken on 6-7-08 - our first visit to see my OB, Dr. Guckes. We told him we wanted to know if our little bambino was a boy or girl. While he was performing the sonogram, the baby was moving around a lot. We saw the spine and then the cutest part to me was when we just saw legs up in the air. At that point, the doctor said, "Uh, I think I can tell you what you're going to have." I thought it was too early to tell, but he has been in the business awhile so I was excited. Just at that point, our little one went from acting like me to acting like Mike. The movement slowed down and the doctor was no longer able to see. Oh well...had to wait for the 20 week.

TTFN - ta, ta for now!
