All the Things & Why It's Hard and Beautiful Being Human

God is such a show off...

Both of his creations are absolutely spectacular.

Not to mention the fact that I get to live down the street from such beautiful horses.

Between baseball starting up and E's birthday and my new hobby, we have been busy! It seems like I hardly have time to sit down and blog anymore, and I miss it so much. I am determined to start setting aside a little time each week to write- even if it's just an hour. It's important for me, and I know this.

I also spend quite a bit of time working out at Tru Results. Most days we're not all there together, but it sure is fun when we are. I am really loving working out there! I typically go three days a week, right when I drop off Beck. So between that and tennis on Tuesdays and bible study on Thursdays, I really do stay pretty busy.

One day after I made E's party favors I was feeling crafty, so I made some spring teacher gifts. It was fun to do, and I thought they turned out so cute.

Sunday nights with the high school kids. When Harrison or Josh show up, the boys are thrilled!

Last weekend after baseball some of my neighborhood besties and I went to check out the neatest area that just opened called The Sound. It's an area with outdoor restaurants, a wine bar, a coffee bar, lawn games and funky art and seating in Coppell. The weather was perfect, and we felt like we hit the jackpot finding that neat little area. I will definitely go back!

We went over to Mexican Sugar for dinner and laughed until we cried. It was the best night!! We started talking about this time last year and remembering all the crazy stuff going on during Covid in our neighborhood. I mean really, that is what saved our sanity. We were laughing about the workouts we used to do and how we would space ourselves out two minutes apart running. We were militant about that! We laughed at how Rex insisted Kylee put all of their groceries in the refrigerator with gloves for three days before touching them and wouldn't touch mail or packages for three days. It's ironic because Lindsay and Leslie used to joke they were going to give Rex a Covid trophy and then Rex was the first one in our neighborhood who got Covid. Covid certainly isn't a laughing matter, but just thinking back to a year ago and how crazy our lives and our kids and those long days were... you kind of have to laugh at certain things that happened or over the top things we did, because none of us knew what to do.

It was a really welcome relief because I've been having a lot of anxious feelings and just feeling so down lately, because there is A LOT going on with friends of ours and people we know. As hard as I try to let things go and give them to God, I've shed a lot of tears for our friends lately (mostly Natalie and David), and had a lot of nights where sleep is a real challenge. I just don't understand why life is so brutal for people sometimes. Then I see God's sunsets by the Jesus fountain at church and cut into a dragon fruit, and I know He is there even in the smallest things so He's got to be there on the really big, impossible ones, too... doesn't He??

The biggest gifts God has put in my life lately are community though my bible study group, our friendship with the Tates and the Robersons, our high school kids and getting to minister to them with Nick- it's so special, and taking up a new hobby with tennis. Really, things are going so well for us and for our family for the most part, so I just try to come back to that and be grateful. It's easier said than done a lot of times.

A game of spike ball: everyone wear your sunglasses. Unless, you don't have sunglasses. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Friday was Roo's egg hunt at school. He looked so dapper! It was the first school function parents have been allowed to attend all year long! Felt so strange and also wonderful!

What also felt strange and wonderful was on Thursday night Nick and I went to the Maundy Thursday church service. It was the first time we had been to church together in over a year. There wasn't really any social distancing and almost half the people didn't have masks on. (There is one area designated masks are required and social distancing enforced.) Talk about strange!! It was equal parts uncomfortable sitting so close to strangers and being in a "normal" setting like that, and equally like a sigh of relief to see peoples' smiles again and think that maybe, just maybe, things are creeping towards normal again.

I just feel for all of us. It's hard to be a human in these times. For example, Logan's team played baseball last weekend and not a single person wore masks on either team. Then the next team took their same field and every single player and coach was masked up. Nobody knows what to do!! You just look around and think, "Bless our hearts. We're all just kind of a mess. None of us know what to do." I would say most places you go almost everyone still wears masks, but it does seem like you're seeing more and more people without masks. Most restaurants and stores still require masks, but there are a few that have taken down their signs or have a sign saying it's "recommended."

And of course, there's all the controversy about the Covid vaccine- to get it or not. And vaccine passports- will that be a thing or not. So many arguments and opinions on social media about all that. I just want to crawl in my hole with my people and hide from it all. I'll do what I want to do and you do what you want to do. Everyone stop yelling at each other.

Also this week the boys enjoyed being "egged" by the church. Then on Thursday Kylee and I had signed up to go egg some houses. That's a fun new tradition they've started.

This weekend was Easter, but it was also lots of baseball! I love watching them play so much.

The boys didn't have school on Friday of course, for Good Friday so I met up with Jamie, Vicki Heitz and Beth to play tennis while the kids played at the park with a couple of baby-sitters. Afterwards we took the kids to have lunch at Jersey Mike's and got ice cream. It was a really fun way to spend the morning!

We came home and cleaned out the garage, and I was so proud of how hard all three of them worked. They did such a good job!

Friday night Logan went to his first sleepover at Brooks' house, and Nick and I took the other two to Urban Air. We hated it, but they loved every minute.
And Logan lived his best life. He is still telling stories and laughing about different things from the sleepover.
This picture is everything!!

And this hilarious gem is how I feel when people start getting extreme and arguing about Covid things and politics and racism and anything else they can drum up on social media or when I think about the heartbreak friends we love are walking through. Someone hold me. I can't take it.

Easter 2021

We had a wonderful Easter Sunday, especially after last year's mayhem. It was our first time to be back in church as a family in over a year, and I don't really know how to describe how good it felt. After church we went to Al & Teri's with the Allshouses, Sue & Steve, my mom and JG & Stacey's family. We had such a great day eating and watching the kids run amok and hunt eggs. Teri worked so hard and made every little detail perfect. To top it off, Everett found the golden egg ($20 prize!) for the third year in a row. It was a really wonderful and special Easter.

And of course, the Easter Bunny visited this morning. The boys got books, puzzles, pool googles and a pool toy, a random assortment of toys and two eggs with $10 in them. Lolly liked her loot too!
