February 19 Challenge

And we're off! A whole new term starts at The Studio Challenges today, along with our 3 new team mates. We hope you will play along with us this week and check in on the fun challenges (& prizes!) we have in the months to come. Without further ado, we've got this week's challenge - which is to make a page inspired by this sketch from our very own Anna:

Here's how our team interpreted the sketch challenge:

Anna

I thought my sketch would go perfectly with the dotty cake a made for my sister-in-laws Birthday and it did!

Daphne

Fancy some buttons? I got lots of them - so why not use them on a layout!?
For this sketch I used an old photo which was made in 2004, on our way back to the continent from the little island of Amrum in the North Sea, Germany. It's always hard to say good bye to that island but I love going back there some day!

Jan

Oh, how I love a simple sketch with clean lines!  Love the playfulness of the circles.  They reminded me of the way our new kitten, Lucky wraps his tail around himself.  Added some cute felties to go with the punched scallop circles and cloth covered brads.  A cheeky title was the final touch!

Jules

Love this sketch :D

Katherine

For this challenge I choose an older shot of my youngest which I had printed off recently.  I realised that since I started scrapping after they were born I don't have that much of their early years and it has been lovely going back and sorting through the photos.  So here is one of my favourite shots of him as a baby all snuggled up in his baby grow.

Valerie

I love working with sketches, especially clean & simple ones that leave lots of white space open for interpretation! As soon as I saw the circles in the sketch - I thought of this photo of my son and his Magic 8 Ball.

Are you inspired yet? Make a page and link up on the sidebar. You could take home the prize and be next month's guest designer at The Studio!

The New Team

We would like to give a warm welcome to three new members to The Studio Design Team!
The design team for the next 6 months looks like this:
Returning members:

New Members:

Jan Tatomir
My name is Jan Tatomir.  I am a card making scrapper from Michigan.  I am a SAHM to 3 boys and a new kitten.  :)  I am a procrastinating perfectionist.  I do my best work in a clean and simple style.  I adore sketches.  I hate to touch lunch meat.  (just thought I'd throw that in there. )  ;)  I'm looking forward to being a part of this talented Studio team!

Katherine Sutton
My name is Katherine Sutton and I am married with two beautiful and energetic boys, the feature of many of my scrapbook pages.  I stumbled upon scrapbooking in 2006 when my mother-in-law bought me a kit, and I fell in love with it.  I love creating with paper, trying new techniques, making embellishments, mixing and matching colour and pattern….and that combined with capturing precious moment in my family’s life makes it even more enjoyable for me.  One of my pleasures is seeing my kids and friends look through my albums and enjoy and reminisce about the moments in the pages.  I am looking forward to joining in all the great challenges on the Studio blog and seeing all your creations.
Daphne Wuenn-Rihm

My name is Daphne and I’m a German girl living in the UK. My husband Tobias and I settled down in rural Dorset and we have two cats. We all really love it here!

In 2004 I started with card making for our wedding, but I was more an occasional crafter. But when Tobias found a new job in the UK and we both moved there I discovered “proper” Scrapbooking!

It was Shimelle who introduced me to that craft in February 2010 in an online class – and I was totally hooked! Telling the stories behind the pictures, being creative with pretty paper and meeting other people to share the same passion is really fulfilling in these fast days!

To get inspired I love using sketches and other challenges I find on Pinterest, blogs or in forums. As we have no children, I also love taking pictures of plants, landscapes, flowers - and of our cats of course!
At the moment I’m working as a Childcare Assistant in an after-school club which allows me a few hours of creative work in the mornings!
I’m really excited to join the team at The Studio and hope I can inspire you with my ideas!

I hope you will join us in welcoming them to the team!
Come back next Sunday to see the new teams first challenge!

5th February-Love

Welcome to the new format here at The Studio! Amanda has decided to take a well earned rest for 6 months so myself (Anna), Jules and Valerie have taken over!! Watch out for new design team members next challenge but until then you will have to make do with the three of us!!

Today's challenge is, as it's nearly Valentine's day, scrap about love but without using hearts!

Anna

I went with a romantic feel to my page as the picture is from a family wedding, I don't miss having hearts on it though!

Jules

As my DH is extremely camera shy, I have to be a bit more inventive when I'm creating layouts about the two of us. I've used a photo of a rose on this layout as roses featured heavily at our wedding, and we have climbing roses that grow over our porch. The photo also acts as a pocket for some hidden journaling.

Valerie
I knew what photo I was going to use as soon as I saw this challenge. The photo in my layout was taken at Christmas a few years ago. I've had it printed for ages but never made it into a page. I love it because it reminds me of the special bond my mom has with my daughter.
the little envelope to the left holds some of my favorite photos of them together:
Please link up your layouts in the side bar for a chance to become next months guest designer! We can't wait to see what you create, happy scrapping!

22nd January Challenge

Today Julie's challenge is 'Do you remember Sesame Street? How they'd always do "Brought to you by the letter___" at the end of the show?
I'm sort of channeling that for this month's challenge. Do a layout 'brought to you' by whichever one of the 26 that tickles your fancy. It could be the layout content, title...whatever you want, just so there's a focus on one letter.'

Here's Julie's layout:
I went with I is for Ian. :)
I used the biggest chipboard "I" I had in my drawer...misted it, and then used some Goosebumps Shimmer Texture Spray, for a fun finish.

Jules:
Loved this challenge! There was only one letter I could use, which I incorporated into the title.

Tessa:

I loved this challenge and have mentally bookmarked it for future reference - so many possibilities! I decided to focus on the letter "U" as a play on words.

Anna:
I printed off words to do with the sea all beginning with S.

Valerie:
This was a fun challenge and I had a hard time narrowing down my subject. I'm definitely inspired to make a few more layouts thanks to this prompt!

We look forward to seeing all your letter inspired layouts, link them up!

Jan 8th Challenge!

Hi everyone! Happy new year to you all!

Today's challenge comes from the lovely Julie Jacob...

Scrap a page using 5 or more photos!

And here are your inspirational layouts from the DT:

Juls

I found this challenge quite hard, as I don't often scrap with multiple photos - two is normally my maximum! I decided to keep them quite small, and very similar so it didn't feel too overwhelming. I also used black and white photos so they stand out against the colours in the rest of the layout.

Julie

This was a tough one for me...but a good challenge. I was shooting for 5 and ended up with 6! :)

Anna

This is a great challenge for when you have lots of photos from one day or time.

Valerie

I find the easiest way to get a lot of photos on a single page layout is to print them small. Wallet sized photos are great for overview pages - like this one that will start the 'Halloween 2011' section of my scrapbook.

And our prize for January is a $30 gift certificate to The Hen's Den store! Thank you for the generous prize :)

To enter, just link up your take on either of our January challenges (the next one goes live on 22nd) in the comments section of the challenge post. Can't wait to see everyone's entries!
