Motivation

I haven't really felt like doing much of anything lately. My house has been extremely gross. And honestly I don't know what I do with my time. However, it's surprising how much motivation comes when someone gets sick.
Last Saturday we ended up having to take Abi in to the doctor because she had a fever of 104. While we were there waiting Hannah's temperature started to rise. Each day I've waited patiently (or not so patiently) for the fevers to break. Then yesterday afternoon I'd had enough and I had an emotional breakdown last night. Thankfully I called my sister-in-law, who pretty much dropped everything and left her kids to come and sit with my sick kids while Josh had school and work so that I could get some time out of the house and go to the store. She's a LIFESAVER!
Anyway, so before I went to bed last night I made a list of things I wanted/needed to get done today. And I decided that I would just settle for cleaning the rooms on the main floor. So after taking Abi in to the doctor again this morning (she has the flu). I came home and got to work with dusting, and such in the living room. By the time I finished that it was time for the girls to get up and Josh to go to school. So I moved upstairs and let the girls play up there (something they don't usually get to do during the day because Josh sleeps). And I'm very pleased to say that I have successfully cleaned and sanitized the upstairs AND the main floor! YIPPEE!! I rock! And now as a reward I'm going to get a bowl of ice cream and go fold some sheets! And hope that since tomorrow is the 7th or 8th day that the fevers will be gone or on the way out.

First Hospital Visit

Well Hannah's surgery was today. It went really well. She was so brave and such a trooper. We had to check in to the hospital this morning at 8:15 which meant that we had to leave our house by 6:45 to drop Abi off at Grandma's and then make it back into town by 8:15. She couldn't eat or drink anything so Josh and I had to eat before she got up and then Abi had to wait until we left Grandma's to get breakfast. Regardless Hannah never even asked for a drink. After waiting a little while they took us back to a exam room so that we could change her into the hospital jammies. She was so excited to get to wear them and get new socks. Then they took us to the pre-op waiting room where she got to play with more toys for a few minutes. About 1/2 hour later they came and gave her some anti-anxiety medication and told us that she had to sit on our lap or in a wagon after that because it would make her groggy. She chose to sit in a wagon. For a few minutes she acted normal. The doctor came to talk to us and then the anestesiologist, as soon as he came in the room the medication hit her like a ton of bricks and she was falling over in the wagon before we knew it. Poor girl. We got her situated and then walked her to the operating room where she went with them willingly, no fuss that we were leaving her. Then we were sent to the parents waiting room. A short time later (about 40 minutes) they called me back cause she was done. When I found her she was flopping all over the bed because she was still drugged up. And she didn't want the nurses to touch her cause she didn't know them or where she was. When I picked her up she snuggled right into my arms and went right back to sleep. She was such a brave little girl yesterday. I'm so proud of her.

SICK of it!

Ordinarily about this time of year I am starting to get really sick of winter. Mostly because there are no major holidays to look forward to, and I'm tired of being couped up inside for so long. This year however, another factor came in to play. At least one person in our house has had some kind of illness for the past four (almost 5) months! Hannah's surgery is on Wednesday so hopefully that will be taken care of then. However on Saturday morning Abi woke up with a red eye. No big deal I thought, it's happened to her before and then it went away. Then that night she woke up crying saying that her tummy hurt and her ear hurt. So I gave her some tummy medicine and some Ibuprofen, then just to be safe I brought her a bowl in case she needed to throw up. After that I went to bed. I had just gotten settled when she started crying again so I went in and let's just say it's a good thing I gave her the bowl. I took care of her again and got her back to bed. Well after a couple more times going into her bedroom she finally went to sleep. Yesterday morning she woke up and her other eye was red. But she was not complaining about her ear anymore (although I was pretty sure she had or was getting an infection). Well I took her to the doctor today and just as I suspected she has an infection in both ears. I never would have thought that an ear infection and eye infections were related until Hannah got her eye infection because of her ear infection.
Needless to say I'm so ready for spring and warmer weather!!!!

Book Addiction

Ok so who would have thought that I would have found another series of books that I'm as obsessed over as I was with Harry Potter. Not me. Harry Potter was a really great series of books. Boy did I love them. I eagerly anticipated the release of the next book and when it finally came I had it read usually in 2 days.
Well I have found a new book addiction. Like Harry Potter I didn't start reading them until later. I didn't really know much about Harry Potter until book 4 had already been released and a co-worker told me I just had to read them. Well I'm coming in to this series after book 3 was released and the 4th and final book will be released the day before my birthday (on August 2nd). The Twilight Series of books by Stephenie Meyer. I have to give thanks to a couple of people for the introduction to these books. The first is Kirsten. About a year or so ago she told me about the Twighlight books, about how good they were and that I should read them. However I didn't really jump to reading them although I should have. Then I think my mom mentioned them to me although she had not read them yet she said they were supposed to be good and so she bought them. Then just after Christmas 2007 Mandy talked to me about them and how good she thought they were.
At this point I had just started reading another book so they again got pushed to the back burner with no idea when I would get to reading them since I don't have a ton of time to read (an entirely new subject). When I finished the book I was reading I decided to ask my mom to borrow her book since it would give me something to do the nights that Josh was working after the kids went to bed.
I never dreamed that I would get so involved. It's almost as if I'm a part of the story. It took me a little while to get started on the first book because I got bombarded with stuff going on at about the same time (my grandpas death, hannah being sick, etc.). But when I finally got started I finished it in a couple of days. Then this past Tuesday I went to my mom's and picked up the second book. I was so into it that I finished it by Wednesday evening before the girls went to bed. Now I just have to wait until Monday to get the third book from my mom's.
These books are so well written. It literally leaves me craving for more. I've gone to Stephenie Meyers website and read all of her extra stuff to. I honestly wasn't sure how much I would enjoy a story about Vampires and such. She does such an excellent job writing these stories.
One review states:

As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction.

For anyone out there who hasn't read these books. You are missing out. They are truly great choice for fictional reading.

Ear Troubles

Well Hannah still has an infection in both ears. It hasn't cleared up since the beginning of December. Poor girl. We ended up changing pediatricians and everything. We got tired of going in to see her old pediatrician and not really getting any information. So when she still had an infection at the end of December we decided to go see someone else. At this point we had looked in her mouth and her tonsils looked HUGE too. So I talked to the new doctor about it and the girl I met with asked me if her tonsils were usually that big. I told her I didn't really know. And she said that they didn't look infected and that if her tonsils were big then maybe her adnoids were too. And that her adnoids sit around the ear canal and that may be blocking it from draining. All of a sudden things started to make sense to me.
Anyway, they gave her some antibiotics and sent me home. A couple of weeks later I ended up taking her back in because she didn't seem to be getting any better and all of a sudden it looked like her tear ducts were clogged real bad again. So when I met with the doctor this time he said that sometimes ear infections come with an eye infection. And since she had been on antibiotics for a while they decided to give her the shots.
I took her in last week for the follow up on the shots and her ears were still infected so they sent me to see an ENT. Her appointment was today. And we have a surgery scheduled for the 20th to put tubes in her ears and remove her adnoids. The ENT asked us several questions like if she breathed really loud when she slept or if she stopped chewing to take a breath while eating. If she still sleeps with a binky. I told him yes to all and he said that it sounded like she has sleep apnea. Great! He also said that by removing her adnoids it would improve that if not get rid of it all together.
With any luck after that she will get better sleep and won't be as crabby all the time. Hopefully making my life a little bit (not much) easier. We'll see.

Bag Tag

Ok I've been Bag Tagged so here goes.

Here are the rules:
1. you have to show your bag
2. you have to show all the contents in your bag-without cleaning out first
3. tag 5 other people.

This is my bag. I got tired of carrying a HUGE diaper bag around so I needed to find one that I could throw a couple of diapers and wipes in and go.
In this picture it's filled pretty full. Although most of the bulge was Abi's clothes from yesterday. When we went to my mom's house yesterday evening I knew we would be getting home late so I threw in their jammies. It just so happens that Hannah didn't change in to hers til we got home so her clothing didn't end up in my purse. Just her shoes and socks which she took off on the way home in the car and I just shoved in there. Let's see the rest of it is the envelopes I put our budget (groceries, clothing, entertainment, etc.) money in, a diaper, wipes, tissues, a cookbook I borrowed from my mom, my checkbook and wallet, tic tacs, gum, a Brick Oven Pizza gift card, Tide to go, chapstick, nail clippers, hand sanitizer and a list of ENT's that I got from Hannah's doctor yesterday. Wow this bag can fit a lot more than I thought. So there you have it. And now since the only people who I can think of to tag are Brenda and Becky, have at it girls (although I won't be offended if you choose not to either). And anyone else who happens to read this post and hasn't done this already consider yourself tagged as well
