2016 Our Year Of Changes!

Lots and Lots of changes going on this year but I'm still making time in my studio for a little "Art Therapy"! This piece is the inside of the back cover of my 2016 art journal.

The quote is part of a poem that hung in the classroom of a teacher I worked with several years ago. It's always been a favorite of mine and I've used it several times. I guess it's just something that will always be close to my heart.

Mucha Inspired Halloween

It's that time of year again! the days are getting shorter, the air is getting cooler. Halloween is right around the corner. I finally got a little quality time to myself in my studio this weekend, and I've loved every second of it!

This "Mucha Inspired Halloween Piece" is a mixed media on a 6 1/2 x 15 illustration board. As you know I love all of the Graphics 45 papers and have incorporated the "Rare Oddities Collection" in my art.
I've also included metal gears from Tim Holtz and other metal charms to fit my theme. For depth I used Golden molding paste, and a two part crackle, painted into the design, and a lot of ink line work. finally I sprayed it with a workable fixative and used a matte varnish to finish it off.

I've Been Published!

I'm so excited to be included in the Jul/Aug/Sept issue of Art Journaling by Somerset Studio. There are so many talented artists in this issue. I am honored to be a part of it.

New Beginnings

It's been a while since I posted anything new on my blog! I've been frustrated with my out dated computer and finally figured out how to post from my I-Pad! Yay! Me! Now I have a lot of catching up to do. The first of the year I started posting my journal pages in the "Documented Life Project"  This is one of my pages! New techniques, new ideas!

Create Fictional Album Art

Last April while listening to Ann Delisi's "Essential Music" on Detroit Public Radio. She was conducting an interview with a representative from the Public Pool Community Art Space in Hamtramck MI. The Challenge was to create Fictional Album Art, from the recording artist to songs, lyrics, your imagination has no limits!
Public Pool will be transforming their gallery into the "Last Record Shop" sounds like a challenge I just had to try.  I thought this would be a fun project!
It took a little more time then I had thought, but it was fun and so worth the challenge!

I even did the spindle labels!
The LP Sleeve is mixed media, I used some images I pulled from pintrest added scrapbook papers from Graphics 45, metal gears by Tim Holtz, modeling paste, lace, and gear templates. Went back in with watercolor, and a crackle for an aged look. All of the detail is hand inked, front of the sleeve is all hand lettered.

Three Muses Challenge "Positive Affirmations"

I haven't done a Art Challenge in a while. So when "Three Muses" posted a challenge for Positive Affirmations I had to add a journal page that I just finished!
I've been trying lately to use a lot of texture and brighter colors on my pages without losing that crackle aged effect.

"Love Your Spirit" and thanks for looking!

My Wish for you!

Finished this journal page a couple of nights ago, for my oldest granddaughter, Emma Sophia. I took the photo of her walking in the yard blowing bubbles. When I pulled it up on the screen I had to use it in my art journal.
Lots of layering, and to give it extra dimension I used Liquitex Modeling Paste, acrylic paint and finally ink to make the images pop! Found the quote on Pintrest. It was perfect for a little girl with a big imagination! Nana loves you! Miss Emma

Journaling

Lately I've been experimenting with different background techniques. Using alcohol inks, acrylics and stamping. Practicing my lettering.
