This past friday night I played at Gabe's in Iowa City with two really great bands. The Exit and The Ghost have rapidly become two of my favorite bands, although no one will ever overthrow Hot Water Music. But more important then the fact that both these bands are incredibly good, is the fact that they are two groups of incredible people. I had never seen The Ghost before, but I had wanted to for some time. The impressed me so much musically. After the show, we had a party because they know some of our friends out here in Iowa. I got to meet all the guys as people and they were all super nice. The even made sure we were okay with the amount of money we got payed that night, offering to give us some of their cut. i mean wow!
I met The Exit back in november at a show at the Cog Factory(rip) in Omaha, NE. My friend Rocky from La Mantra De Fhiqria, had met them the summer before and told me about them. I finally got to see them play. The guys in the Exit and I hit it off, fun guys to hang out with and I was impressed at their sound. When they came through Iowa City a few weeks later they stayed at my house and I got to know them somemore. We've played with them a few times now and every time they come back they are so excited so see me and my band.
This may seem like a lot of name dropping, but there is a point here. Start a band. There is nothing more amazing then being able to play shows and meet people from all over the country and form relationships with them. There is nothing better then meeting new friends and seeing new faces that turn into familiar faces.

for those of you who don't know of what i am talking about, read my post from may 4th. i responded to all of your comments but i figured since it was over a month ago i last posted, no one would see. here is what i have to say:
something you should know about me, i can be very impulsive at times, that i react with emotion instead of my brain. but only in cases where i feel strongly objected to something that i forget what i stand for. i like porn. i do. but before i got the spam in my inbox i had never heard of it. i've know of lesbian, fetish, dominant, etc but not rape porn. almost a year and a half ago, one of my closest friends got raped by not one person, but two. multiply the trauma by two. i saw how it affected her. she even showed me a written detailed reflection on what exactly happened to her. i can get very emotional when i see someone else i care about get hurt. when i saw that site, all i could think about was her and all the other women out there who have been raped and how rape porn is a slap in their faces. lucky my friend is strong and has overcome this terrible thing. to some degree.
i do realise in the united states we have the right to free speech and i am all for that but how far are people going to go before disaster happens? morals are so distorted these days in society. i realise now that that petition will not do much. i'm not going to say why because most of you most likely know already. but when i saw what i did, i thought, if i couldn't have been there for my friend, i thought then maybe i could do something to prevent it from happening again. adults know that rape is wrong but kids don't. even if it is fantasy and those are actors on the screen.
why must rape porn sites be called just that? 'rape porn'. it is degrading to women who have been raped and do not want any reminder of it. rape porn is just another version of domination/submission porn. so why not just call it that? i feel you shouldn't have the words 'rape' and 'porn' in the same sentence. it does not make sense. sadly though, it will be awhile until sites such as these will change it. the least they could do is put a disclaimer up in the splash pages of their sites.
if you've actually read through all of this thanks for doing so. hate to be cliche but everyone has their opinions and i'm just telling you mine and where i'm coming from. i'm not asking for pity, just showing you my the meaning behind that petition. my impulsiveness got to me again. heh.

ok, basicly..i am about to solicit you, and i apologize for it.
i know you all have heard of www.makeoutclub.com, some of you may be members, hey, that's super.
one of the original founders of that site left a few months ago because he didn't like the direction or the attitude that MOC was heading towards. : (
so, he got some help from the likes of eyeball records, drive thru records, thursday, wonka vision magazine, and the art conspiracy.
in keeping with the original idea of MOC he created www.asocialdisease.com
an online community rooted in common music intrests, containing a message board, chatroom, built in journal on your profile page along with top 5, articles and reviews, and more is still being added... like the plan for an "adult" section.
i am not claiming ASD to be better than MOC, but it is a different type of community. the attitude, ideas, and direction are almost contrasting to MOC.
i would like to invite you to check it out, if you like what you see, please join.
