My cushion of extra cash is already gone. If I hadn't banked some of it, that would be gone, too. And so fast. So fucking fast. Once again, I'm a little in the red. Not as bad as last month, but a little bit. I feel like crying. I had promised myself that I would make things better this time around, but that didn't happen. And it wasn't the television that did it, either. It was the couple of DVDs here, the nice dinner there. I admit that I went way over the top for valentine's day. So I'm a chronic spender. If I have money, I blow through it. If I don't, I wish I did. It's almost as bad as having a drug habit, just without the needles. But I'm taking steps to eliminate this problem. There's a reason that my credit cards are gathering dust on my desk. I even left my savings account ATM card there, too, because even money in that account isn't safe. So next time I'll remember to balance my checkbook in the middle of a spending spree. Current Mood: annoyed | 10:30 am |
In an effort to create a proper musical experience for my impending trip northward, I'm asking everyone who reads this to please contribute their opinion. My friends and I have an eleven-hour MP3 cd to fill with music, and we don't have a lot of time to do it in. Update: The poll will only allow one answer. If you have more, please add them in the comments section! Sooooo, without further ado: Poll #20102: Music Poll!Open to: all, results viewable to: allWhat is the greatest driving song of all time? Oh, so THAT'S how cool I am. I'd forgotten. I'm GambitLook out and lock up your daughters, everyone, we're in the presence of Remy LeBeau. That's right, you're that smooth-talkin' Cajun boy with a flair for making women swoon and a great love for all things shiny and steal-able. Sure, you're forever on the run from your past, but there's no reason why you can't run from it in style, oui? What X-Men Character are You? | Tuesday, February 19th, 2002 | 3:51 pm |

I am so not in the mood to type now.
This sucks only because I have a lot to talk about.

Sent from a coworker As the clock ticks over from 8:01 PM on Wednesday, February 20th, 2002, time will (for sixty seconds only) read in perfect symmetry. To be more precise: 20:02, 20/02, 2002. It is an event which has only ever happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated.
The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch (or the 24-hour clock): 10:01AM, on January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23:59, it is something that will never happen again.

Grr. As was the case with Memento, the one screenshot from Moulin Rouge that I wanted to snag and use for a userpic isn't available. I really wanted a shot of the absinthe fairies doing their chorus line. Alas, can't find one. Current Mood: disappointed | 9:39 am |
Valentine's Day plus. Last night was really cool. Went to K's place, stopped off first for flowers, champagne and a card. I'm getting her present today (lack of shopping time), but last night she gave me the first season collection of Buffy episodes on DVD. Sweet! She made dinner, then we headed out to rent a movie. We settled on Moulin Rouge! for last night's viewing over champagne and cheesecake. What a fucking great movie. From the moment the unconscious Argentinian fell through the roof, I knew it was going to be a perfect experience. Then the absinthe, and the singing, and the dancing on the clouds, and Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor...~blinks~ Must own. Now. The movie seemed to hit me very powerfully. I don't know why...maybe it was Ewan's convincing acting, or Nicole's convincing eyes, or the fact that I know something about reality and fantasy imitating each other. I guess I just really loved this movie. I kind of want the soundtrack, but I've heard mixed reviews of it. I do know I want the movie, though. It's one of the few truly fabulous films I've ever seen. Something just dawned on me. Mapquest.com has an extremely powerful satellite map system built into the site. It can show you an aerial photograph of any place in the U.S. (as far as I can tell) down to the city block. I located the building my fucking apartment is in. They were even kind enough to make the dumpster out front visible. But hey, at least I know where the pool is now. Current Mood: impressedCurrent Music: Ben Harper = Glory and Consequence | 2:08 pm |
Sent to me... A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The woman below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude." "You must be an engineer," said the balloonist. "I am," replied the woman. "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist,"everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip." The woman below responded, "You must be in Management." "I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault." Current Mood: amused | 10:08 am |
(Sung to the tune of "Hungry Like the Wolf") "Your best friend is you I'm my best friend too I share the same views and hardly ever argue Eat Spam from the can Watch late night C-Span And rock out to old school Duran Duran." Points if you know the reference. I just find it funny and intelligent in that pointless, sophomoric way. I just found trance remix of "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits.
I may very well be king of the world, but I think there may be something seriously wrong with it.

I just decided to do a good thing Seven and a half years ago, I had just become a sophomore in high school. I had no money, several hobbies, and was among the more unhappy people you may have met. I used to visit my uncle's place after school when I needed to, most specifically if I had to remain on campus for whatever reason after the bus left. To offer some background: at this point of my life, I was an avid fan of comic books, magic cards, etc. My uncle proved to be little more than a grown up child, as he maintained an exceedingly large comic book collection. I used to read some of his comic books (very carefully, mind you) when I spent time at his house after school. One day, I decided to take a couple. I took some that I knew to be entertaining reads, just so I could add them to my collection. I took another that I did not want myself, particularly, but that I knew to be valuable. I sold this for half of its value to the local comic book store and hid the rest of the stolen comics in my collection. Years later, I confronted my uncle with this, and returned the books that I'd stolen, mentioning the one that I'd sold and was now unrecoverable. He was genuinely appreciative of my honesty, if a little disappointed in my dishonesty. I was simply glad to have the monkey off my back. I've just realized that now, all these years after this went down, now that I live under my own means, now that I have a sliver of pocket change to spend as I will, that I can attempt to make complete amends for the situation. Some people are offering this comic book (Uncanny X-Men #94, the first syndicated appearance of the new team) for a reasonably good value on eBay. I will purchase this comic after my next paycheck and give it to my uncle, and maybe feel a little better about myself. I can count the number of people that I've honest-to-God wronged on one hand, if perhaps one finger. It'd be nice to find some more resolution on that front. I know this has little to do with karma, and nothing whatsoever to do with altruism, but I think it's a nice idea. Current Mood: thoughtful | 9:03 am |
