at the alleghenies... in the ditch [28 Jan 2003|02:03pm]
[ music | ghost in the shell ]

while kevin was securing the sleds in the trailer, i decided to take nadia for a walk to the end of the road and asked him to pick us up there when he was finished since it was on the way out. so nadia and i made it all the way down, i stood waiting for a little while, wondering where kev could be, and then decided to find out.
i rounded the corner to see kevin approaching me. he said we had a problem, and that i should see for myself, so we walked around the next bend to the below sight. heh:) somehow the car just spun out.

out of pure boredom the other day, i terraformed the top of kevin's head with his medieval pewter figures. remarkably, he accommodates a population of four, one which includes a horse and full body armor.

watched the big lebowski last night.

a world away [24 Jan 2003|06:46pm]
an amish man waved at me in greeting today. i was on my snowmachine, stopped at a road for a few moments, about to cross to the adjoining trail. he was walking along by himself in the cold wind and snow.
~
i was riding along a field and uncertain if i was heading in the right direction, i stopped and there was an elderly man on a rust-stained tractor also past its springtime, but with more character and charm than something shiny and new. from the looks of it, he was tending to his livestock that were congregated far back behind his house. since kevin and i can only communicate in hand signals while riding, i put my thumb up in question because the wind had covered up many sections of the disjointed trail and we were trying to backtrack. kevin responded likewise to indicate i was on the right path and should proceed. i turned back around, and the man smiled a mischievous grin, and his thumb shot up in the air, and then i took off.
~
kevin and i drag raced along an old country airstrip. three times. he won every time. i hesitate too much at the beginning.

kevin said he read my journal when he had access to a computer while he was away, though he said that he couldn't think of anything to say, so he didn't make himself known.
that he did that meant a lot to me.

he has lightheartedly teased me about it from the beginning, so its good to know that when we are apart, he is still interested in my experiences, feelings, reactions and isn't bored with my conversations, on here more often ramblings than a serious-minded record of thoughts, though i do have infrequent moments.:) he understands more clearly and with less prejudiced judgment, bringing clouded perceptions without verification or scientific-like inquiry, than anyone i've ever known.

[23 Jan 2003|10:56am]
i went snowmobiling late the other night with kevin, my friend heather's fiancee, and his good friend. we all have similiar arctic cat machines, so that was kinda cool. we untrailered on their fifty acres of property, and then sped across fields and maneuvered through the woods to the other side of town. some locations were insanely fun; areas with natural jumps and undulating hills, going fast and lifting off into the air. at one well frequented place, i realized my limitations because the series of jumps was extreme and i do have some distant sense of my own mortality.;) but it was captivating to observe, with nothing but the moon and headlights to illuminate. i saw ken go at almost a total perpendicular angle with his machine into the air. i always thought those no fear slogans that were everywhere a few years ago were so lame and macho, but he deserves a whole wardrobe of them.

on the trip back the guy directly in front of me had his first official accident and landed his month old machine into a tree and caused some substantial damage, though luckily he stepped away unscathed. ken has the most elaborate mechancial garage this side of the rockies, full of all things with engines and cupboards, lockers, endless shelfs of related stuff in addition to meticulously labeled containers of nuts, bolts, screws, anything related to building, maintaining or repairing a motorcyle, car, dirtbike or snowmobile you can imagine. its truly impressive. its detached from their house and is heated at a monthly cost of six hundred dollars. now that is a man serious about his hobby.

kevin and i listened to the morphology album. the mastering engineer did great work. kev was talking to his parents about the cd, and i hope when they hear it that they don't realize i did the female vocals on the one track because of the deviant lyrics.;) i already had an embarassing incident a few months back where his dad dropped in without warning and i had the story of O sitting out on the couch. i made such a fast effort to relocate it to a less obvious place on the nearby bookshelf, thereby drawing attention and interest to it. heh, of all the books to be sitting out, it would have to be that! for those who know me, there is about fifty varying shades of crimson to my complexion when flustered, so initially it was a pretty uncomfortable visit, though i saw the humor in retrospect. :-)

there is no such thing as walking nadia in the park [18 Jan 2003|03:15pm]
[ music | hazy shade of winter ]

there is only being dragged.

there is a reason many of the picture i take of her are blurred and without her full body. she is a fast dog.:)

i almost didn't go to the park alone today because i am small of frame and worried about the rare chance of running into a rapist or scary man or bigfoot. my girl friend just told me a story about jogging at a local park and glancing over off the paved path to discover a man crouched staring back at her in the weeds. that was the last time she went running alone at a park. we live in what i think most people would consider a safe area, so that just goes to show that unfortunately you always need to exercise caution and its sometimes difficult as a woman to determine what is too much or little.

i am so glad that i did though because it felt good to be surrounded by snowy woods, and it turned out that the only other creatures i came across on the trails was a kindly old man and his dog. i miss the woods behind my parent's house which had a couple ponds and where i was able to hike undisturbed, unless the neighborhood boys my age were playing gi joe, out blowing stuff up or shooting at it. it was my family's home for twenty-four years. i drove past it the other day, as it was on my way to my parent's new house, and it was strange to see it again. they extended the driveway, added a barn and a put a bench on the porch, where before there was nothing but hanging flowers that my mom used to put up in summer. it was sad to drive down the road because last year they cut down over half the trees bordering both sides of the road to put in a gas line. trees that had been there since i can remember. it looks victimized.

i think the glass of wine i had at dinner over at my friend heather's house tonight is keeping me awake. maybe i'll just put on a jacket and scarf and go outside and walk my dog in the moonlight. its a good night for it.

weekend in reverse [13 Jan 2003|08:14pm]
friday night kev and i finished recording the last vocals on a song we've been working on. he did some adjustments and additions, and right as he was saving it, cubase crashed and the file got corrupted. he attempted to do a file retrieval, but it was unsuccessful. on a positive note, he had the vocals and music saved; but like a puzzle, it all needs to be pieced together and we had a lot of different layers on the vocals and the finals were mixed pretty heavily with the outakes. the refrain line in the song is it is gone. ironic, huh?;) despite the frustration and disappointment, that cracked me up.

saturday afternoon i went out with my friend heather to try on my bridesmaid dress for her wedding. she was my best friend from kindergarten until highschool when we, for lack of a better description, grew in different ways and also had a falling out and my reaction was distance and for the most part silence, which lasted probably longer than it should have. it's a pretty deep red gown, that is not a traditional style and i will be able to wear more than once, from one of my favorite stores. she lives close by and has a cool dome shaped house set back in the woods. its really unique. her fiance just got an arctic cat snowmobile that next year she will inherit when he gets a new one, so i'm excited to have her and him go on some trips to canada with us. he's also into motorcyles and has created jumps, also fun for snowmobiles, on his property. when we were younger, i got in an accident at the cottage, going too fast and hitting a patch of ice, which led straight into a tree, and she was riding on the back on the snowmobile. i still feel bad because she has a small scar on her leg from it.

heath keeps asking me about wedding plans and says i need a wedding planner. heh, its kind of funny. she has a ton of books and literature on it. photographers that cost thousands, invitations, flowers, dresses, etc, etc... but i'm really not into that. though i enjoy looking at and can appreciate the workmanship in ornate dresses. my ideal is a ceremony in a beautiful place, somewhere across the ocean, with immediate family and close friends.

later on, my sister had said that she wanted to go out, and since heather's fiance was going out snowmobiling with his buddies and she didn't have plans, i thought i should probably take brandie up on her offer to meet up. she really wanted to check out the new utlra pretentious club moda, that as kevin said, cost a million and is doing everything wrong, so we did that. before, another friend met up with us at the cooker for dinner. we stayed until around midnight, and since heather kept mentioning the chamber, where i had taken her years previously, and used to like some industrial, we decided to go over there. i'm glad we did as one of our friends had some sad personal news, and we hung out with him.
my sis opted out since she was there a few weeks ago with us on new year's and and went home. heath was excited to request old kmfdm and front 242, which she hasn't heard in a long time, and said she had more fun at there then the more normal places downtown, though she's not a frequent downtown kind of person. heh, she remembers my old godflesh shirt that i used to wear religiously in highschool. her fiance called her on her cell around 2am and she told him that she was at an s&m; bar. this is a guy who hates downtown and was brought up in the same country environment i was. heh, hopefully he doesn't think i'm too much of a freak.

sunday kev and i recovered from the previous night. we watched donnie darko. interesting, weird movie. we missed the first half hour so were even more baffled by the storyline. later on, played the card game fluxx and read some.

my sister as a mom [07 Jan 2003|09:57am]
so i got an e-mail this morning from my sister, with the subject header, When Your Christmas Present Backfires...

i open it up to discover this

the file name, Train Tie Down

meg is the damsel in distress. its kinda hard to distinguish the train, but she is tied down to the track (like in the movies) and about to be run over by the toy train set that my dad got her.

the above shot is by the photographer O. Winston Link who in the 1950's (from 55-'60) documented the last years of steam railroading on the N&W.; here is a photograph of him and his assistant (the equipment surrounding them was neccessary for making night flash pictures) along with my favorite picture of his. my question is whether the car winding around the bend at that moment was parked there or was it luck. anyways, its an amazing shot!

its ironic that i've continually received a pop up message from the LJ entity saying my password is too easily guessable, and yet, i can't guess it to log in to post some responses to friends.
(i lost my auto log cookie somehow)
oh the irony. heh...

it was around eleven pm the other night, i looked out the window again at the sheath of ice covering all the trees that was beautiful. so i turned around to kevin, who was snug in the bed reading his book, and suggested we leave the cozy house and warmth and go take pictures of ice on trees. as you can imagine, he initially wasn't as excited as i was about that prospect. but since he's such a good guy, he agreed to be my (heh) official assistant, and we bundled up and got the camera and tripod. we were out there for probably around forty minutes trying different angles and lighting. strangely enough, we both had a lot of fun, though maybe we are just strange enough that that would be fun.
i think this one came out the best of the series:

for new year's i went to my friend marty's house. it was a lot of fun. i walked in knowing hardly anyone, but felt comfortable. my sister was also there, which was great because she hasn't been out in many months because of meg. she showed up just in time five minutes until midnight. it was kind of funny because she didn't know that marty had moved and the light bulb went on last minute to call her to ask if she knew or not. so she just barely spent new year's with some strangers.
oh, and mike d rocks!

later on, sometime around one am, i told kev we should probably head out to visit the android lounge since i said we'd probably be there, so brandie decided to join us and we hung out until close. kevin djed a bit, and then we went to diana's to have a very early and greasy breakfast. overall, it was a fun night.
