image: Harry Potter reaching for the golden snitch, copyright Warner Bros. Welcome to Quaffle Queries, a webpage dedicated to the ancient and extremely popular wizard sport of Quidditch! Whether you're an avid Quidditch fan or a first time Muggle-born who knows nothing about the sport, worry not. Quaffle Queries has something for everyone. My name is Meg, and I'll be your guide to the world of Quidditch.

It is my aim to have Quaffle Queries become the definitive guide to Quidditch on the Muggle "web". It should become the ultimate guide to everything you always wanted to know about Quidditch, given a little time. Or at least that's what it looked like in the crystal ball Professor Trelawney kept making me gaze into in divinations class.

If, during your stay with me, you notice some piece of misinformation (that is to say I screwed something up), please email me with the right information and where you got it, so I can check for myself. It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I've been told I was wrong about Quidditch before, only to find out I wasn't through a little research.

Let me start out with a few Quidditch basics you are going to need in order to understand the rest of the page.

Quidditch is played on flying broomsticks, by two teams of seven players each. The teams are divided like this: One Keeper, three Chasers, two Beaters, and last but certainly not least, one Seeker. The field over which Quidditch is played is called the pitch, and it measures 500 feet in length and 180 feet in width. Players can fly wherever they like inside those boundaries. There is no limit on the height you can fly.

Games begin with the Bludgers, the Quaffle and the Golden Snitch being released into the air over the pitch. The Chasers take off after the Quaffle, the Beaters attack the Bludgers, and the Keepers defend the goals. The game will continue from this point on, until one of the Seekers catches the Golden Snitch - at that time, 150 points is awarded to the catching Seekers' team, and the game ends. Because of the lack of a time limit, some games have been known to go on for months.

Well, I think that's all you need to get started...so sit back, relax, and Accio yourself a cold drink...it's time to do some serious Quidditch reading!

Enjoy!
