There is a place Where you can sit by the water And see your face In the reflection The sun is beating at your back hotter Upon closer inpection Water Lillies floating away Rays of light refracting in water by day The sun is rising, it's early morn The night's darkness pierced and torn Gold, Yellow, Purple Morning Light Brings in the morning sunrise Into sight As cumulus, stratus clouds pass by I let out a sigh of delight as I know I awoke Sitting there as I soak My toes in the water My submerged thoughts leak As the winds stroke My hair Glistening in the sun The thistles and the daffodils whistle As I run across the grassy knoll The view stole My breath away Without any further delay There are no words that I can say That will truly do justice to the beauty of this day I look the other way And admire the view Overhead, flocks of birds of flew Many a mile All the while They fly in line in file Overhead Instead Of straying off their course They are surefast, sticking to the principles of their source You realize As you watch the animated clouds in the skies You realize How lucky you are to be alive How much you can strive To Drive Your life in the direction you choose If you don't take the right turn you might lose Do not take life and its wonders for granted Stop and Think of all the times you've ranted Did you begin to realize How wise Your eyes All your ties To the world of around you You should never be through Appreciating it and each other Life - That which made you Making you sure Of who you are And who you want to be Look at your reflection See yourself face to face Keep your life at a steady pace To journey towards this place Requires patience, love, and time Nothing that you can make up through words of rhyme There is a place Where you can sit by the water And see your face In the reflection This is the first step towards introspection. |

I've begun a journey which has lasted many a mile Step by step in a new direction My course shall voyage a while What is your style When you travel many a mile Do you stand in line in file or break free to cast your dreams from thee Thine heart Provides a place where you can start to map and chart the very sinew threads of memories with which you cart As you Part On Various Journeys Throughout your life Free yourself from misery and strife Let Life's Lessons start My Journey goes within Where my feelings and thoughts are akin To the truth from within my heart In which I uniquely impart My Dear I hold no fear My thoughts and feelings are very clear They remain here In my heart, the root from which I start To chart and cart All my precious memories of all my sacred journeys Within Akin TO the Truth Within my heart From the Start Of my life All now free from Misery Free from strife The Grandest Things Which life brings All which clings Beyond all the dents and dings Of all the things which string Like a thorn in your side Do not collide With a frivolous ride I will confide That by my side Nothing but my own truths shall reside. |

|><| | | The Self Mannaz The starting point is the self. Its essence is water. Only clarity, willingness to change, is effective now. A correct relationship to your self is primary, for from it flow all possible right relationships with others and with the Divine. Remain modest-that is the Oracle's Counsel. Regardless of how great may be your merit, be yielding, devoted and moderate, for then you have a true direction for your life. Be in the world but not of it. And yet do not be closed, narrow, or judging;, rather, remain receptive to impulses flowing from the Divine within and without. Strive to live the ordinary life in a non ordinary way. Remember at all times what is coming to be and passing away, and focus on that which abides. Nothing is less called for from you now. This is a time of major growth and rectification and, as a rule, rectification must come before progress. The field is tilled before the seed is planted, the garden is weeded before the flower blooms, and the self must know stillness before it can discover its true song. Now is not a time to seek credit for accomplishments or to focus on results. Instead, be content to do your task for the task's sake. Herein lies the secret of experiencing a true present. If you take the Rune of the Self and cut it down the middle, you will see the Rune for Joy with its mirror image. There is here a subtle caution against carelessness. The Self is required to balance other self. Nothing in excess was the second phrase written over the gateway to the temple at Delphi. The first counsel was Know Thyself. |

|> | Joy Light This Rune is a fruit bearing branch. The term of travail is ended and you have come to yourself in some regard. The shift that was due has occurred; now you can freely received Wunjo's blessings, whether they may be in material gain in your emotional life or in a heightened sense of your own well-being. This is an alchemical moment in which understanding is transmuted for knowledge. The knowledge itself was in necessary but not sufficient condition; now you can rejoice, having been carried across the gap by the Will of the Divine. Joyousness accompanies new energy, energy blocked before now. Light pierces the clouds and touches the waters just as something lovely emerges from the depths. The soul is illuminated from within, at the meeting place of the Divine and Earth, the meeting of the waters. There is new clarity which may call for you to renounce existing plans, ambitions goals. It is proper and timely for you to do so, for Wunjo is a Rune of restoration, of the self properly aligned with the Self. |

(Author's Note: This was written in commemoration of my Grandfather's Memorial Service, which I will be speaking at in honour of my grandfather's life and death today. My grandfather passed January 06, 2002 from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. He has taught me a lot of amazing things in life.) Ode to my Grandfather Ma grandpere was a wise man, loved, respected One who lived his life with much care As I recall gazing into his stare The thick highlighted gray lines of his hair His smile, his kisses, blown with flair How much I can say for my love for my grandpere Grandpa, you taught me many things wise After my birth passed, and I became an adult my wisdom arised All I had to do was look into your eyes Nothing to wonder, Nothing to surmise What you have taught me Encompasses much respect and honour for how we live our lives Providing for, loving, and appreciating all of our family ties What is most important to me through the years Is that you loved me, In that, your spirit is always near I love you with all my heart. My dear, thank you for being here. Of the many things my grandfather taught me: Personal and Social Etiquette (Classical) Tennis Swimming Skiing (He skiied with me into his late 70's, and taught me how to ski) Differences in generations (to listen to and to appreciate the differences, and respect them) The Value of Hard Work and Investment Professionalism - Business Decisions (he was always a successful investor) To travel as much as possible To respect your elders To Provide for your family To value education My grandfather was many things to me: He was loving, witty, articulate, well respected, stern, professional, opinionated, intelligent, well informed on political, social, fiscal and current affairs. He was a mentor, a proud veteran, and first and foremostly, a loving grandfather. My grandfather was an accomplished man, of many talents. Aside from having a love for an an active hobby in gardening, he was also an accomplished skier, loved to go on hikes, swimmer, tennis player, World Traveler and active in many college and community affairs. He was born in 1916, in San Francisco - 10 years after the 1906 SF Earthquake. He was raised in SF, attended Lowell High School, and graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Sciences in Business Administration. During the course of college, he was involved in several different extracurricular activities, including acting as president of the Sigma Nu fraternity, Interfraternity Council, the Daily California Business Staff and Social Clubs. Drafted early in 1941 for World War II, he became a commissioned officer in early 1942 for the Fort Benning infrantry training school. He saw duty with the 3rd Infantry Division in the European Theatre, October 1942 - July 1945, seperating as a captain. he served with the Division in Algeria/Morocco, Tunisia, Siciliy, Naples/Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe (Austria). He received thte Bronze star, Soldier's Medal, Presidential Citation (3rd Division), Combat Infantry Badge. During the last year of the War he served as Aide-De-Camp to Major General John (Iron Mike) O'Daniel, Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division. The division made assault amphibious landings at Casablanca (FR. Morroco), Sicily, Anzio and Southern France. It was almost continuous action during the war. He was married in April, 1951 to my grandmother, where they raised three children, including my mother in Marin County. His business career in San Francisco centered in the fields of sales promotion, advertising and public relations, retiring as a department manager for a public utility. May his soul rest in peace. |

Much love to all of you - each and every day is a day to appreciate those you love. I vow to make each and every day a day that I am grateful for all those who share their love with me and vice versa. While Valentine's has been a day to appreciate one person who is significant in your life, I choose to appreciate all who are significant not just on one day - but every day of the year - for the rest of my life. Thanks to all my friends, family, and those who I know for all your love and support. Much love goes to you as well. Karina |

Have you ever wondered what makes Californians so calm? Besides drugs, I mean. The answer is hot tubs. A hot tub is a redwood container filled with water that you sit in naked with members of the opposite sex, none of whom is necessarily your spouse. After a few hours in their hot tubs, Californians don't give a damn about earthquakes or mass murderers. They don't give a damn about anything , which is why they are able to produce "Laverne and Shirley" week after week. -- Dave Barry, "The Taming of the Screw" |

When you look into these eyes Do you see any lies You may see what you want to see But You know in your heart I am just me I am not what you want me to be I am me, living life free and willingly Loving each and every day Living my life in the best possible way Holding those dear to be close and true How much more would I ask from you? Not much, expectations are disappointments in disguise Instead, I chose to speak and rise Stand my ground, for who I am I can you tell that I give a damn I care who you are I wish upon many stars My life is what I make of it No - my life is *not* a bowl of cherries and I am *not* stuck in the pits How many times Have you felt alone How many times has the truth shown That you can live and love and give - when push comes to shove Who's going to be knocking at your door When you beg and plead and ask for more Do you know what your life has in store Have you really thought about it, I implore When you look into my eyes What do you see Do you see me For what I am - Just Me Or do you find with glee Surprises in store My life I'll share with you Reality - that which I tore Not woven for lore It beats at my inner core I am not a simple mind I know where to find The love within my heart It came from inside from the very start You see, I didn't have much But I took it upon myself to touch As many people in the world Positive energy love, I have hurled All my love I wish to give. Another breath, life is to short to not live To not take a breath and stop along the way To show your appreciation each and every day. When you look into my eyes What do you see Do you see me Or glory Do you see a soul that has been freed From the pain, from the misery That which at one time did bind me I want to be free To let my wings soar To learn, to grow more To see what life has in store. I just want to be me. |

Sen. Danforth: "There is nothing on the face of the album which would notify you if the record has pornographic material or material glorifying violence?" Tipper Gore: "No, there is nothing that would suggest that to me." Frank Zappa: "I would say that a buzz saw blade between the guy's legs on the album cover is good indication that it's not for little Johnny." -- The Senate Commerce Committee hearing on rock lyrics, from The Village Voice, 6 Oct 1985 |
