Music:the Lucksmiths - "Synchronised Sinking".
Note to self: do not eat half a bag of Fritos honey BBQ flavoured twists when stomach is being dodgy!

Yeah, I know I was going to go to bed a while ago, but I got caught up in doing nothing and began to feel a bit better. The girls are downtown right now... it's kind of a bummer to miss a chance to hang out with them (especially since we've only 2 weeks left together... eep!) but I honestly would have had a seizure or something if I'd imbibed anything alcoholic tonite. They're going to take photos, though, which will be funny as always to see.

Oh, and the ever-so-clever doctorhemolymph made a silly little poem about his LJ friends list and I am honored to be the muse for the following stanza:

Colleen spent last night chatting with trustee
Then getting real drunk and snogging a freshie
Her thesis on Ireland turned out pretty well
Her British expressions are funny as hell

It's a privatized entry, but I figured he wouldn't mind if I copied the part about me in here. :D

Ooh just rediscovered the Lucksmiths song "Synchronized Sinking"... oh please go, go, go and download it now! I hadn't listened to it in ages, Owen (owenm) included it on a mix he made for me ages ago but I heard it for the first time in months tonight and remembered how brilliant it is. It's a song that makes me happy :) Oh, and while you're at it, why not download Rivulets "Four Weeks"? You won't be disappointed, I promise.

I feel so... ew right now. I don't know if it's the Fritos twists or what, but I all of a sudden feel incredibly anxious. I'm torn between feeling moderately sad about leaving HWS and incredibly impatient to get the next 5 months over with. I hate feeling uncertain and icky. Sometimes weekends are a bit annoying that way... when they're boring it feels like time stops and you're stuck in the doledrums. If Geneva were a bigger place perhaps I could find more things to occupy my time than sitting writing nonsensical drivel in my livejournal.

I was hardcore craving a fruit salad today... ah sweet fruit. I would kill right now for a pint of strawberries or some watermelon.

It's Jenn's (mobespierre's) birthday on Monday. I will see what I can do about coming home tomorrow/today whatever. It might be an option, but I don't think I'll be able to stay for the party, dually for her birthday and Manda's farewell.

I am definitely tidying up my room tomorrow... I just can't live like this anymore. Sometimes I think having my room so cluttered actually tends to depress me. Besides, some of this stuff might have to start making its way back home since I'm moving back in a mere two weeks and there's no way I can make just one trip with all the crap I've accumulated. In some ways I can't wait to move back home for the summer (although I know I'll feel quite differently about that after about a month of it!).

I'll feel a lot less stressed after I start making money again instead of spending it.

Anyway, I think I am going to go to bed now... need sleep. Thank you and goodnight! ;)

Music:people shouting about downstairs.
Argh I don't even know if I have the energy to write about last night, but here goes:

I went to the honors dinner and there was a reception with free wine beforehand (where I'm certain all my troubles began). I didn't really know anyone there, so I mingled a bit waiting for my adviser who I assumed would be coming even though he hadn't mentioned anything about it. Yeah, well, I found out from Professor Passavant that my adviser in fact wasn't coming, he was in NYC visiting his girlfriend. I can't honestly blame him, but I was a bit peeved because I was the only one whose adviser didn't show up. Not to mention that, even though I though my outfit was nice and conservative, I had the shortest skirt (not far above the knee!) and lowest-cut top there. D'oh. I think I may have been hit on by the assistant to the President. Fucking weird.

Anyway, we moved onto dinner (which was actually quite good!) and (since sed adviser abandoned me) I had to sit next to this old trustee who talked about the Titanic for a good half-hour, and then about how he was a hippy at Hobart in the 60s. I drank more wine, obviously... I was going to go insane. Sooo boring.

This thing went on until 9.30, and I figured I should pop over to Odells because I thought that the girls would already be pregaming (so I didn't bother to change). When I got there I mixed myself a diet Dr Pepper and vodka and drank a bit with Eli (Danielle and Christine were sick and not going out). We headed downtown at 11.15 or so.

When we got to the Sideshow we took a shot of SoCo and lime and then drank rum and cokes (they make them sickeningly strong there... it's like a glass of rum with a splash of coke). I think we may have harassed a few people, requested songs on the jukebox, etc. We ran into Elisa and Kate and company, who said they were going to the Holiday, so we decided that was a good idea.

As we were waiting in line I told Elisabeth (already well-drunk): "Don't let me hook up with anyone under 20 tonight!" Well.... yeah. That didn't work out. We ran into the frosh, Elisabeth made some weird noise the first time we passed him which was rather embarrasing at the time but is now very funny. But then we started talking (the frosh and I) and it turned out that he had a ride, so I tried to snag one for Eli and myself. I was seriously deliberating whether or not I should go through with hooking up with him but Emily was like "There are only 15 days left until graduation... get some ass!"

So Eli decided she was going to go home with Emily, and I went along with the frosh to some party at some house somewhere (goes to show how much I remember!). I ran into some dude from my class, who blabbered on and on about how awesome the professor (my adviser) is. I was like, "um, yeah... he's cool" but he kept rambling on. Then there was some dude who pretended he knew me, but he was supposed to be a sophomore and was kicked out, so I think he was wrong. Weird party, only stayed for a beer and then drove to some frat that we didn't even go into. We just waited in the car while the frosh's friend looked for some girl. Back to Sherrill for only a moment and then the frosh and I left to come back here.

Yeah.

He left at 8.30 (I pulled the same "I need to sleep" line) and man I still feel shitty. I don't want to leave my bed. I am definitely going to go nap... the girls want a big night tonight and are planning on a power hour. I don't know if I'll make it out. I definitely won't if my stomach doesn't stop being dodgy. I just ate some chicken noodle soup, though, which I think may have helped a little, but I still think tonight will be a quiet one.

Right, time to rest. Last nights numbers are:

5: very boring trustees I had to sit with at dinner
30: minutes I had to listen to stories about the Titanic
1: AWOL adviser
4: glasses of red wine
2: shots of vodka (mixed with diet Dr Pepper)

2: shots of rum (mixed with a dash of diet Coke)
2: beers
1: more drunken interaction with the freshman
10: IMs I received from Eli when I got home last night, poking fun at me for sed drunken interaction
5: more IMs from Eli this morning, still poking fun ;)
2: times I threw up this morning... ew.
0: more times I will hook up with the freshman... no, really!
1: bowl of chicken noodle soup eaten

Mmmm how I love showers! I just sat under the calming stream of hot water, the pressure massaging my shoulders and back, for a good minute smiling contently.

I actually have to go get ready for my silly honors dinner soon (whee... getting tipsy off wine with the president and trustees...bo-ring...). Can't complain about a nice, free dinner though! Although if they serve ravioli I'm going to be sick... I've had ravioli for dinner the past two nights (Wednesday at Ports: stuffed with a cheese--I can't remember which one--and smothered in a delish pesto creme sauce; Yesterday at Hamilton: stuffed with asparagus and mozarella, in a vodka-based creme sauce). I love the little goodness-stuffed pockets of pasta, but enough is enough for three days straight!

I just realized that there is a "memories" option on LJ that I think I will start using. I'm still not entirely familiar with all the goodies on here, so I'll have to do some more snooping around the site and see what it has to offer :)

I took a lovely nap today (I needed it) but it wasn't nearly long enough. Luckily my shower woke me up. Anyway, I have to go dry my hair because my dinner is in half an hour and I don't think wet hair is suitable for "business attire" :P

More later... not sure if I'm going out tonight or not (I'm absolutely exhausted!!)

Why don't accented letters show up on my livejournal? Like when I want to put an accent over the e in Antoine de Saint-Exupery by using alt+0233 it just turns into a question mark, although on my livejournal agent it shows up fine.

Anyone have any hints on how I can make accented letters show up?

ziukkinna reminded me in one of the comments she posted of a project I was going to do a while before... make a list of songs that remind me of people and places in my past. So here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head (yeah, the coffee kicked in a bit ago so I'm not going to bed for a while yet but am still too knackered to do anything productive).

I'd also be interested to hear if any of you have memories associated with songs...

Sooo exhausted...................

Thesis defense went swimmingly (well, at least it was less painful than I'd anticipated) and I was awarded honors (yay! although whether or not high honors was awarded is yet to be seen. I don't find out for another week or so). We went to Hamilton 2.8.5. for dinner afterwards... I had a lovely mozarella and asparagus ravioli with some delicious vodka-based creme sauce. My examiners were all very chill, which was also a plus. Phew... honors is done!! Yay!

But now I'm knackered and need to just relax and go to bed relatively early. I could pass out any minute... wine and a big meal just put me out.

My room is definitely going through a thorough tidying tomorrow... I can't see my floor, lol!

Ooh and my posters arrived today! The astrid one is fucking HUGE! I don't know if I have the wallspace for it! The Reindeer Section and Camera Obscura ones are fairly normal-sized, but the astrid one is a behemoth! Larger than life ;)

Anyway, time to zone out and maybe read a little bit. Going to huddle under my duvet as it's frigging cold in my room. Brr!

I just want to send a big "thanks" and hugs to all of you who commented on my inebriated whinging about Chris. It's always comforting to know that people can relate and it's grounding to hear people say, with confidence, that it will pass. :)

I have to defend my thesis in 3 hours.... eek! I am going to be a nervous wreck. I can't stand being put on the spot like that. I am neurotically inarticulate when it comes to these things.

Anyway, I have to go prepare a bit more and get a bit of food in me, change my clothes, etc. More later :)

I will add, now, that Jennifer Kay Moberg mobespierre is a beautiful and loving person and I can't even imagine my life without her. Mobes... you are my lifeblood, my anchor, my pendulum. You keep me grounded, you remind me of everything beautiful in the world. You have blessed my life. I've never had a more wonderful and dearest friend and... damn, I can't even articulate how much you mean to me.

Mo... you're the best. And don't ever forget it. Whatever you need, I am here. And I know you are for me as well.

Someday I will be able to show you how much you mean to me. Until then you'll just have to take these simple words as an indication. I love you, Jenn!

Oh, and you'd best have the wee cogs in your cute head grinding, thinking of ways to visit me once I'm in London. And we're going out and getting shitty after graduation. I can't celebrate without you ;)

Music:Stone Roses - "She Bangs the Drums".
Ahhh... very silly night for Eli's birthday. I drank more than I should've (considering I have to defend my thesis tomorrow) but ah well...good friends' birthdays only come but once a year!

Mmmmmm the Reindeer Section... if any guy ever said any of these things to me I think I would simply melt into a puddle of mush. Take, for example, the song "If Everything Fell Quiet":

Be my guide, be my pilot
Be the breath on my face
Be the arms aching for me
Be the heart in my chest

This is the way I want you to look in my eyes
I couldn't face another night like that again

Be my hope, I'll be your hope
Be the hair that knots with my hair
Be the drink when I am thirsty
Be the hand I'll hold at night

This is the way I want you to look in my eyes
I couldn't face another night like that again

Damn... that is some sexy shit. Gary Lightbody rocks my socks...

Anyway. I want a boyfriend. I know, I know... it's very silly to be this way when I am moving to London (it really still hasn't hit me yet...) in a mere 5 months but I am so lonley :( I AM GRADUATING COLLEGE IN 17 DAYS!!! It's just so insane... I mean, I'm glad that I have no one to take into consideration when making my decision, but still... I want someone to love.

::sigh:: Argh I know a few of you are going to scold me, but I really miss Chris. Menswe@r's "Being Brave" just came on my MP3s and god it makes me ache for him. I'm fucking in love with the boy... there's just no hope, is there? I can't stand it... I can't even fucking listen to Travis' The Man Who anymore because that is what we listened to when we first spent those three nights together a year and a half ago in Oxford. WHY!? Why can't I get over him? What did he do to touch me so very deeply?

WHAT THE FUCK...

No, worry not, I'm not thinking of reneging on my decision to get back in touch with him... that would be even less healthy than the horrible feelings I have now. But I fucking loved him. I still love him. And what did he do to deserve this love? Nothing... except being perfect. The perfect asshole.

Oh dear, U2's "One" just came on and it so perfectly fits that situation... I hate doing this, but I feel shitty so I'm going to anyway:

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you
Now you've got someone to blame?

Yeah... um, this reminds me of October with Chris in NYC, when it's like he could've totally blamed me about his breakup with his girlfriend, Christine. And I think he tried to, for a while...

You said 'One love, one life'
When it's one need in the night
One love, we get to share it
It leaves you baby if you don't care for it

Chris' mantra, interestingly enough, used to be "one love." Well, guess what, Chris... if you're going to keep me hanging on loving you while you love another, I'm gone... I don't need this shit. Hence the last two lines above.

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without?

So what did I do to make you hate me like this? Was it giving you everything I had? Was it loving you unconditionally, even though you didn't want that love? You make me suffer through this unrequited love and then act like it doesn't matter? Like my love isn't genuine (or maybe just not Christine's love?)

Well it's too late tonite
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One

This verse reminds me of two things. The first two lines exactly sum up last October in NYC... let's just ignore the past year and maybe it'll resolve itself. But it didn't. And about carrying each other... Chris had once written to me that we (last spring) were "carrying each other along our own painful paths, not knowing that we were hurting for the same reasons." One, but not the same....

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?

So why, exactly, did you get in contact with me again after you ignored me over the summer, Chris? Was there some sore you needed to heel? Did I fester in your memory? You knew it should've been different...

Did I ask too much?
More than alot.
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I've got

What did I ask? For you to love me. For you to at least acknowledge my love. And it was "more than alot" to ask, apparently. You gave me nothing but heartache and that's all I'm left with. Just pain.

We're one, but we're not the same
Well we hurt each other then we do it again

We used to just keep perpetuating this painful cycle of hurting each other... I don't know if he hurt, honestly... I doubt he did. But for me it was the most incomprehensible pain I'd ever experienced. We'd go through the drama and pain, become friends again, then be stupid and sleep together again and I'd be hurt again. It wasn't until I decided that it wasn't healthy for me to talk to him (i.e., a month ago) that this cycle stopped... now I'm just hurting myself by missing him unbearably.

You say, 'Love is a temple, love the higher law'
Love is a temple, Love the higher law?
You ask me to enter and then you make me crawl
And I can't keep holding on to what you've got
When all you got is hurt...

Argh... he went on and on about the importance of love... the beauty of love. And then when he invited me to love him (maybe he didn't... but that's what I took with his sex and friendship) he pushed me so far down, made me feel so hellish. And I decided that I couldn't hold onto him any longer when all it was was "hurt." Give love, given hurt. How very tragic...

Anyway, that's enough cheesy analysis of U2 lyrics for the moment... I apologize... I just miss him so much I feel like I can't breathe without him. I fake it. I fake being ok without him. But a piece of me is gone... sure you can survive without a kidney or a lung... but you aren't whole, you're not healthy.

Only those of you who have loved and lost and were never loved by that person in the first place can even comprehend what I am saying. I loved him and never expected anything back... I knew he couldn't love me, he loved someone else. But it doesn't mean he had to keep ripping my heart open. I would've given anything to him... anything. He just had to give the word. I would've easily laid down my life for him. Without hesitation. All this and nothing in return. Never have I been so selfless.

And what did I get in return? Heartache.

Fuck.

I miss him. I think I'll go cry myself to sleep. Why can't I fall out of love with him? He is my heart... he is my everything.

I can't take it... I just can not take it. I have never loved so deeply. I have never been willing to sacrifice everything and anything to one person. And the thing is... all I want is his happiness. Seriously. It crushed me more to hear that he was heartbroken over Christine than to hear that he was beginning to heal. I know he is a beautiful person and I know that he will bless the lives of so many people... he certainly blessed mine. I can grin through the pain. It's more important to me that I love. I love Chris. And the more time that passes, the more I believe that nothing will change that.

Guess I'll go cry myself to sleep... haven't done that since I last heard from him.

Um... riiiight... I posted 6 entries today (although this one will be put under tomorrow since it's gone midnight). Bored much?! All complete nonsense, too. Ahh such is my life ;)

Eli and I went to the cafe for dinner tonite... mmm grilled cheese! Very silly reminiscing about Friday night... she's still poking me in the ribs about the frosh. ;) Tomorrow is her birthday (oh wait... now it's today!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELISABETH!! (balloons and streamers fly about)

Hehe! Ye old git... 22 years old! ;)

Anyway, we had a good laugh... lovely to chill with that girl, she cracks me up. We're both well random.

What else? We're playing games in medieval popular culture tomorrow. Yes, playing games. Like duck-duck-goose and ring around the rosie. Ahhhh higher education... such a good class to take my senior spring!

Oh, and would anyone mind explaining this to me?:

Riiight.

Anyway... I'm still looking for a summer job... looks like I will probably be delivering mail, which I think would actually be rather neat. Outdoors in the summertime, getting a bit of exercise walking around, $10 an hour, working on my own (big plus!), driving one of those silly trucks... not too shabby for four months. I really don't want to go back to the patisserie.

Wow... I graduate in 18 days!!

"I'm not living, I'm just killing time...."

Right, so it's time for bed because I shouldn't miss class tomorrow. I really hope there aren't any more weird shufflings in the corner of my room tonight! Honestly I would probably have a right spaz if I saw a ghost. I know some people aren't scared of them at all, but I sure as fuck am! Well, annoyed anyway, since they decide to make a racket and not let me rest. Go away, ghosts! I have to sleeeeeep!

Spooky shit, man...

So... a very productive mall trip (how often do those happen, I ask you?). Well, it didn't start off that way. I hate going to the mall... I really do. I like shopping in little markets or independently owned shops, where it's like an adventure. The sterile feeling of the mall just kind of annoys me. Anyway, I went to J Crew to try on jeans and... yeah, first of all I was a size bigger than I thought I was and when I tried them on I looked like Humpty Dumpty (big, round middle perched on spindly legs). They were "low-rise flare" (if by low-rise you mean "up to your armpits" and by flare you mean "tapered"). I haven't bought new clothes in ages, so I had no idea if I'd gained a lot of weight or what (since I never weigh myself). I mean, I'd noticed that I'd become a little... erm... soft about the middle but I didn't think I'd grown that much. Anyway, they were having a sale so I bought a cute little white shirt to go with my denim worker skirt. I moved on to Abercrombie and Fitch, not expecting anything since it's so expensive and doesn't generally suit my tastes... and of course it was perfect. Found a pair of perfect, dark denim hipster flares that were a size smaller than I thought I was. AND they were under $40!! I was so happy that I bought some perfume, too! Due to my good mood, I popped across the hall and bought an Orange Julius to make the trip complete.

Mall Numbers:

5: pairs of jeans tried on
1: blow to self-esteem in J Crew
60: dollars spent
1: very cute white shirt on sale
2: stores visited
30: minutes total spent shopping
1: very successful shopping trip! yay! :D

Crikey... I guess my journal has steadily become more boring lately... two people dropped me from their friends lists!

I know it's just livejournal or whatever, but don't you kind of take it personally? Meh... oh well.

Guess I'm not going to class since it starts in... oh... 10 minutes ;)
