So, Envy crashed in at number 21. Not too bad i guess, considering most places were closed on bank holiday monday, and a lot of places didn't stock it. It'll get in the Irish top ten anyway. :D Anyway, Intergalactic sonic sevens will get to number one for sure. Can't wait til monday <3

I saw the video for Envy today for the first time. It was so great. They rock my socks right off, they're so cool. And looking through the community, I see the last 500 or so messages are from me...just want to reassure everyone that I'm not obsessed, just excited.

In ten short days, I'll be in Las Vegas for the Ash/Coldplay show. I'm starting to get nervous. What if I embarrass myself? I'd like to say something interesting...something other than mindless fawning and "Oh my God, you're so great!! I can't believe I'm talking to you!! You're so great!! I love you!!" But what do you talk to a rock star about in the time it takes him to sign your CD sleeve? I'd like to invite Tim to get in my pocket and come home with me...but as that's highly unlikely, I'd settle for not making an ass out of myself. Those of you who've met them, what would you suggest??

Does anyone know anything about the release date for Slashed?? I hear something new everytime I check and I don't want to miss it. I assume it isn't coming out with Envy now, but an Ash video DVD? Does anyone know anything about this??

6:14 pm - 1977

So my copy of 1977 finally came in the mail Monday. I was so excited. I'd been waiting for weeks. I was a little worried before I got it because I know how young the boys were when the songs were written and the album released. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. But on the whole I was quite impressed. How can you not like songs like Kung Fu and Girl From Mars?? They aren't particularly deep or insightful, but they're sooo much fun. So, I was grooving along with the CD, studying for a final at the library and I had this gut feeling that there was a hidden track, so I let track 12 play through and afterward I was extremely sorry that I had listened to my instincts. I can usually forget that Tim, Mark and Rick were 18 year old boys when I listen to these songs, but when I heard them laughing that uproariously at someone vomiting...I was a little embarrassed for them. Okay, I was a lot embarrassed for them. What were they thinking? You know, I ask myself that a lot about this band. It seems they just can't do anything that'll make me not like them. Hmmm.

The drummer from Irish rock band Ash has been injured in a bus crash while on tour with the group in the U. S. Rick McMurray cracked his ribs in the incident, while the band were on the way to Detroit to play a gig. None of the other members of the band were injured. The crash happened when the bus hit a tyre while overtaking a truck on a motorway.
From Radio1... Exclusive: Tim talks to R1 after Ash bus crash Last updated 19 August 2002
Tim from Ash has told Radio 1 their Reading/Leeds appearances could be in jeopardy after the band's drummer was injured in a bus crash near Detroit.
It happened last Friday while the band were touring with Moby. Ash were flung from their bunks when their bus hit a tyre on the road and overturned.
Rick McMurray hurt his ribs as a result of the accident. He's now being checked out back home in Belfast to see if any of them are broken.
Tim from the band described to Radio 1 what happened:
"Basically, we were woken up, things were flying everywhere; smashed my head on the top of the bunk, and we ground to a standstill."
"I look up and there's like Charlotte lying in the middle of the aisle of the bus - bags everywhere - and then Rick sticks his head out from underneath Charlotte - it was pretty scary!"
Ash are due to appear at the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend, and Tim admitted that it won't go ahead if Rick isn't well enough:
"We wouldn't have time to rehearse anyone else, and we just wouldn't do it without him. I guess we'll find out in the next few days - fingers crossed."

10:10 pm - September 7 with Coldplay
|

I saw Ash in Austin, TX with Our Lady Peace in July, and I have to be honest, I didn't really care for them. Whoever set up their sound that night did an awful job and I couldn't hear them, even though I was in the third row. But they had mad energy and the superfan with ten feet of hair who was standing in front of me and kept stepping on my toe made me think there might be something to this bad (and Tim being a hottie kinda helped, as well). So I did a little research and totally fell in love with them!! They're so great and so much fun and it's wonderful to finally come across a band who is enjoying what they do and not playing depressing, please-shoot-me-in-the-head music.
Anyway, I bought tickets to go see them with Coldplay in Las Vegas on September 7...I wanted one more chance to see them live before they leave the states. I have my little heart pretty much set on meeting them...at least Tim, less because he's cute and more because his lyrics are phenomenal (his vocabulary amazes me). But after reading the account posted by wizzfizz last October, I'm a little concerned that I'll be disappointed, not to mention heartbroken. And Las Vegas is a long way from Austin, especially at the very beginning of the semester. I don't want to have to demand my money back. Please someone tell me they've had better experiences than this, because I've heard that they're all really nice. Maybe it was just a bad night for Mark and Tim?

Hey! I am Bryn (new here and from Tacoma, WA) and I honestly don't understand why Ash isn't everyone's favourite band. They are perfect. Their lyrics are so amazing and dreamy.. They just really make me happy and sentimental about things. They remind me of being in high school and having crushes and problems, and how the summer is so beautiful. Does anyone else feel this way? You must!?

Hey I am Michelle, and new here. But not at all new to Ash, I have been waiting forever for them to make their way to my side of the globe and lucky for me they have. So I have seen 'em twice and just got the tix for them and Coldplay in September. Oh I have been spoiled. That is all.

hey there, my name is martin. i've been an ash fan for a while (a friend put "girl from mars" on a mix tape, i've been hooked since). i've seen them twice here in providence, rhode island (the smallest state in the U.S.A., and we're not an island): free show opening for unwritten law and free acoustic show at newbury comics the day the album came out, at which i also met them and got a picture with tim. i gave a greeting card to charlotte that said "happy easter" too. i wish i could see them at area:two but i'll be on vacation. i think the new album is wonderful and i just wanted to say hello. so, hello all.

....
And perhaps more importantly God has created, quite simply, the scientifically-proven no doubt perfect festival band. And he called them Ash. Still as fresh and exciting as when they first exploded with 'Jack Names The Planets', they encapsulate everything that's great about Glastonbury and festivals in general. You may not necessarily own any of their records, but it's impossible to resist the likes of 'Girl From Mars', 'Goldfinger' and a no nonsense reading of 'Shining Light'. ...

Hi, I just joined this lj group. I love Ash, seen them twice before live. Once at Bristol and once in Swindon. I have a pic of me with Tim and another with Rick to prove it! :-D. I also post on their official message board, though I haven't reached 1000 posts yet, like many of the other members of it.
I'm Mike, 17 and live in Cornwall which is in the south west of England. :)
Good to be here!

I haven't posted here since I joined a few months back, but I just saw Ash for the first time on Sunday at WBCN's River Rave 2002, in Boston and thought I should say something. They were excellent; did a good 40 minute set. Definitely worth the 4 hour drive up. Got to meet Tim and talk to him for a bit, and also talked to Mark for a little. They seemed like genuinely nice guys, definitely the best performance at the festival all day. Tim also confirmed that they're trying to put together a tour with Coldplay for later in the year, so I'm very happy about that! I'm also going to see them at Area Two in August. oh well, just wanted to share my experience. talk to you all soon.

Hi, newbie here (to the journal not the band).
To the guy that complained that the band weren't overly sociable with him: Mark is generally really shy and quiet until you get to know him... it sounds like Rick was his normal self, but Tim is usually infectiously outgoing and ready to chat to anyone/take pics/sign shit... He really must have been out of it and hey! why not: they were on tour after all ;)
Anywho, I'll go now, considering I've probably pissed off all the people in the community in one fell swoop!
Cherry x
