Well, I remain jobless though I've been doing the flyer thing for the Chatterbox to keep an income. It's been a great deal easier than last year when it was over 90 degrees with no wind and a humidity level much akin to walking through water. I need to find something soon however. Is it just me or is everybody unemployed right now? I only wish I had the unemployment/severence packages that most everyone else I know seems to have. There is a production stage manager position open at Steppingstone Theatre here in St. Paul. It would be a nice change.
Still planning to hit CONvergence this year. Unfortunately, isn't going to be able to attend. ATPH will be playing a show in NYC that weekend. If anyone has some open space at the hotel I might be interested in buying in.

12:03 pm - Bowie CD Release Party
|
So tomorrow night bohemianlykeu and I are planning to head over to Sursumcorda. The DJ there plays a lot of great music, but in particular this week is going to have a David Bowie theme going on. They're going to be giving away a number of Bowie related materials including copies of his new CD, "Heathen" which I've been hearing only greta things about. If anyone wants to come along we'd love the additional friends. The whole thing is kind of low key and offers a great atmosphere for listening to good music whilr still being able to comfortably sit and chat with friends. Mind you this isn't to say that dancing is not encouraged. We've had fun there before, but the more the merrier. Hope some of you all can come out. Also has anyone noticed that BLONDIE is slated to play at the Taste of Minnesota this summer. Sure it is a CONvergence night (July 6th), but it is a free BLONDIE show and relatively early in the eve ning (7:30p start time).

3:40 pm - Challenging weekend
|
Actually, it was just a lousy weekend. I've been sick since Friday afternoon. Sick sucks!! Well, I did manage to go to the formal cocktail party at the Pirate House. They've been doing some remodeling there. It was looking pretty cool with the dark walls and silver metallic trim, and doors. I had a decent time, but I didn't really have the energy to be too social. Just wandered around for a few hours Ended up calling in sick today to work also. Everytime I think this thing is licked it seems to kick back into gear. Ugh :( Anyway, it was a pretty crappy day, and I probably wouldn't have had to work due to rain. Still, if I was feeling a bit healthier I could have taken advantage and gone to do some job hunting. And lord knows that bohemianlykeu could do without all of my coughing and sighing.

10:40 am - Roadtrip!!
|
bohemianlykeu and I just purchased our tickets for the Area2 Festival. The closest their getting to here is Chicago so we'll be making a trek down to the city of broad shoulders at the beginning of August (Agust 8th to be exact). Anyway, it's an outdoor show and we got the $53 pavillion tickets (plus some crazy Ticketmaster fees). It should be a great show, what with Moby, David Bowie, Busta Rhymes, Blue Man Group, Ash, Carl Cox and others. Anybody else interested in going? Tickets just went on sale this morning at 10a, and they range from $33- $53.

5:48 pm - Catching up once more
|
This weekend was great.
I picked up bohemianlykeu and S from the airport. They apparently had a great show the night before at True. Sadly, Em's visit to see her dream boy seems to have created more questions than answers. 'So why can't I be a "dream boy"?' is my question. Anyway, it was really nice to have her back. I managed to sort out the whole apartment, and go get my hair chopped before she was due in. (I wanted to surprise her with the short hair, no goatee/beard look) eatstoomuchjam told me of a couple parties happening that night, but while for an inkling bohemianlykeu seemed interested it only took a few minutes for her travel weariness to catch up with her and change her mind. I just made a nice little dinner for the two of us and we relaxed at home for the night.
The next day, however, was the Loring Block Party. (Thanks to irisjack for letting me know about it.) Em and I headed down pretty early for the festivities. In fact, we got there before most people, and well before even the first of the many bands had begun to play or even soundcheck. We ran into a friend, Hultman, and sat inside the Loring for a while chatting and having some beverages. The weather kept threatening to turn very wet, but we never got hit with more than a few drops at any given time. Eventually we ran into quite a few people, though not so many from any particular grouping of friends. irisjack, revjoel, M, and R were there. I got a chance to chat with Mary Lucia and get caught up on all the BLB/Suburban World gossip. (Apparently after a couple weeks of the BLB taking over the Suburban World prettty much the entire theatre staff left, she'd been booking the music acts) Ran into one of the producers of the local indy film, "Summer Solstice" while standing in line at the least populated porta-potty out in the middle of Loring Park. Apparrently theirSummer Solstice release date is looking like it won't be happening due to the strife at the Suburban World, which is apparently closing for the month of June due to contract negotiations between old and new ownership. We were trying to come up with some viable alternatives. (For those who don't know "Summer Solstice" features performances by All The Pretty Horses, and Like Hell at the Turf Club. The plan for the Summer Solstice showing included having the bands play live sets as a part of the evening thus limiting the possibilites for venues. They figure they need to be able to accomodate an audience of at least 300 people.) Anyway, we saw and talked with many others and had on overall fantastic time. In particular I had a lot of fun dancing to the Vibrochamps with irisjack, and bohemianlykeu. In fact I even had fun getting beaten up by M, and chastised by the lead singer for throwing in a bit of the "Macarena" for comedy's sake. In the end we were there from 12:45p to 11:15p. We enjoyed music by VioVoom, Flim Flam Man, the Kings of France, Vibrochamps, Faux Jean, Savage Aural Hotbed, 12 Rods, and others. We also didn't enjoy music by a few other bands whose names I won't mention because I never saw fit to learn them. Funny thing, the whole day was grey and rainy, but once it got dark the sky cleared to show off a brilliant full moon. The whole thing was capped off by a fun little fireworks display. Too bad that there won't be anymore Loring Block Parties, at least not at that location. I can't picture such a thing somewhere else, but we'll see what Jason pulls out of his hat.
On Memorial Day itself Em and I were invited over for a deliciously entertaining dinner party by ethel. She'd been cooking away, in perhaps the hottest apartment I've ever experienced, and created a rather wonderful collection of vegetarian fare that even I enjoyed (the meat-biased food connoiseur that I am). We got to spend the evening eating, and chatting picnic-style in her living room along with alisgray, 433, hedgiewan, and abiku. Later we made a short trek to the Saloon for Hard Monday's. I had a good time. That seems to happen when the patio is open. Unfortunately, I had to take off early as my alarm is set for 6:50a every weekday now. Still didn't get much sleep, but that's the cost of living these days.

5:03 pm - It's a sunshine day...
|
So my work crew is now down to my operations manager and myself. The one guy was moved to a different crew this week, and today the other girl, Sonja, quit after about 2 hours because she couldn't deal with the heights. I seem to be getting better with the ladders, but there is a part of this house where you have to stand on a roof to paint, and it is a really extreme slope. My shoes couldn't really get much traction, and slid a bit several times. I think I need to invest in some "sneakers" or just give up the ones I have to the paint gods. Anyway, I have one more day painting within 5 minutes of home, hopefully it will be like today but maybe a bit cooler. Also, Brian, my OM's manager, spent the day painting with me, because my OM had to leave early to go move. He was telling me that they have a BBQ at the office every Thursday. Free food!!!
Such is the excitement of my life these days. Actually I think I'm getting a handle on this new schedule/workload. I'm beginning to feel better in general. Maybe from being outside? Maybe from being more active? Maybe because I got my hair cut? Hmm, I think it's the hair.

6:19 pm - Somewhere over the rainbow is West St. Paul
|
I just noticed that there are two rainbows, one above the other spanning across the Mississippi right now. There is something inately magical in rainbows I think. Sure I understand the idea of sunlight refracting through raindrops to cause a primatic affect, but why always such a perfect semi-circle? And what exactly is the colored light reflecting off of so I can see it? I don't think I've ever seen the purple sprectrum so clearly before. Wow, today has turned out much nicer than it originally portended.
I'm picking up Em at the airport tonight. Yay!! Even managed to get the whole place back in order finally.
Does anyone know of anything going on this weekend? Picnic, parties, or the like? Just curious, what with an extra day off and all.

Yesterday we finished our first house. And it almost killed me. Well, not really. I was just so utterly exhausted last night I might as well have been dead. For some reason yesterday just wiped me out. Today on the other hand was a nice time. First I got a pleasant surprise in the form of a call this morning saying I had an extra hour to get ready. My OM (Operations Manager) lives in Menomenie and was caught in some pretty major traffic. We didn't start until 9a. Also the job was in south Minneapolis, and I was able to take Shepard Rd. there. (Quick and pretty) When I got there I saw that it was a ranch style house (No death defying ladder work), and all we had to paint was the trim on the garage and a couple doors. Done in a day. Also we all drove over to have lunch at the base of Minnehaha Falls. I love that place. I saw a fox running through the woods . It jumped into one of the openings in the large staircase south of the falls. It was pretty large. About the size of a coyote, but with red hair, and a black/white tip of the tail. I'm thinking about heading to the Chatterbox tonight. Haven't decided yet. I don't have to be at work until 9 again tomorrow, because we ended up a day ahead of schedule on the first house and don't actually have an assignment. I think we also get to bail early as we've been putting in some extra time each day. Is anything going on this weekend?

Feeling a bit lost. It's a bit too warm here, and the place is pretty much torn asunder. I started a wholesale cleaning binge last weekend. I haven't been able to get the place reassmebled yet, partially because of work but really because I've been feeling totally out of whack since Em left. Kind of pathetic I realize, but this place really feels empty. It's gonna be a long week unless I can get a handle on being alone. Looking forward to the holiday weekend though.

9:42 pm - Feeling a little hot under the collar
|
Today was my first day of work painting houses. Last Saturday was training. I had to be in Stillwater at 8am. (a bit early for me) Somehow I managed to get there, and actually had a pretty good day. It felt good working a full 8 hour day outside in some beautiful spring weather. In fact I got a bit of a sunburn, and strangely enough it feels good.

Well I just got home from my first day as a house painter. Actually today was just training. I think it will be a pretty good gig for the summer. I'm looking forward to having my nights and weekends free. The last few evenings have been a bit of a sampler of that and I've been having a blast.
Feels a little strange coming home however, knowing that bohemianlykeu is on her way to NYC for the week. A friend of mine last night was talking about how she can't adjust to having a roommate. I have a hard time adjusting to not having one. Critters don't quite have the same affect.

2:58 am - Overall a pretty fun couple of days
|
I had a great time going to see Star Wars last night. I didn't originally plan on going out of my way to see it, but once I heard of the very large group of friends planning on going it just sounded like it would be a good time. I hadn't been to a big en masse movie going event in years so I picked up a couple tickets for Em and I during my free time that afternoon after my final video critique. What a fantastic night for sitting on the cobblestone along the Mississippi with friends, costumed and not.
The movie itself was fun. It has some terrifically funny moments, killer action scenes, and some of the worst dialogue and romantic scenes I think I've ever seen. Lucas really needs to really try avoiding the whole love scene thing. Not only couldn't he seem to write a decent love scene, but apparently he couldn't direct or edit any scene even remotely involved with that subplot.
On the other hand Yoda kicks ass!! (literally) And the visual fx were once again incredible. Also Jar Jar was relegaated to minimal air time.
Tonight I decided to head over to the Chatterbox. The place was really quite packed. Saw a lot of friends. Most of whom work there, but a number of others who don't. Ended up hanging out the whole night bopping from one conversation to the next. In 2 weeks DJs Rahna and Fenris have decided to do an all cover/remake/sample music night. If you have a copy of some crazy cover tune bring it in and they'll play it . Not next Thursday, but the following one.
I've been finding myself having a growing urge to make a movie recently. When I first started college I wanted to go for filmmaking, but eventually shifted to live theatre. The last couple years I've been working at a video studio, and this past semester took a video class through the art department. All of this, and a few other things have been bringing that filmmaking urge back to the surface. I think I'm going to start working on a script.

7:26 pm - Managed to get Star Wars tickets

Well, I managed to buy 2 of the last 7 tickets for tonight's midnight Star Wars showing at St. Anthony Main so bohemianlykeu and I will be heading out and hopefully see lots of crazy folk at the theater. We're actually planning on hitting Pizza Luce for dinner at 8:30 before heading down to the river. Anyone wanna join in?

11:22 am - Done with my head
|
So one of my two projects is done. The sculpture project is finito and ready for the critique tonight. Nothing to interesting, it definitely looks like a class assignment type project. We molded heads out of clay. The we made plaster molds of the heads, and cast them in our choice of densite or concrete. Mine is basically a robot head with cables, bolts, etc. and a totally smooth, featureless face except for small holes mimicing a speaker box mouth. The best part is the finishing. I was watching Trading Spaces on TLC and saw them paint a wooden wall with metal. They then sprayed a patina over the wall and it turned into a beautiful rust. Anyway, I went off to Michael's and found just the thing. I wasn't sure if it would really work, but I coated almost the whole sculpture in this dark, dull, gray paint(?) Not to interesting. I then went into the metal shop and grabbed a red rust patina spray and just hosed it down several times. It didn't really seem to be doing anything other than add an orange hue to it all. After leaving and coming back later however it was all rusty. Even in the cable areas which weren't painted to rust the water had settled in between causing rust deposits to form. It looked pretty cool. I'll throw up a pic in the next day or so.
Now I just need to get my video project done in less than 24 hours. Spent most of the night in the studio recording interview footage of myself. Setting levels in a studio by one's self can be a definite challenge, not to mention time wasting and annoying.

12:44 pm - Stranded at the Drive-In
|
I was reading Neil Gaiman's online journal yesterday. He mentioned going to see Spiderman at the drive-in. I forgot all about drive-ins. This summer I think I definitely want to do some group outings to the drive-in. I know there are a couple around the Twin Cities still. Anyone game?

11:52 am - School School Go Away
|
Well, the school year is almost over. About time. I'm through with being a full time student. Again, about time.
Sure I still have a couple classes before I actually graduate with a degree, but that has never really been my goal in this anyway. I'll get it in a year or so. Two projects and its all over. (video and sculpture) I'm in the midst of painting my sculpture project. I bought this metal paint, that I'm going to take in and spray with a patina to turn it rusty. I just need a bloody paint brush. I'm actually so poor right now that I can't afford a silly paintbrush. Tonight at work I'm going to record the voiceover stuff for my video project. Tomorrow will be all about editting.

4:26 pm - Missing messages
|
So I just realized why it is that my Friends list is always seeming so inactive. I tend to not think to log in when I check out my account because I come to it from the little Livejournal updater program thingy. I've been missing all of these protected messages people write. Why is it that that little program thing can't log a person in when they go to the livejournal site from one of its menu options?
Anyway, it is another rainy day here in Minnesota. I've been enjoying the thunder and lightning all day, but could use a little sunshine for my video project. Just like 4 minutes. Is that too much to ask. Well, time to start getting ready for the fetish ball. For anyone I haven't harassed with a flyer-
