I was left staring out the plate glass at the lushness of a willow, long after he'd hurried home to her.
I forgot about my work, my family, the weather. Everything. I almost forgot to pay the check. Walking slowly across the park, in no hurry to get back to the office, I couldn't think of anything, except his hands.

~~ excerpt of Lunch, (c) Viggo Mortensen

My journal is friends-only. I do welcome new friends, so please let me know if you'd like to be added to my friends list and we'll talk. :)

Something to read, something to think about -- chances are, if you disagree with these two things (first is a poem by Ani DiFranco, second is a transcript of a portion of an interview with Viggo Mortensen, about the "war" in the middle east), we will probably clash. These two pieces sum up how I feel about many things currently going on in our world, and while I don't always talk about it, I do sometimes. Disagreeing with me is fine, but be prepared; I don't back down. :-)

Other things you should know about me:

  • I'm one of those people who woke up one morning, asked myself "if I were denied the ability to create, would I die?" and found that the answer was yes.
  • To that end, I am a writer. I aspire to be an artist in other mediums as well.
  • On my ever-changing list of "people I aspire to be more like," four names have remained over the last five or so years, longer than any others: Aaron Sorkin, Sheri Tepper, Viggo Mortensen and my mother.
  • I'm over 21, under 35 -- that's all you need to know about that.
  • The only thing that comes close to being as important to me as my writing is my politics. I'm pro-choice, an equalatarian and I don't think "liberal" is a dirty word.
  • I am against the "war" on terrorism and any first-strike military action in the middle east. To quote a man I admire above most others, "No more blood for oil."
  • I'm a former dotcom-er, but unfortunately, I never got rich off it.
  • I sometimes work in the entertainment industry. I, like everyone else, want to direct. I also want to be a (paid) screenwriter. The latter is more important to me.

My journal is a place to both comment on and escape from the day-to-day of life. Much of what you'll find here is utterly frivolous, because life is just too serious sometimes. Be assured, I do share the serious side, just not as often as the silly side, of late.

Am I really to believe that these are that acts of a loving God? A just God? A wise God? To hell with your punishments. I was your servant, your messenger on the earth; I did my duty. To hell with your punishments. To hell with you! (translated from Latin)

"People want leadership and in the absence of genuine leadership they'll listen to whoever steps up to the microphone. They want leadership, they're so thirsty for it that they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand."

"Lewis, we've had presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty, they drink the sand because they don't know the difference."
