Oooh, something more. I was selected for the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship at U Hawai'i, which drops my estimated _yearly_ tuition down to $5,112. This is certainly something more to consider.
But they also want me to send a tuition deposit by 18 Mar. That's likely well before I get any other responses. :P

Happiness comes in the male. Er, that too. I received a little weasel in the mail! Thanks rat!
I received something else in the mail today. I FINALLY received an acceptance letter to a university! I'm still waiting on my primary university choices to get back to me, but at least I've something now! Unfortunately, it's out of state. And off continent. But at least the weather's nice. University of Hawai'i at Manoa. I wouldn't mind going there, but they don't have the area of archaeology I'm primarily interested in, which is medieval northern Europe. And since it's not a big name school, it could make getting into grad school harder. But I'll see what comes up during these next few months.

Went to a party last night. It was an interesting change, cos I didn't get utterly smashed, even though there was ample opportunity. Only three drinks during the course of the night. It was really rather different. And I had a good time! Got to see people I hadn't seen in a long time, and others I should make a point to see more often.

Bask in the warmth of my glowing ball! You are the Sun card. The light of the Sun reveals all. The Sun is joyful and bright, without fear or reservation. The childish nature of the Sun allows you to play and feel free. Exploration can truly take place in the light of day when nothing is hidden. The Sun's rays fill you with energy so that you may live life to its fullest, milking pleasure out of each day. Such joy and energy can bring wealth and physical pleasure. To shine in the light of day is to have confidence, to soak up its rays is to feel the freedom of a child. Funny story, and a not funny story While I was on the phone with my dad the other day, he told me he got yelled at by a cop a few days ago. Apparently, he was driving in his typical oblivious-to-the-world style, going about 20mph over the speed limit of 35. The cop caught up to him, and yelled out the window that he was driving too fast, and needed to slow down. He then took a better look at my dad, and seeing an old, Asian man, shouted in a thick, southern accent, "You.. Slow... Down."
Pretty funny. But different than my reaction would have been at seeing an old Filipino man behing the wheel of a moving vehicle driving faster than reasonably, ESPECIALLY if that old Filipino man was my dad, which would be to seek shelter. Come to think of it, it's no wonder I sometimes have issues with being a passenger in moving vehicles.
Now the not funny story.
It seems pretty close to certain that I'll be moving this summer. Still don't know where, though. I screwed my chances of getting into the only university that would have allowed me to keep living in my current place, by not missing the deadline for application, but not realizing that the required test's date had passed a month ago. Not as if I had much chance at getting into Stanford anyway. So, damn. There's still some hope I can stay in the bay area, but Berkeley's also hard school to get into. So unfortunately, it may be likely I have to move far away. Which would suck in a bad way.

Musical observations There's a whole lot of music by Yes that just should never have been. Which is too bad, cos some of their stuff was truly amazing.
I really want to smack James La Brie during live Dream Theater performances. Anyone else feel that way? They need to take the mic away from him when he's not singing. His sorry attempts at getting the audience worked up severely detract from the music. Many times, I've been happily listening to a song in the background, and then I'll hear this screamy 'How's it goeeeeEEEEEeeeEEEEEeeeeeEEEEeeeeEEEeenNNNNNN???". I've automaticly become accustomed to changing the song at that point.

Spring is in the air! My allergies have started. As much as I love the warmer weather... I've been keeping pretty busy lately. A friend of mine from back in MI was out here at the Alternative Press Expo showing off her graphic novel. http://www.vogelein.com/. I brought along Mike and Becky, the couple who lived in the other half of the duplex I lived in when I first came back to California. I hadn't seen them in nearly a year, so thought I'd spend some time catching up. I had never been to one of these cons before, and I was commenting how anywhere one goes to these sorts of cons, ie furry, comic, alt. press, sci-fi, it's all the same people, or exact replicas of them. A minute after I said that, a guy walked up to Becky and asked her where he knew her from. They had never met before, and the timing couldn't have been better. I spent a little time redecorating. I built a little framework out of driftwood over my desk area, and hung a coupl gourds, a glass fishingnet float and an old scale from the wood, and draped a Nightwish cloth banner over the top. It looks pretty cool. I finally got off my ass and framed the two prints I bought at FC, as well as the very first piece of furry art I've ever bought, back in 1995, Terrie Smith's Weasel medicine shield. My first furry art purchase was a weasel. Weasel! Logic, the high-end music composition and recording software I've bought, has continued to confound me. It's been weeks of me poking at it and still, no sound. Their tech support has proven very difficult to hear anything from as well. Books. I've been reading real, actual books again. The sort where you can't use a search function, nor scroll through. It's been a strange change. Mostly history and archaeology books; history of Viking raids, lost cities, medieval engineering. I've been amazingly moody these last couple days, too, in a rather explosive way. I don't remember what it was that set me off, but I walked out of my math class after the test and sat in the forest for most of the rest of the day. It was raining lightly, which oddly made it more pleasant to be outside. I found a chasm with a small river into which a lot of eucalyptice trees had fallen. It was pretty nice. I think I've been spending too much time indoors lately. One of my fish has disappared. I fear it has died. It's unfortunate, cos I really liked that particular one. I never even had any idea what sort it was, but from what I could tell, it needed a much larger aquarium than I have. It wouldn't eat any of the food I put in, but prefered to eat something off the rocks.. I never did quite figure out what. I have this other really cool fish in my other aquarium that looks like a flattened, elongated gumdrop. Its behaviour reminds me of a cross between a weasel and a parking lot bird. It doesn't really swim, more moves in little hopping motions and braces itself against things with its fins. It mostly hides in the crevices of one particular coral, but when it sees food, it shoots out and grabs it, thrashs it around, drags it back to its hiding place and ravages it. If anyone is feeling particularly geographicaly geeky, I've joined the group here called geogoraphytrivia. Fun! Ever find a song you really like, and have no idea why? By all your standards, it's exactly NOT what you would enjoy listening to?
I've noticed I have two-
'Don't Kill the Whale' by Yes and 'This is Love' by Tony Banks
Both musically simple, rather shallow lyrics, no particularly dynamic playing. I don't get it.
I also, funnily enough, received a holiday card yesterday. It must have gotten swallowed in the mail or something. |
