Purdue University has accepted an invitation to play in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, where the Boilermakers will face the Washington Huskies for a rematch from the 2001 Rose Bowl. This is Purdue's sixth-consecutive bowl appearance under sixth-year coach Joe Tiller. The Boilermakers finished the season with three wins in four games in a surge of strength that persuaded Sun Bowl officials to select Purdue over other Big Ten teams that qualified to play in El Paso. The Sun Bowl matches the No. 5 Big Ten team against the No. 3 PAC-10 team. This marks the Boilermakers' second consecutive Sun Bowl appearance. In 2001 Purdue suffered a narrow defeat in the New Year's Eve bowl, losing 33-27 to the 13th-ranked Washington State Cougars. As the Purdue football team's 2002 adventure continues, return to this Web site for the information you need to plan for the team's trip to the Sun Bowl, or call the Boilermaker Bowl Hotline at 496-6300 (local), (800) 927-4177 (toll free).
