Al Gore, We Need You!
| Dear Al Gore, We, your most loyal supporters, were devastated by your decision not to run for President in 2004. We believe - as you do - that you were the true winner in 2000. We believe - as you do - that the Bush campaign, the Republican Party, and five partisan Republican Supreme Court Justices stole the election. We believe - as you do - that you would have been an infinitely better President of the We fervently hoped you would run in 2004 to win what was rightfully yours - the Presidency of the Of course, we certainly understand the hostility you faced from the corporate media, which despises you (and all true Democrats) because you are not a slave to the powerful corporations that want to rule the world through political oppression, environmental destruction, and war. We also understand the hostility you faced from the "leadership" of the Democratic Party, which is brainwashed by the same Democrat-hating corporate media. And we are glad you are finding inner peace as an ordinary citizen, free from the tremendous pressures of being a candidate for President in the face of such hostility. But we simply cannot accept your abandoning politics, especially now - when American Democracy - and the future of our planet - face such grave and unprecedented danger. Frankly, we believe the Republican Party of George W. Bush has crossed the line that separates merely wretched from evil. It is comprised of individuals who will do anything for power, without any feelings of guilt or remorse. They will steal the Presidency... lie to us daily... conspire with energy companies and other huge corporations to steal our wealth... destroy and conquer nations whose oil they covet... encourage terrorism by turning the entire world against us... shred international treaties, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights if these precious documents stand in their way... and fill their bank accounts with corporate payoffs as the planet is destroyed. The Republican Party must be stopped. George W. Bush must be defeated, along with the Republicans in Congress. We must restore Truth, Justice, and the You are our greatest hope for change. You are the man who received 51 million votes, the second largest number in our history. You are the man who presented a vision for the future full of hope, not of fear. You are the man who knows better than anyone the enormously powerful forces we are up against. Some of us support a "Draft Gore" movement to try to persuade you to change your mind and run in 2004. Certainly we hope you will consider this possibility in the coming months, if the field of Democratic contenders does not catch fire with the American people who elected you in 2000. But if your decision is firm, we call upon you to help us fight for a better future. We call upon you to remain fully engaged in our political system, and to take a leadership role in a massive grassroots movement for change that we are trying to organize at Democrats.com and with our progressive allies across the Internet - your world-changing creation. We are behind you - and we urge you to work closely with us to lead the nation and the world towards a better future. |
