You know those competitions where all the bartenders get together to test their skills? I think there needs to be one for those of use in the retail world. I was thinking of one where you get to put together racks or cardboard promotional displays. You have to do it without instructions too. Now *there* is a competition I could excell in. :) Yes, that was my night tonight - putting together our new metal dump bins relying only on my expertise. Who needs instructions anyway? Had 2 of them together in 45 minutes and it would have been faster had I not had to stop for those annoying customer interludes. *g* All in all, I actually accomplished a lot of stuff tonight. My store looks purdy - I should have taken pictures! It doesn't look quite so perfect that often, despite my best efforts. Now...where's my raise? HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! Hope everyone has a brilliant day celebrating the country's 136th birthday. *I* on the other hand will be working. If I weren't, I'd likely be in Toronto seeing Jian and friends at Harbourfront. Maybe I'll just order food and veg in front of tv celebrations tonight. I just want it to be the weekend already so I can go hang out at Tudhope Park for Mariposa. It's got to be the loveliest spot for a folk fest around. Can't wait to see Wendell Ferguson and Katherine Wheatley again! Katherine is a highly cool and very interesting woman. I mean, how many geologists turned folk singers do you know? :) Current Mood: restlessCurrent Music: CBC Radio in the background |

On the heels of Gregory Peck's death, comes Katherine Hepburn's. I can hardly believe Katherine was 92. She was my all-time favourite actress and a woman I looked up to immensely when I was growing up. Fierce, opinionated, strong, intelligent - she always dressed for her own comfort in a glamourous age of Hollywood and yet always managed to look glamourous. She put strong and independant characters on the screen long before the feminist movement. The world has lost some amazing talent this year and it's only June. *sigh* Current Mood: sadCurrent Music: CBC radio in the background |

*sigh* I'm feeing rather bored this weekend. It's probably partially due to the fact that it's been raining and I'm feeling a little trapped. Plus apparently ever single musician I know suddenly got a life or something - whatever they are up to, they aren't responding to their email darnit. Don't they know that I'm in need of entertainment?? Plus, I just found out that Norg was in Toronto last night. Had I known this little fact, I would have hopped on the first available bus!! I was sitting home, bored like a loser with nothing to do and all the while I could have been visiting with the nutty left-coaster instead. *sniff* I need a better class of friends apparently. ;) What I need to work on now, is getting my genealogy stuff in order by the end of July. With a little luck and some planning, I have hopes of visiting the archives while I'm in Toronto for the blues fest and tracking down my errant great-grandfather. My entire family is useless as a source of information so I'm going to have to do it the hard way. Goddess forbid something should be easy. :) Current Mood: lonelyCurrent Music: Mitzi's - Luke Doucet |

I was contemplating a walk to the grocery store but it's suddenly gotten really dark and I hear thunder. I'm thinking that's not a great idea now. Maybe I'd better think about food in case the power decides to go out.
Man, this town can be so boring sometimes. And I don't get paid enough to go out of town every weekend - if I *did* I'd be up in Bala seeing Danny with Sam Roberts tonight.
Ack - lightning. I'd better shut down. Update more after the storm passes! |

I'm always in trouble when there's a great sale and it's payday. The Bata/Athlets's World in our mall had everything on 50% off so I not only bought a new pair of shoes - I bought 3. :) New pair of white sneakers, *really* nice pair of dark blue ones and a pair of taupe hikers. I've needed new shoes for months now but I seem to spend the majority of my cash on musician stalking. *g* Maybe my back and legs will stop being achy now. You can really tell it's summer when all the music and accessory reps come out of hibernation. There is now an official folk/celtic section in my store. After a great deal of nagging and numerous attempts at getting new signs, since they changed the store colours over, I finally got signage. My folk and singer/songwriter stuff is no longer in the easy listening section thankfully. Maybe I'll go for a walk now and break in my new shoes! :) Current Mood: satisfiedCurrent Music: Open - Bruce Cockburn |

Last night I *finally* remembered that Danny's ep of Music Works was being aired. Live Danny is always a good thing. Actually any Danny at all is always a good thing. :) His cds not gonna be out until Aug 18th now dammit. Can't wait to see what he's got planned when his spiffy new site goes up on Aug 8th. Maybe he'll put some of the acres of live pics I've given him online. That boy is just so darned photogenic you know. *g* Luke Doucet's been added to the Toronto blues fest lineup! Plus (according to True North's site), Blackie is playing Taste of the Danforth on the Sunday!! Hope that's not going to clash with anyone at Festival of Friends. All I know for sure about FoF thus far is that Luther Wright and the Wrongs are playing it. Current Mood: giddyCurrent Music: That Girl Has Love - Rooney (in my head) |

I can get behind anything So, he is a loveable nut who I can't wait to see with those other two wackos he plays with in July. :) Musicians and email can be a dangerous thing.... Only 48 days til Danny's new cd!!! :-D Not that I'm excited about that or anything. Nope, not me. Yay for season one DVD of Made in Canada that I watched tonight. How much do I *love* Rick Mercer! stolen from cinamin ( I'm going to Liverpool to discover the Beatles )Hey, if anyone wants to steal from my store, apparently it's *really* easy to do. Just wait til my part-timers are talking to their friends and then fell free to walk off with whatever catches your fancy. *sigh* I found a security tag in the DVD bins last night and another one this morning so I printed off a report and did a count. We have a grand total of 9 missing DVDs. Not a lot? 8 of those are boxed sets price at over $100 a piece. I'm so not impressed. Heads will roll.... So....the Arrogant Worms show on Sunday was insanely fun. Lots of singing and clapping. Trying to get Trevor's shirt off and yelling of "We Like Toast!" I'm sure it'll all make sense when the cd comes out. :) And because double_j inquired.... ( the set list with assumed titles :) )Oh! And while I was browsing the indie rack at Sam's on sunday, I got spotted by go_bob :) We did musician gossip for a bit before she went off to gather people up and head to the airport and I went to get my blues fest tix and head for Hugh's Room. Realy makes me wish that Blackie was doing Hillside though...tempted to go but I really *must* see those nutty guitar geeks. Typical of Fearing to pick the year that I blow off FRFF to not be playing his hometown fest. Btw - the new Blackie cd is fuckin' awesome!! To put it mildly. Naturally I set Gearing an email tonight to tell him I gave it a spin and to inquire about some stuff I noticed in it. So nice to see the finished product after such a long wait! Aaaaannnnd - Tory told me that the date of the Tom Waits tribute has now been moved to July 14th. Still at the El Mo and the lineup is shaping up to be amazing! He claims he's going to email me the details but I won't be holding my breath on that little promise. Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: If I Catch You Crying-Blackie & the Rodeo Kings (in my head) |

So...The Worms new material rocks. :) Perhaps I'll post the set list (some titles I know and some are assumed) when I'm actually home at my own 'puter. If y'all are interested that is. Wouldn't have minded sticking around a bit after the show to say hi to Wendell (sitting in on guitar with the band) and missed the opportunity to speak with Mike but everyone wanted to catch the subway so I left with 'em. C'est la vie. I'll catch Wendell at Mariposa when I have the leisure to chat with him. Who knows when I'll see the Worms again - maybe they'll play another TO gig at some point when I can catch 'em. I think this qualifies as the first whole Worms show I've seen. Thus far I've only seen them in pieces at festivals - highly fun. :)

OMG! How much fun was last night??? GBS with Mur was awesome - lots of dancing and bouncing around. Murray seems like he's having a hell of a lot of fun being back on an actual stage again. Unlike the some other people that we went to the show with *I* wore my 'Way to Go Murray' shirt and had a good amount of attention from both Murray and Alan. Something tells me they were amused. Mur might be hearing about this for a while. :) Murray did a verse in Scolding Wife and Alan was doing gestures the whole way through the song - it was so much fun! After the show and wandering aimlessly around on foot trying to find our way out of the damn place, I went to see Tory for a bit. Had a chat with the major cutie taking covers at the door about the tshirt and then wandered over to within trumpetboy's line of sight. The band was on the last song of the second set so when they took a break, Tory made his way over after being sidetracked by people a couple of times. While he was talking to one of them, he noticed what the shirt said and started grinning. He came over and asked me about it and I told him where I'd been. Tory asked, "Did you actually wear that to the show?" When I said yes, he grinned again and said it was cool. I can't wait to find out if Mur says anything about it and how much the GBS guys make fun of him for his 'fan section' :-D Today I just had a leisurely brunch and wandered Yonge Street listening to The Supers and drinking a nice cold Cookies 'n' Creme delato from Second Cup. Yummy. :) Now I have to find another place to buy my blues fest tix though 'cause I just found out Ticketmasker outlets are closed on Sunday *sigh* Current Mood: geekyCurrent Music: Secret - The Supers |

*sniffle* How sad is it that tonight was the very last show of Made in Canada. :( It was an *awesome* episode though. Rick Mercer is definitely on the list of men I want to marry...or something. *g* I'm going through musician-email withdrawl. Not Good. ;) At least I get live musicians over the course of the weekend though. But I'm really gonna need a Supers/Starling/Danny show soon. At least I get Danny's rerun of Music Works next Thursday - beggers can't be choosers. Less than 2 months til the cd release!! And the new Blackie comes out on Tuesday (of course I get to hear the thing Monday though). I'm sure I'll be emailing Gearing that night. :) Oh! Dar's playing the Phoenix on Aug. 20th! Don't think I can make a Wed night show but I'm gonna look into it. Current Mood: bouncyCurrent Music: Duncan - Sarah Slean |

Yeah, I know I said I was gonna hold off on ordering the new Veal cd...I just have no willpower. ;) I also picked up Tilt o'Whirl today along with the Carnations EP and the first DVD of Made in Canada (which I'm gonna start watching later tonight! Going to burn copies of the new cds for bus listening on the way to TO this weekend 'cause my copies *never* leave the house anymore. I must update the cd listing too. Have to also add the free copy of Forty Foot Echo's cd that I got from the rep... Also need the new Wade Davis book that I just found out about yesterday. Came out a few months back - I'm so out of the loop. *sigh* I don't even know what this one's about yet. Guess it gets to be a surprise. All I know is that it's called Light at the End of the World and that it's probably as brilliant and fascinating as everthing else he writes. :) Current Mood: excitedCurrent Music: Sorry Sorry - Rooney (in my head) |

What the hell... ( *Jumps on bandwagon* )I actually ran out of stuff to do tonight at about 8pm. I *never* run out of stuff to do at work. But tonight absolutely everything I could possible do, is done! The store's all organized and tidy. I can even see the floor in my backroom again now that I've reorganized all the shelving back there. I do have some shrink wrapping to do yet but that has to wait til friday night when I have a helper 'cause I have to do that in the back. Had a teen in tonight looking for a song called I Wanna F&%@ You Like an Animal. Oh, now *there's* artistry at work. :P Btw - Ralph Klein is a jerk. Don't forget me when I'm gone omg - Michael Hanson (ex-Glass Tiger drummer) now has a career making customized wedding songs?!?! His website is here. Heard the feature on DNTO saturday - he *really* should have someone else sing them though. I think I've still got all my stuff from when I was in the Glass Tiger fan club around here somewhere - including the pic of me with Wayne Parker (bass player) who I had a *huge* thing for back in the day. It was at a video game con thingy and it took me 3 hours to get the nerve to speak to him. Hey, I was 17. ;) I just wanna curl up in a ball and die currently. I'm all achy from cleaning and reorganizing the back room today. Plus, my allergies are out in full force. :( Current Mood: exhaustedCurrent Music: Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone - Glass Tiger (from DNTO show) |

I've got the pink slip daddy I was so happy tonight! New Beach Boys greatest hits cd coming out tomorrow - guess what I listened to all night? :-) The only problem being the customers that kept interrupting my singing and dancing around the store. Heehee. Next week is the album I'm so psyched for! The new Blackie and the Rodeo Kings disc!! That baby will be out of it's plastic the minute it sees the light of day. :) Gimme, gimme! Saturday is Mur with GBS! Saburah just volunteered to make the "Way to go Murray" shirts since I haven't found time (though Drea's too chicken to wear one to the show). I think it'll be freakin' hilarious. Next Thurs (June 29th) is once again a rerun of Danny's appearance on Music Works that I keep managing to miss. Not this time. I've got sticky notes everywhere just so I don't forget. *g* Now this tired puppy is taking herself to bed - tomorrow's release day and I need sleep to deal with people.
