Victoria unveils anti-terrorism laws

The Victorian government has unveiled its new anti-terrorism bill. The proposal would allow for secret search warrants, amongst other things.

ANTI-terror laws introduced in the Victorian Parliament would give covert search powers to police and allow them to quarantine victims of a chemical, biological or nuclear attack. The laws, announced during last November's Victorian election campaign, are the first of their type in Australia.

Covert search warrants would be available to police with the approval of the chief commissioner of police and a judge or magistrate.
