What Fun! Costuming projects. cross posted in my costuming journal, tuathadedanaans. Figured I'd share some photos from a few current projects since several people requested it. I would have posted them sooner but my computer got a nasty virus that knocked it out for a good month. =( My current project (which you can see in my costuming journal, tuathadedanaans) is a 1901 s-curve corset. Pain to fit and it is easily the hardest corset I've constructed yet. My next project is to create wings for the corset and create a ribbon corset. I must be a masochist for enjoying creating these corsets. =/ ( The fun addiction of costuming, kinda Rococo, kinda Tudor and kinda Medieval ;) ) Current Mood: accomplished | 1:24 am [hex_kitten]

I have started a group called victorianera for those interested in historical corsets, Victorian gothic and the periods of time between Regency and Edwardian. I bend towards Morbid Victoriana, but I don't want to limit the group to goth minded types, so everyone is welcome. | Tuesday, August 19th, 2003 | 12:01 am [smoofy]

Maternity pattern help (xpost) I want to make a nice dress or two for myself for the latter stages of my pregnancy, and was pretty unenthused about the ones available from JoAnn's. They seemed to come in two basic styles: tent or mu-mu.
Do any of you have any recommendations for where I could look to find a pattern for something that actually still manages to have a bit of shape, even though the waistline is now bigger than the bust?
Thanks!

fluffing up crushed velvet hello,
a while ago i made a cloak out of velvet. my cat decided to make a bed of it, and now there are a few spots (smaller than a dime) that are crushed. is it possible to fluff it back up? it looks awful when it catches the light.

Sorry to bother you all, but awhile back, a link was posted to an extremely cheap site that sold fishnets and tights in all different colors. I looked back for it, but couldn't locate it... does anyone happen to know it offhand? Thanks a ton. | Friday, August 8th, 2003 | 10:34 pm [britgeekgrrl]

Big fat thanks are owed to the listie who fwd'd on the information about the Vintage Pattern Lending Library needing some volunteer help. I spoke with 'em today, and I'm going to be volunteering time for them - in return for massive learning opportunities - for as long as they're willing to put up with me. I've been gleeful all day and my cup runneth over. So, thanks for sharing! Current Mood: giddy | Monday, August 4th, 2003 | 12:20 am [lutine]

Perhaps some of you have noticed that I haven't been on any of my communities lately, as in, the last two months or so. This is because I moved in with my dad and we probably won't have internet for another month or so. I'm very sorry for leaving without any notice, but it was sort of a spur-of-the-moment thing. I assure you, the moment I get steady 'net access, I will become active again. Thanks for understanding.

Looking for. . . Are there any online sites that are selling striped stretchy fabric. 4-way knits preferably, but anything at this point. I want to make thick tights so it has to be mighty stretchy. I am going for a pippi longstocking gone naughty look if that helps. I have looked at Spandex House, but no stripes. Sigh. | Friday, August 1st, 2003 | 2:53 am [_bloodfairy]

PVC at Joanns Yep. The real stuff - not vinyl. I didn't give it too much of a look because I have pvc at home, but my cursory inspection showed it to be four-way stretch pvc. It looked like the backing was lycra. I think they only had black, but it was nice and glossy. Unfortunately, I forgot to check the price. I found it with the Halloween fabric.
I hope this information (sketchy though it may be) helps someone, | Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003 | 7:49 am [rengal]

vintage bathing suit project ...advice, thoughts? Greetings, all. :) I would like to make myself a vintage bathing suit. I need some brainstorming help. Now, I don't go swimming too often, but when I do I need something for those times when swimming nude is not an option. My tastes tend to go toward the historically inspired, so I thought making a vintage bathing suit would be the way to go. I put up some pictures at http://www.geocities.com/gothicfelicity/bathing.htmlThoughts on construction? best practical choices? where to get patterns? I need to be able to go in and out of the water (and not just to the knees) so thoughts on fabric choice would also be appreciated. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance. :) Current Mood: hopeful | 8:41 am [milkypop]

PVC! Vinyl! WHERE?!?! Hi! I'm new here, and I don't know if this question has been asked before but I'm desperate!
Is there ANYWHERE online that sells pvc? vinyl? heavy duty fake leather? Especially in pretty, crazy colors. I've had no luck, even on ebay.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! | Sunday, July 20th, 2003 | 3:31 pm [forestcats]

1901 Corset Question. Does anyone know of a decent 1901 corset pattern (The straight fronted Edwardian Corset that creates that beautiful s-curve)? I stopped by Alter Years today and naturally, they didn't have the ONE pattern that I've found. So far all I've found is Past Patterns. I do have a book that has the pattern in it but I've never scaled patterns up. I also need a multi sized pattern and I'm not the most skilled at grading (in fact I'm wretched at it). This project is for a Costume Cutting Class and the teacher needs a pattern/patterns that'll suit all of the students figures, from a 36" bust to a 46" bust. I've been asked to help teach the corset protion of the class (yikes!) and it's up to me to find a decent pattern for the students to work off of. I know this is one of the most difficult corsets to construct as is, last thing we need is a lousy pattern that has numerious drafting problems. Thanks if anyone can give any input!!! I need this pattern in under two weeks. So if I'm going to need to order it I'd better do it soon. Current Mood: intimidated | Monday, July 14th, 2003 | 12:59 am [avant_gauche]
