2:34 a - oh so LATER!
so after the jury, jen and i went and tried a chinese place we hadn't tried before, Hunan Express.. which is also chinese drivethru. how awesome. so we had us some dinna.

then "to work" at the media center [both of us were scheduled] which meant seriously sitting around chatting with matt, kim, and craig while kim/craig copied some CDs. for two hours. :DD jen and i relaced our boots different ways.

thennn we went to walmart to see if we could make jen's hair BLOND. i got a bag-let of no-choogar choco things, agua, HOTT RED LIPSTICK cos whee :DDD, and sample sizes of herbal essences [pink bottle] shampoo/conditioner. this i love because it is my relax-shampoo; when i was stressed during shows in hs i'd just go wash my hair in the paint closet, cos laura/tanya left huge bottles of herbal essences in there.

and jen's hair turned strawberry blond, which is blonder than it was.

so a couple hours later we went BACK to walmart and bought a highlighting kit for her hair. and a lipgloss for me that i'd resisted earlier, but i think it is my new favorite. [clear, smooth/glossy but not sticky, strawberry-tangerine scented (that wears off), but not really flavored. also full of vitamins A, C, D, &E.; w00t.]
i just spent the last hour pulling her hair through holes in a cap with an ickle crochet hook, because i am a Devoted Roommate. :D so i think she is rinsing the highlights now. gotta say, SO GLAD i took my contact out earlier. o_O_O_O cos that would've been OW.

surprising amounts of fun. :]

i'd just like to say that i'm currently.. disappointed? disgusted? with my brother's behavior.

not by whom he's hanging out with near-daily, but with the fact that he saw fit to filter myself, matt, and probably stephanie out of posts concerning her. didn't want to deal with any possible disapproval? just because we'd probably give you shit, you suddenly go clandestine? great, scott. that sure is the way family works.

i could care less if you're dating her. not dating her. doesn't matter to me. the circumstance is less meritorious of censure now than it was a year ago.

what i find deplorable is that you felt the need to try and keep it a secret.

  • first chick: good, but not as good as the last two.
  • first guy: no.
  • amy: okay, but i didn't think she was as good as i'd heard her. obvious changes between chest/head register. ;P
  • jon's rendition of tiny dancer.. i did like it. he's endearing.
  • charly: [GOD I HATE HER ACCENT] but she's really cute. decent song.
  • giant hawaiian guy: smooth voice. placid and unimpressive. also, just. no.
  • seventeen year old girl: surprisingly uncrappy. low register = really good. [except GOOD LORD why the weird leggings under dress?!]
  • latoya: niiiiiice. [kinda uncontrollable vibrato toward the end, but oh well. goooood.]

GAH I WANT TO BE BLACK SO I CAN SING BETTER. seriously, all the black girls are amazing this season [thus far.]

2:40 p - PSA for iBook users [but mostly pleased for ME]
    http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/

starting 28jan04, Apple is implementing the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program for iBooks manufactured between may02 and april03 [within a certain range of serial numbers.]

there have been LOTS of problems with faulty data display cable connections, necessitating a replacement logic board, which runs ~$300 [when it's a component failure -- more like $700 if it was user error/abuse.]

i had to replace my logic board. my brotherinlaw had to replace his. and Apple is reimbursing for people who had to pay for repair on these specific machines, as well as extending care on them to three years from original purchase date, which has me covered through july of 2005. sweet. also, nice surprise for mom [who decided SHE'D pay for the repair?!], she gets $300 back.

-- many thanks to [info]weeping_angel for the heads up.

in light of recent events, i submit:

    The Monroe Doctrine.

i understand international circumstances have shifted in two hundred years, but.

    but.

Our policy [...] nevertheless remains the same, which is, not to interfere in the internal concerns of any of its powers; to consider the government de facto as the legitimate government for us; to cultivate friendly relations with it, and to preserve those relations by a frank, firm, and manly policy, meeting in all instances the just claims of every power, submitting to injuries from none.

It is still the true policy of the United States to leave the parties to themselves, in hope that other powers will pursue the same course. . . .

some policing efforts make sense, but.. first strike? where did the moral high ground go?

let me just say, best MadLibs phrase ever:

    WIGGLY SPACE DROMEDARY.

    "[...] ADJECTIVE space VEHICLE."

and of course, i decided dromedaries counted as vehicles.. little did i know just how excellent SPACE MADLIBS would be. man, chris and i are awesome.

"scandalous space wagon" or "effervescent space trolley" would just not have had the same effect.

[that was how we spent part of at least one evening in key west. because we are dorks. but madlibs is so worth it. and i come up with such good words! me!! :D also he is not too shabby. but wiggly space dromedary was the winner. traveling the universe in style.]

    3:52 p - ed? matt? anybody?
in history of western music, we were listening to pre-Charlemagne-standardizing-to-Gregorian chant -- specifically, Ambrosian and Byzantine. these were both performed by women. when i asked about this, Dr. Phipps spoke of the Merovingian kings still allowing women importance in the Church and celebrations therein -- went on a brief tangent about how they believed that Christ was married, and that his wife was the Holy Grail, and the like.
[and the later(?) development of the Marian sect.. ]

i must say, i find the idea fascinating, and thus the Merovingians pique my interest.

can anyone tell me anything about them, before i start hunting around for information on my own? [i have to run to choir.]
