Went to see Los Straitjackets and the World Famous Pontani Sisters' holiday pageant with Sir Caleb.
It was spectacular. I have to be up in 4 hours. Rock and roll.

6:57 pm - Has anyone else seen these?
|
I picked these three DVDs up at work yesterday and have been captivated by them all day. It is my official opinion that Michel Gondry is a genius. Man. Cibo Matto's "Sugar Water"? The Chemical Brothers "Let Forever Be"? Just brilliant. Also Chris Cunningham's video for "Only You" is haunting and gorgeous. I just can't say enough good things about these collections. Go buy them!

Oh man...has anyone seen the "Step Into My Office, Baby" video? That is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Speaking of Belle and Sebastian, Thursday night at the Orpheum in Boston was spectacular. Even didn't mind Rasputina as an opener. It was so exciting I could've cried. They closed with "Sleep the Clock Around" and encored with "The Boy with the Arab Strap" and "Judy...", and "Roy Walker" was so great, and they cracked Red Sox jokes, and the lighting scheme was astounding, and they were just the best.
It's been awhile since I've posted. My life has been kind of weird, good, but weird, lately. More on that later, perhaps.
xoxo

11:39 pm - "The Yankees are an Evil Organization..."
|
It's odd how emotional people get over sports. Listening to the screaming matches and heated discussions of Game 3 on talk radio today, it amazes me that people have that kind of energy to expend on something that has so little consequence on their own personal lives. The host of the show, John DePetro, actually called the Yankees an "evil organization" several times. Then again, perhaps things like the home team winning really do effect our day to day lives. It's certainly managed to wend it's way into my life as of late.
It's astounding to me how quickly and thoroughly I've gotten engrossed in this ALCS. I have never been a sports fan, but in watching these games I've gotten so wrapped up in everyone else's excitement it's become my own. What a strange duality, to be both confounded at people's reactions to a game, and to respond myself with such nearly involuntary fervor.
Giddiness abounds. Go Sox!
(I figured since this post is about freaking baseball, I ought to at least make it sound as intelligent as possible...c)

Grandaddy last night for six freaking bucks! It was excellent. Their records don't do Jason Lytle's voice any justice. They had all kinds of wacky stage props, and a video screen with neat things playing, and so much cool equipment it kind of made me hot. One of their videos was of these little girls dressed up like the band, beards and all, playing their instruments. It was rad. And they played "A.M. 180" (so freaking fun), and "Hewlett's Daughter", and "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot", and "Chartsengrafs". I still think "Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake" sounds just like the skit from Saturday Night Live that Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan, Chris Kattan, and Horatio Sanz used to do at holiday time, with the keyboard and the head turning.
Stacey and I are wicked hot and got hit on by some random guy who followed us around all night. Also, after the show when we were walking to the car, this guy comes up to me and says "I've been staring at you all night and well, here..." and hands me a CD and then runs away. It was actually rather sweet. Anyway, the CD is pretty good, he's even got Bill Doss from Olivia Tremor Control guesting.
Suffice to say, this occurrence, in addition to getting hit on by the other random guy, sent us into fits of giggles. I'm not hot enough for my crush sadly, who's girl was at the show. She's a twig. Ah well, I needed a reason to get over that anyway.
We went to Spike's afterwards and ate meat, thank god! All my other friends are vegetarians these days.
It was lots of fun. Hooray for cheap shows and awesome friends. Radiohead next, scary.

12:28 pm - What kind of Santa spends his time pretending to kick people before stuffing them into a canvas sack?
|
We went to see David Sedaris on Weds. night at RIC. He was so great, small and funny and strange and soft spoken and sweet. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe and tears were streaming down my face. If you've never read 6 to 8 Black Men before, I suggest you go here now and do so. It was easily his funniest piece of the night.
Afterwards he stuck around to sign everyone's books and get people to register to vote. Jes, Mike, myself, and my friend Stacey from work all waited in line about an hour and apparently were his only new voters (I think the other three had never been registered, I was formerly registered in MA.) Mike went first, David signed his book "My first new voter" or some such thing. Next went Jes, who had a card for him. He chatted them up about their recent marriage, and when he went to write "Thanks for the card" in Jes's book he wound up writing "Thanks for getting married". Man, so great. I was next, he signed mine "Live free or die", then realized that was the wrong state and laughed at himself. Stacey got her book signed next, "Vote for love". He was super nice and indulged us all in picture taking. David Sedaris, you are the coolest.
Yesterday I spent far too long at the mall but found myself a very nice new winter coat. Next week is new Belle and Sebastian, new Michael Moore, and freaking Radiohead at Madison Square Garden with Abe. Amazing.

12:37 am - hi folks...
|
Well, it's been a while since I posted any news of my actual life I guess. Things have been up and down and all over the place, but have been looking up the past week.
Game night, as I've mentioned, was a huge success. Spent the weekend with my Mum and we went horseback riding, it was very nice except my horse kept wanted to rush ahead of everyone else....eek. Finally found some neato boots and happened upon a wicked cute dress on sale. Also got myself some decent tickets for Belle and Sebastian in November, yay! I have developed one hell of a crush on the bestest boy, but he has a girlfriend....::sigh:: However, he is very adamant about coming to our next game night, so again, yay!
We went to see Lost in Translation on Friday night. It was....wow....astoundingly gorgeous (although I think my roommate would have some other things to say about it if she were pressed....bah.) I loved it. I love Sophia's atmosphere. She's so great. And Bill Murray was so so spectacular. His rendition of "More Than This" got a huge laugh but it just made me well up. I'm terrible at talking about movies that affect me emotionally, because I'm terrible at putting my emotions into words, so you'll have to forgive me....but it was just lovely.
Speaking of emotional movies, I watched Hedwig tonight for the first time in a long time. I'd forgotten how much I love it. I need to be Hedwig one of these Halloweens. Too late for this year, maybe next....
Also, working on improving my grammar, less ellipses, more capitalization. We'll see how long it lasts.
Well, I guess that's all for now. Love you guys!
