INSIDE THIS MONTH
This February, our focus is photography. We survey the burgeoning field of Chinese photography, which is attracting international attention. We name the world’s Top 25 Photo Collectors. We profile Rineke Dijkstra, the Dutch photographer who takes powerful portraits of soldiers, immigrants, and others, sometimes over a period of several years. And we talk to Edward Burtynsky, the Toronto photographer who showcases the effects of industry on nature. Also, in a special feature, we chronicle the efforts of the Rembrandt Research Project in Amsterdam to produce a catalogue raisonné of the master’s paintings—and explain how perceptions of Rembrandt’s style have changed over the last three decades.

WHAT'S NEXT
In March, we feature a special section on the art market. We look at what goes into producing the evening sales at the major auction houses and the glamour and glitches behind the million-dollar purchases. We profile young collectors in their 20s and 30s, who are starting to bid seriously on many major works. We talk to insurers, adjusters, and appraisers who share tales of mysterious circumstances surrounding insurance claims related to artwork. We survey major museums across the country for their newest acquisitions. Also, we profile painter Alex Katz, who has been experiencing an explosion of interest in his work. And we investigate the uncharacteristically contentious world of Goya scholarship.
